A two-stage cascaded foreground seeds generation for parametric min-cuts
( Shao-mei Li ),( Jun-guang Zhu ),( Chao Gao ),( Chun-wei Li ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.11
Parametric min-cuts is an object proposal algorithm, which can be used for accurate image segmentation. In parametric min-cuts, foreground seeds generation plays an important role since the number and quality of foreground seeds have great effect on its efficiency and accuracy. To improve the performance of parametric min-cuts, this paper proposes a new framework for foreground seeds generation. First, to increase the odds of finding objects, saliency detection at multiple scales is used to generate a large set of diverse candidate seeds. Second, to further select good-quality seeds, a two-stage cascaded ranking classifier is used to filter and rank the candidates based on their appearance features. Experimental results show that parametric min-cuts using our seeding strategy can obtain a relative small pool of proposals with high accuracy.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of bevacizumab concomitant with pemetrexed in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: A total of 72 patients were randomly divided into a combination group (pemetrexed+bevacizumab, n=36) and a pemetrexed group (n=36) and assessed for disease control (CR+PR+SD) after 4-cycles of first-line GP chemotherapy (gemcitabine+cisplatin). Clinical efficacy, progression-free survival time (PFS), overall survival time (OS), overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR) and rate of adverse responses between two groups were observed and compared. Results: ORR and DCR were 27.8% and 83.4% in combination group, and 16.7% and 69.5% in the pemetrexed group, respectively, but there were no significant differences (P>0.05). PFS in combination group and pemetrexed group were 4.6 months and 3.9 months respectively (P=0.09), whereas OS in the combination group was 14 months, evidently higher than in the pemetrexed group (11 months, P=0.004). Adverse responses in both groups included high blood pressure, bleeding, thrombocytopenia, anemia, elevated transaminase, diarrhea, vomiting and proteinuria, but there were no significant differences (P>0.05). Conclusions: Bevacizumab concomitant with pemetrexed has better clinical efficacy and safety, giving rise to prolonged survival time in patients with advanced NSCLC.

Background: Pax8 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma 1 gene (Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$) are important factors in tumors. Several studies have suggested that follicular thyroid cancer may arise from Pax8- $PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement. In order to have a better understanding of the association between Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement and follicular thyroid cancer, we conducted the presenmt meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: The information was extracted from PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science. Statistic analysis was performed with Stata12.0 software. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated using a fixed-effects model. We also performed heterogeneity and publication bias analyses. Results: Nine studies including 198 follicular thyroid cancer patients and 268 controls were considered eligible. The frequency of Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement was significantly higher in the follicular thyroid cancer group than in the control group, with a pooled OR of 6.63 (95%CI=3.50-12.7). In addition, through subgroup analysis, the OR between Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement and follicular thyroid cancer was 6.04 (95%CI = 3.18-11.5) when using benign tumor tissues as controls. The OR for the method subgroup was 9.99 (95% CI =4.86-20.5) in the RT-PCR. Conclusions: The final results demonstrated that Pax8-$PPAR{\gamma}1$ rearrangement has significant association with follicular thyroid cancer.

Neospora caninum is the etiologic agent of bovine neosporosis, which affects the reproductive performance of cattle worldwide. The transmembrane protein, NcSRS2, and dense-granule protein, NcGRA7, were identified as protective antigens based on their ability to induce significant protective immune responses in murine neosporosis models. In the current study, NcSRS2 and NcGRA7 genes were spliced by overlap-extension PCR in a recombinant adenovirus termed Ad5-NcSRS2-NcGRA 7, expressing the NcSRS2-NcGRA7 gene, and the efficacy was evaluated in mice. The results showed that the titer of the recombinant adenovirus was 109TCID50/ml. Three weeks post-boost immunization (w.p.b.i.), the IgG antibody titer in sera was as high as 1:4,096. IFN-γ and IL-4 levels were significantly different from the control group (P<0.01). This research established a solid foundation for the development of a recombinant adenovirus vaccine against bovine N. caninum.
Neutronics Analysis of a 200 kWe Space Nuclear Reactor with an Integrated Honeycomb Core Design
Chen Chao,Mei Huaping,He Meisheng,Li Taosheng 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.12
Heat pipe cooled nuclear reactor has been a very attractive technical solution to provide the power for deep space applications. In this paper, a 200 kWe space nuclear reactor power design has been proposed based on the combination of an integrated UN ceramic fuel, a heat pipe cooling system and the Stirling power generators. Neutronics and thermal analysis have been performed on the space nuclear reactor. It was found that the entire reactor core has at least 3.9 $ subcritical even under the worst-case submersion accident superimposed a single safety drum failure, and results from fuel temperature coefficient, neutron spectrum and power distribution analysis also showed that this reactor design satisfies the neutronics requirements. Thermal analysis showed that the power in the core can be successfully removed both in normal operation or under one or more heat pipes failure scenarios.

