      • Effect of <i>Achyranthes bidentata</i> Blume on 3T3-L1 Adipogenesis and Rats Fed with a High-Fat Diet

        <P>The present study investigated the antiobesity effect of <I>Achyranthes bidentata</I> Blume root water extract in a 3T3-L1 adipocyte differentiation model and rats fed with a high-fat diet. To investigate the effect of <I>Achyranthes bidentata</I> Blume on adipogenesis <I>in vitro</I>, differentiating 3T3-L1 cells in adipocyte-induction media were treated every two days with <I>Achyranthes bidentata</I> Blume at various concentrations (1 to 25 <I><I>μ</I></I>g/mL) for eight days. We found that <I>Achyranthes bidentata</I> Blume root inhibited 3T3-L1 adipocyte differentiation without affecting cell viability, and Western blot analysis revealed that phospho-Akt expression was markedly decreased, whereas there was no significant change in perilipin expression. Furthermore, administration of <I>Achyranthes bidentata</I> Blume root (0.5 g/kg body weight for six weeks) to rats fed with a high-fat diet significantly reduced body weight gain without affecting food intake, and the level of triglyceride was significantly decreased when compared to those in rats fed with only a high-fat diet. These results suggest that <I>Achyranthes bidentata</I> Blume root water extract could have a beneficial effect on inhibition of adipogenesis and controlling body weight in rats fed with a high-fat diet.</P>

        Study on Consumer Exposure to Sun Spray and Sun Cream in South Korea

        When conducting risk assessments of cosmetic ingredients, it is important that reliable exposure information is obtained for cosmetic products. As cosmetics are becoming more diverse, continuous effort must be made to obtain exposure data that reflect their growth and usage trends. The usage pattern of cosmetics, such as the application area and amount used, may differ by product type and also by country. We conducted a survey to compare the amount of sun spray and sun cream used in a usage environment in South Korea. The study was conducted on Haeundae Beach, one of the most popular beaches in South Korea. A total of 1,255 beachgoers participated in this study; 604 and 651 participants used the sun spray and sun cream, respectively, while sunbathing and enjoying water activities on the beach for one day. Exposure was analyzed following a probabilistic method. On comparing all subjects, it was found that the group that used sun spray (mean: 44.52 g/day) used significantly more product (p = 0.000) than those who used sun cream (mean: 20.51 g/day). By analyzing the daily exposure of sun spray and sun cream per unit body weight according to age and gender, the exposure amount of sun spray and sun cream was found to be highest among 2~9 year-old girls (mean for sun spray: 2.51 g/kg/day, p95: 5.50 g/kg/day, mean for sun cream: 0.79 g/kg/day, p95: 1.79 g/kg/day). The amount of sun spray used is approximately twice that of sun cream. Among both the sun spray and sun cream groups, the exposure amount per unit body weight was highest in girls younger than 10. These factors should be considered when conducting risk assessments of sun spray and sun cream.

        1인 가구를 위한 부엌가구 디자인 방향 제안

        This study is intended to seek the direction of kitchen furniture design for single households in order to make a contribution to improvement in residential environments of single households that increase annually. To achieve the study purpose, this study suggests the types that need to be applied to individual residential characteristics and targets or considered in the future, by analyzing the characteristics of single households in Korea and the types of kitchen furniture for single households under development now. For the study, based on the previous studies and relevant literature, the trends of kitchen furniture in various domestic and foreign furniture and design exhibitions were investigated, and data were collected from the internet and specialized magazines. The temporal scope of the study for gathering data ranges from 2010 to 2018. It appears in Korea, single households would highly increase centering around the young generation and the elderly, and young people prefer a simple life, whereas older people prefer a life to pay attention to health care. It seems young people put emphasis on financial aspects and older people put stress on psychological aspects. But males make much of convenience unlike females, who consider stability as important, in relation to spatial selection. The types of kitchen furniture are classified into modular furniture, flexible furniture, and small-sized kitchen. When the three types were analyzed, based on the characteristics of furniture for single households and the characteristics of kitchen space, it was found that modular kitchen furniture fit young people and small-sized kitchen furniture fit older people. It is also considered that the flexible type nicely suits males and the small-sized type is good for females.

