A facile thermal evaporation route for large-area synthesis of tin oxide nanowires: Characterizations and their use for liquid petroleum gas sensor

        Nguyen Van Hieu,Le Thi Ngoc Loan,Nguyen Duc Khoang,Nguyen Tuan Minh,Do Thanh Viet,Do Cong Minh,Tran Trung,Nguyen Duc Chien 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.2

In this paper, a very simple procedure was presented for the reproducible synthesis of large-area SnO2nanowires (NWs) on a silicon substrate by evaporating Sn powders at temperatures of 700, 750, and 800 ℃. As-obtained SnO2 NWs were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM),transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy. They revealed that the morphology of the NWs is affected by growth temperature and the SnO2 NWs are single-crystalline tetragonal. The band gap of the NWs is in the range of 4.2–4.3 eV as determined from UV/visible absorption. The NWs show stable photoluminescence with an emission peak centered at around 620 nm at room-temperature. The sensors fabricated from the SnO2 NWs synthesized at 700 ℃ exhibited good response to LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) at an operating temperature of 400 ℃.

      • Potential Impact of Graphic Health Warnings on Cigarette Packages in Reducing Cigarette Demand and Smoking-Related Deaths in Vietnam

Hoang, Van Minh,Le, Hong Chung,Kim, Bao Giang,Duong, Minh Duc,Nguyen, Duc Hinh,Vu, Quynh Mai,Nguyen, Manh Cuong,Pham, Duc Manh,Ha, Anh Duc,Yang, Jui-Chen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup1

Two years after implementation of the graphic health warning intervention in Vietnam, it is very important to evaluate the intervention's potential impact. The objective of this paper was to predict effects of graphic health warnings on cigarette packages, particularly in reducing cigarette demand and smoking-associated deaths in Vietnam. In this study, a discrete choice experiment (DCE) method was used to evaluate the potential impact of graphic tobacco health warnings on smoking demand. To predict the impact of GHWs on reducing premature deaths associated with smoking, we constructed different static models. We adapted the method developed by University of Toronto, Canada and found that GHWs had statistically significant impact on reducing cigarette demand (up to 10.1% through images of lung damage), resulting in an overall decrease of smoking prevalence in Vietnam. We also found that between 428,417- 646,098 premature deaths would be prevented as a result of the GHW intervention. The potential impact of the GHW labels on reducing premature smoking-associated deaths in Vietnam were shown to be stronger among lower socio-economic groups.

Evaluation of Logistics Infrastructure of Container Terminals in Northern Vietnam

Nguyen, Minh Duc,Kim, Sung-June,Jeong, Jung Sik Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research 2016 한국항해항만학회지 Vol.40 No.5

The sea-port in Northern Vietnam accounts for around one third of the total country's cargo throughput and for many decades has been playing an important role in the logistics system of the country. 11 container terminals currently operate in Northern Vietnam, concentrating in Haiphong city and Quang Ninh province. Despite the increasing demand, the competition among these container terminals has become increasingly more critical. In recent years, massive investments from both government and operators have been made to improve the capability of the local sea-port's logistics infrastructure. This critically needed comprehensive research evaluates the impact of the current logistics infrastructure condition on the competitiveness of terminals and quantitatively compares the competencies of these terminals. In order to meet such requirements, the paper first summarizes the indicators of the logistics infrastructures of the sea ports before developing and testing hypotheses to reveal the correlation between the given factors and the annual throughput of container terminals in the region. Factor analysis will then be applied to score the logistics infrastructure competency of each container terminal. A significant gap between logistics infrastructures among all container terminals was not observed and the competitiveness between container terminals is mostly driven by traditional activities including cargo handling and storage. According to the results, strategic thinking will be needed to contribute to related organizations for better decisions in investment, management, and operation.

      • Influence of donor moiety in ruthenium sensitizers on the properties of dye-sensitized solar cells.