A gene, ClCDA, encoding chitin deacetylase from Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, was optimized according to the codon usage bias of Pichia pastoris and synthesized in vitro by overlap extension PCR. It was secretorily expressed in P. pastoris GS115 using the constitutive expression vector pHMB905A, The expression level reached the highest with 110 mg/l culture supernatant after 72 h of methanol induction, which comprised 77.27 U/mg chitin deacetylase activity, SDS-PAGE, mass spectrometry, and deglycosylation assays demonstrated that partial recombinant protein was glycosylated with an apparent molecular mass of 33kDa, The amino acid sequences of recombinant proteins were confirmed by mass spectrometry.
Cordycepsmilitaris polysaccharide triggers apoptosis and G0/G1 cell arrest in cancer cells
Cheng Chen,Mei-LinWang,Chao Jin,Huijuan Chen,Shao-Hui Li,Shu-Ying Li,Xing-Fan Dou,Jun-Qiang Jia,Zhong-Zheng Gui 한국응용곤충학회 2015 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.18 No.3
Although many studies have shown the antitumor properties of Cordyceps militaris (artificial cultivated from Bombyx mori pupa) polysaccharides, little is known regarding the mechanism of its effects. This study was conducted to determine the mechanism of antitumor effects of C. militaris polysaccharide extract by evaluating apoptosis rate and cell cycle progression status in human liver cancer cell SMMC-7721, stomach cancer cell BGC-823 and breast cancer cell MCF-7. Results showed that C. militaris polysaccharides inhibited proliferation of SMMC-7721, BGC-823 and MCF-7 cells with an IC50 of 192 ± 23.2 μg/mL, 237 ± 12.7 μg/mL and 165 ± 16.3 μg/mL, respectively. We also found that C. militaris polysaccharides at increasing concentrations induced apoptosis dose dependently in those cancer cells: apoptosis rates were 48.3%, 59.4% and 70.9% for SMMC-7721, 41.3% and 57.0%, 72.2% for BGC-823 and 61.3%, 66.9% and 80.6% for MCF-7 at 110, 156 and 323 mg/mL of C. militaris polysaccharides, respectively. C. militaris polysaccharides arrested SMMC-7721, BGC-823 and MCF-7 cells at G0/G1 and G2/M phases with corresponding decrease in S-phase. This study suggests that C. militaris polysaccharides may exert its antitumor effects in those cancer cells by suppressing its growth, arresting the G0/G1-phase, reducing DNA synthesis and inducing apoptosis.

Aim: To investigate the expression of protein kinase $CK2{\alpha}$ ($CK2{\alpha}$) in human thyroid disease and its relationship with thyroid cancer metastasis. Materials and Methods: Using immunohistochemistry we measured the expression of $CK2{\alpha}$ in 76 benign and malignant human thyroid cancer tissues, including 10 pairs of papillary carcinoma tissues with or without lymph node cancerous metastasis and similarly 10 pairs of lymph nodes. Results: The expression of $CK2{\alpha}$ was found to be higher in thyroid carcinoma cases (papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, anaplastic carcinoma and medullary carcinoma) than in ones such as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, nodular goiter and adenoma. These findings were also confirmed by RT-PCR and Western blotting. More strikingly, elevated expression of $CK2{\alpha}$ in thyroid papillary carcinoma tissues was not only significantly associated with lymph node cancerous metastasis and clinical stage of thyroid cancers; but also correlated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and high tenascin C (TNC) expression. In addition, EMT and high TNC expression in thyroid carcinoma tissues was significantly associated with lymph node cancerous metastasis. Conclusions: Elevated expression of nuclear $CK2{\alpha}$ is a poor prognosis indicator in lymph node cancerous metastasis of human thyroid cancers.