        실버세대의 부엌디자인 방향제안

        This study is focused on seeking the significance of kitchen in future spaces for the elderly, which consider residential environments changing, with the stream of the times and the changed concept of the elderly, and suggesting an appropriate design direction. For this study, sixty seven academic journals on the elderly and designs were analysed and relevant key words were extracted. Based on the key words extracted, design factors and improvement measures were set and after an interview with nine experts, a design direction was established. As a result, five kitchen environment factors were extracted; eco-friendly (eco-design), universal (universal design), health healing (wellbeing), digital (smart IoT) and color environments. It is considered that for the elderly, kitchen environments, which pursue physical and psychological comfort and happiness can be suggested by transforming health healing factors to the theme of wellbeing. Universal design, eco-design and color environments were set as primary design factors, and smart IoT environments that enrich kitchen environments for the elderly were set as secondary factors. In order to make a contribution to the improvement in changing residential environments of the elderly, this study aims to explore the use or the significance of kitchen in residential environments of the elderly and find design factors for developing proper kitchen environments and furniture.

        노인주거에서 주방의 디자인방향 연구 - 노인주거의 행태개념과 주방요소를 중심으로 -

        This study suggests design directivity by focusing on the kitchen for the elderly. Considering the evolving population structure and current residential conditions, the environment for elderly in one-person households must be considered based on the characteristics of the elderly. Kitchen is the space that changed most significantly in the residential environment of South Korea and the meaning and functions are transforming most extensively in modern residences. The purpose of this study was to analyze the aim for the kitchen furniture and space in the residential environment of the elderly and apply it as a guideline for the design. For the study method, 40 references about kitchen were reviewed and analyzed to extract the core elements. Based on the extracted elements, the scope of the kitchen furniture and space were set up and detailed elements were considered to derive a design guideline centered on kitchen furniture. The derived information was classified based on the 12 elements of behavioral concept of the elderly and design directivity was suggested about it. The study results showed that approachability of the kitchen furniture and space should be considered in the kitchen environment of the elderly, and this was followed by legibility as a factor, in which the environment must be improved so that the elderly can recognize it easily. Lastly, convenience should ultimately be considered so that the physical elements can be used easily.

        공간에 표현되는 자연 빛의 특성에 관한 연구 -알바로 시자의 미술관 작품 중심으로-

        This study aims to recognize the necessity of natural light and explore the elements to express natural light in space. The purpose of this study is to investigate how natural light is expressed in the space to apply it to cultural art spaces like art museums. The research method is by exploring the characteristics of light through a literature review and setting up the elements to analyze in the light. 6 artistic works by Architect Alvaro Siza were selected to explore the expression features and methods of the space and light. The temporal range of the study was limited to the works by Alvaro Siza in the art museum established throughout 1990 to 2010, but limits were not imposed for the venue. Based on this, this study derives 5 features on how light affects the expression of the space. The result findings are as follows. First, the features of light include the perceptual light of the senses, the light of the sense of place that creates the space, and the light of the source that exists with the changes in time, and the light features, meaning of the expression, and methods can vary depending on the 3 purposes of light including symbolism, aesthetics, and experientiality. The expressive characteristics of light in the works of the art museum by Alvaro Siza can appear through the relationship in nature, the directivity of space, the structure of the space, the centrality of the space, and the three-dimensional space. It is anticipated for this study to provide psychological stability with treatment effects to the exhibition space users in the future and also be applied as a sustainable design method in the cultural art space.