        Nguyen, Hong-Minh,Choi, Jongwan,Heo, Ji Hyun,Oh, Jin-Woo,Nguyen, Duc-Nghia,Kim, Nakjoong American Scientific Publishers 2010 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.10 No.10

<P>Heteroleptic ruthenium complexes cis-[Ru(H2dcbpy)(L)(NCS)2], where H2dcbpy is 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine and L is 4-(4-(N,N-di-(p-hexyloxyphenyl)-amino)styryl)-4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine (Rut-A) or 4-(4'-(3,6-dihexyloxycarbazole-9-yl)-styryl)-4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine (Rut-B), have been synthesized and characterized by NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammogram. The effect of different electron donors on the properties of dye-sensitized solar cells has been studied. The power conversion efficiency of DSSC based on Rut-B is 6.1% while Rut-A delivered a lower efficiency of 4.52% under the same device fabrication and measuring conditions. The better photovoltaic performance of Rut-B is mainly associated with enhanced dye absorptivity and charge recombination suppression.</P>

Carbon-Nanotube Growth over Iron Nanoparticles Formed on CaCO3 Support by Using Hydrogen Reduction

Nguyen Duc Dung,Nguyen Van Chuc,Ngo Thi Thanh Tam,Nguyen Hong Quang,Phan Hong Khoi,Phan Ngoc Minh 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.5

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown by chemical vapor deposition on a mixture of iron salt and CaCO3. Salt mixtures of Fe(NO₃)₃9H₂O/CaCO₃ and FeCl₃6H₂O/CaCO₃ with various Fe weight contents were used as catalysts for growing the CNTs. A scanning electron microscope study revealed that the CNTs were densely grown on the Fe(NO₃)₃9H₂O/CaCO₃ catalyst containing 5 wt.% Fe. The effect of growth temperature on the segregation of Fe nanoparticles formed by hydrogen reduction is discussed. The result shows that 800 ℃ is the optimal temperature for the formation of Fe nanoparticles over which CNTs grow with the highest yield of 78.61 %. A raman spectroscope and a scanning transmission electron microscope were utilized to characterize the multiwall structure of the CNTs. The 92.16 % purity of the CNTs was determined by using thermal gravimetric analysis. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown by chemical vapor deposition on a mixture of iron salt and CaCO3. A Study on the Poverty of Mountain People Depending on Forests

NGUYEN, Phuong Thi Minh,NGUYEN, Song Van,DO, Duc Tai,NGUYEN, Quynh Thi Thuy,DINH, Thanh Trung,NGUYEN, Hang Phan Thu Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7

Livelihood capitals have a clear influence on livelihood development. As for the livelihood results, it has been pointed out in the analysis of the poor households that the ability of people to escape poverty depends especially on the access to livelihood capitals. This study aims to analyze the impacts of livelihood capital on poverty among mountain people who depend on forests through human capital, social capital, natural capital, physical capital and financial capital. This research employs the model of binary regression function. Independent variables x1, x2, …, xn are targets of livelihood strategy, vulnerability context, and livelihood capitals. These variables were selected to be included in the original model with dependent variable Y as poor and non-poor households. This study surveys households living in upland areas, near forests, and households of ethnic minorities. The results show that, out of the poor household rate, nearly 4% are newly-poor households or those falling back into poverty. Therefore, the government needs to pay more attention to this disadvantaged group and implements policies such as education and training policies, credit support policies, policies to support forest development, and payment for forest environmental services in the context of emerging countries like Vietnam.