        4차 산업혁명 시대의 부엌, 욕실 가구방향 제시

        The purpose of this study is to examine how to introduce new technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution for better lives of the elderly. In relation to advances in housing space, kitchen and bathroom are functional spaces requiring physical activities, water is used in these spaces, and improvements are required due to sanitary flaws. These areas have gone through the biggest changes over time. The elderly people in Korea contain cultural habits, since they have experienced the rapid changes in environments before and after the modern era. In spite of the improved environments, it is inconvenient for the elderly to use modern kitchen and bathroom because of their physical discomforts In this study, the environments of the times that the elderly have experienced, were analyzed from the cultural perspective and the problems when using modern kitchen and bathroom were observed from the physical perspective of the elderly, based on the previous studies. The analysis finding showed that in the past, culture was formed by natural environments and social factors and this has been continued in recent times. It seems that although traditional elements have disappeared with the changes in space and furniture in modern times, they will remain in cultural habits of the elderly. According to the result of the case study, recent kitchen and bathroom IOT technology is expected to enrich lives by providing convenience in life. But easy methods of using need to be developed, since recent kitchen and bathroom IOT technology consists of little unnecessary and complex functions for the elderly. Moreover, it was found that there was a lack of cases containing Korean culture for the elderly. It is thought that these study results need to be considered before introduction of new technology in the aging society and can serve as a reference for establishment of technical application concept.

        국내 · 외 스마트 주택의 경향 분석

        This study identifies the characteristics and trends in smart residential environment, and explores the current status of Korean homes aiming at contributing to the development of house environment applied with Korean digital technology. It identifies the trend of modern smart homes in South Korea and foreign countries including the United States, Europe, China, and Japan, and further explores the design direction of house environment applied with digital technology for Korean characteristics and its mart homes. There are five results from this study. First, smart functions in residential places enable us to orient comfortable, safe, economical, and enjoyable life and smart homes are evolving rapidly. Second, Korean apartments show slight smart functional differences depending on brands, yet overall they apply various smart functions. Daelim E-Pyeonan Saesang apartment was found to actively aim at smart function that manages energy efficiently. Third, overseas homes showed the difference of smart functions applied according to users, the size of homes and characteristics. However, they are assumed to apply universal service functions regardless of nations. However, Japan applies safe functional service considering natural disasters. This indicates that smart functions are applied in accordance with national characteristics. Lastly, the application of smart functions oriented for enjoyable life turned out insufficient both in domestic apartment and overseas apartment cases.

        창의적 디자인사고와 디자인 프로세스를 고려한 공간디자인 연구

        (연구배경 및 목적) 본 연구는 공간디자인 전공자의 창의적 교육 향상에 연구의 목적을 두고 창의적사고의 디자인방법이 공간디자인의 프로세스에서 어떠한 관계성이 있는지를 살펴보고 창의적 디자인 사고방법이 고려된 공간디자인 프로세스를 탐구하여 실행방안을 모색한다. (연구방법) 연구의 범위는 창의적 사고와 디자인 방법론(프로세스)에 대한 이론 고찰을 시행하고 창의적 디자인사고를 고려한 공간디자인 프로세스를 모델을 제안하였다. 제안된 모델은 공간디자인 전공의 학생들에게 사용을 유도하고 척도법을 활용하여 수행능력을 살펴보았다. 시간적 범위로 공간디자인 프로세스의 수행 기간은 2021년 5월부터 6월까지 두 달에 걸쳐 학생들의 프로젝트와 함께 진행되었다. 피험자로는 46명의 공간디자인교육을 수행하는 학생들로 프로젝트의 종료 후 23명씩 이틀에 거쳐서 진행되었다. 피험자들에게 프로세스를 진행한 후 수행능력을 바탕으로 영역별 프로세스의 능력 정도를 평가한 후 피험자들이 어려운 과정을 살펴보고 대안방안을 모색하였다. (결론) 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 디자인에서의 창의성은 문제를 인식하고 해결하는 과정에 있어서 무엇을 문제로 인식하느냐가 중요하며 이것을 우리는 디자인사고의 능력으로 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 디자인사고와 디자인 방법론을 고려한 공간디자인 프로세스는 1단계로 공간 공감하기 2단계로 공간의 문제를 정의하기 3단계로 공간의 문제를 해결하기 4단계는 공간을 표현하기 5단계는 디자인 결정 및 전달의 단계로 진행되었을 때 학생들의 수행 능력의 긍정적인 효과를 볼 수 있다. 셋째, 공간디자인 프로세스에서 공간을 정의, 즉 공간의 문제를 인지하는 능력이 학생들이 가장 어려워하는 과정으로 창의적 능력향상이 요구된다. 이것은 디자인사고의 ‘문제 인식’의 능력이 부족한 것으로 ‘공간의 문제 인식’ 에 해당하는 공간디자인 교육과정이 필요하다. (결과) 이를 위한 대안으로는 공간디자인커리큘럼의 기초과정에 학생들에게 ‘디자인사고’의 개념을 접할 수 있도록 하며, 특히나 디자인사고의 방법인 ‘확산과 수렴’의 과정을 통하여 ‘문제 인식’ 능력을 배양하도록 한다. 이와 같은 결과는 공간디자인 기획단계에서 ‘공간의 문제 인식’으로 연계될 것이며 궁극적으로는 공간디자인 프로세스 능력을 향상되게 할 것이다. 연구의 제한점은 피험자의 인원이 46명으로 한정되어 연구결과의 제시에 있어서 객관성이 다소 부족해 보일 수도 있다. 하지만 약 2개월 이상이 소요되었다는 시간적 범위와 해당 과정이 정성적 연구방법으로 진행된 것을 고려하였을 때 본 연구의 방법과 결과는 공간디자인 교육의 기초토대를 구축할 수 있다. 본 연구는 복잡한 공간디자인 프로세스의 효율적인 접근성을 유도하고 창의성이 기반이 된 디자인교육으로 공간디자인교육의 기초토대를 구축하는 연구의 기대효과가 있을 것으로 사료된다. (Background and Purpose) This study aimed to improve the creative education of those majoring in spatial design, and examined the relationship of the creative thinking-based design methods with the spatial design process, and furthermore, explored the spatial design process that took the creative design thinking methods into consideration, and sought the implementation measures. (Methodology) For the scope of this study, theoretical examination of creative thinking and design methodology(process) was conducted, and the spatial design process that took the creative design thinking into consideration was proposed. (Results) The students majoring in spatial design were induced to use the proposed model, and their performance ability was evaluated by using the scaling method. For temporal scope, the spatial design process was carried out for 2 months from May to June, 2021 in parallel with students' project. The subjects of this study were 46 students partaking in the spatial design education which was performed for 2 days by each group comprised of 23 students after completion of project. After the process was implemented for the subjects, the ability of the subjects for the process by area was evaluated based on their performance ability. Then, the subjects examined difficult processes and explored alternative measures. (Conclusions) The results of this study were as follows: First, the question of 'what should be recognized as problem in the process of problem recognition and resolution' takes on an importance for the creativity in the design, which can be considered the design thinking ability. Second, the spatial design processes, which took the design thinking and design methodology into consideration, could have a positive influence on the performance ability of students when those processes were carried out in 5 stages: the first stage involving the empathy with the space; the second stage for defining the problem of space; the third stage for resolving the problem of space; the fourth stage for spatial representation, and the fifth stage for design decision and conveyance. Third, the ability to define the space, i.e., the ability to recognize the problem of space, in the spatial design process, was found to present the greatest difficulty to students and required an improvement in the creative ability. As a solution to that, the basic course of spatial design curriculum should be designed in such a way that the concept of 'design thinking' can be approached by students, and particularly, the 'problem recognition' ability should be developed through the process of 'divergence and convergence', a method for design thinking. Such results will be linked to the 'recognition of the problem of space' in the spatial design planning stage, and ultimately, will lead to the improvement of spatial design process ability.