Determinants of Human Resource Accounting Disclosures: Empirical Evidence from Vietnamese Listed Companies

Duc Hieu PHAM,Thi Huyen CHU,Thi Minh Giang NGUYEN,Thi Hong Lam NGUYEN,Thi Nhinh NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.7

This paper aims to analyze whether company characteristics are potential determinants of human resource accounting (HRA) disclosure practices by Vietnamese listed companies. It examines the human resource disclosure level of 204 companies by content analysis of these companies’ annual reports. The study has relied on a multiple linear regression to test the association between a number of corporate attributes and the extent of human resource disclosure in companies’ annual reports. The extent of human resource disclosure was measured using unweighted human resource disclosure index. The explanatory variables considered in this study were firm size, firm age, profitability, leverage, industry profile, and auditor type. The results revealed that the most influential variable for explaining firms’ variation in human resource disclosure is firm size followed by firm age and profitability. Thus, it can be concluded that firm size, firm age and profitability are major predictors that may affect the variety of HRA disclosure practices on firms listed in the Vietnam Stock Exchange. However, neither industry profile nor auditor type seems to explain differences in human resource disclosure practices between Vietnamese listed firms, indicating that company’s industry profile and auditor type are not a matter for the company to disclose HRA information.

Hierarchical Cluster Analysis on Competitiveness of Container Terminals in Northern Vietnam

Nguyen, Minh-Duc,Kim, Sung-June,Jeong, Jung-Sik Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research 2016 한국항해항만학회지 Vol.40 No.2

Vietnam's sea-port industry has experienced a significant development in recent years. Especially in Northern Vietnam, both the demand and supply of handling services for containerized cargoes have increased at a considerable rates. Accompany with such movement, the competition among container terminals in the area becomes fiercer. In this paper, Hierarchical Cluster Analysis is employed to classify all 11 container terminals in Northern Vietnam by collecting data concerning terminal competitiveness. After the classification, each group will be discussed in order to reveal more details about their competitive characteristics. The paper consists of five sections. Section 1 is the general introduction. Section 2 provides a general literature review about competitiveness and factors to evaluate competitiveness. Section 3 explains variables and methodology applied to do the analysis. Section 4 presents the results with linkage to the current condition. Section 5 summarizes the analysis results. It is shown that container terminals in Northern Vietnam should not only pay attention to their service qualities but also have to find out an appropriate mechanism to avoid unhealthy competition. The paper is expected to contribute a background for further researches in container terminals' competition in the region as well as hints for operators in planning and making decisions.

Effective Application of Bicelles for Conformational Analysis of G Protein-Coupled Receptors by Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry

Duc, Nguyen Minh,Du, Yang,Thorsen, Thor S.,Lee, Su Youn,Zhang, Cheng,Kato, Hideaki,Kobilka, Brian K.,Chung, Ka Young Springer New York LLC 2015 Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrome Vol.26 No.5

<P>G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) have important roles in physiology and pathology, and 40% of drugs currently on the market target GPCRs for the treatment of various diseases. Because of their therapeutic importance, the structural mechanism of GPCR signaling is of great interest in the field of drug discovery. Hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) is a useful tool for analyzing ligand binding sites, the protein-protein interaction interface, and conformational changes of proteins. However, its application to GPCRs has been limited for various reasons, including the hydrophobic nature of GPCRs and the use of detergents in their preparation. In the present study, we tested the application of bicelles as a means of solubilizing GPCRs for HDX-MS studies. GPCRs (e.g., β2-adrenergic receptor [β2AR], μ-opioid receptor, and protease-activated receptor 1) solubilized in bicelles produced better sequence coverage (greater than 90%) than GPCRs solubilized in n-dodecyl-β-D-maltopyranoside (DDM), suggesting that bicelles are a more effective method of solubilization for HDX-MS studies. The HDX-MS profile of β2AR in bicelles showed that transmembrane domains (TMs) undergo lower deuterium uptake than intracellular or extracellular regions, which is consistent with the fact that the TMs are highly ordered and embedded in bicelles. The overall HDX-MS profiles of β2AR solubilized in bicelles and in DDM were similar except for intracellular loop 3. Interestingly, we detected EX1 kinetics, an important phenomenon in protein dynamics, at the C-terminus of TM6 in β2AR. In conclusion, we suggest the application of bicelles as a useful method for solubilizing GPCRs for conformational analysis by HDX-MS.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
