DI (direct injection) systems have been studied to improve thermal efficiency of gasoline engines. The analysis of spray behavior is important to examine the combustion characteristics of DI gasoline engines because fuel-air mixture formation is controlled by spray characteristics and gas motion. In this study, the characteristics of a fan-shaped spray, such as the droplet size, its velocity and the droplet-size distribution were simultaneously measured on a 2D plane by using an improved ILIDS (Interferometric Laser Imaging for Droplet Sizing) method. As a result, interesting relationships between the droplets diameter and the velocity were found. In addition, numerical analysis of a fan-shaped spray was conducted and the results were compared to the measured results. In numerical analysis, the nozzle internal flow was predicted by using VOF (Volume of Fluid) model that can simulate the two-phase flow inside the nozzle to give the liquid film formation process outside the nozzle. Using the results of VOF model for the initial conditions, numerical analysis of the spray by DDM (Discrete Droplet Model) was carried out to examine the droplets breakup process. As a result, SMD has become small with going away from the nozzle center section that is the same tendency as the experiment.

Sustainable art project, ‘Himming’, has started in Himi-city, Toyama, since 2004. The creative process is steadily and slowly in progress to originate our own space by ourselves. Masato Nakamura has been producing a “social operating system” in this small town which has no art museums or galleries, working together with the town to achieve their new personality and the aspect.
Cutting characteristics of twist drill having cutting edges for drilling and reaming
Masato Okada,Naoki Asakawa,Yusuke Fujita,Makoto Nikawa 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.5
In this study, the cutting characteristics of a drill reamer, which has conventional twist drill cutting edges appended for reaming, wereinvestigated. A drill reamer has three types of cutting edges, whose roles are drilling, semi-finishing, and finishing. The cutting characteristicsof a conventional twist drill were compared to those of the drill reamer. The cutting characteristics were evaluated using the thrustforce, cutting torque, surface roughness, wear behavior of the cutting edges, and cutting edge temperature. The study used a workpiecemade of carbon steel. The temperature of the cutting edge for reaming reached a maximum value of approximately 420°C, even thoughthe depth of the cut was very small. The inner surface roughness with the drill reamer was superior to that with the conventional drill, even under dry and low-speed cutting conditions. The abrasive wear observed on the margin face of the cutting edge used for reaming.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of incomplete surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy on the prognosis of patients with intraoperative rupture of capsulated stage I epithelial ovarian cancer (OvCa). Methods: A regional retrospective study was conducted between 1986 and 2019. Among 4,730 patients with malignant ovarian tumors, 534 women with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IA and IC1 epithelial OvCa were eligible. Differences in survival outcomes were examined between patients with stage IA and IC1 tumors and the effects of uterine preservation, complete-staging lymphadenectomy, and adjuvant chemotherapy were investigated by an in-depth subgroup analysis. To analyze therapeutic effects, baseline imbalances were adjusted using propensity score (PS). Results: The prognosis of patients with stage IC1 tumors was worse than those with stage IA. Surgical spill did not affect the site of recurrence. In the PS-adjusted subgroup analysis, uterine preservation (hazard ratio [HR]=1.669; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.052–2.744), incomplete-staging lymphadenectomy (HR=1.689; 95% CI=1.211–2.355), and the omission of adjuvant chemotherapy (HR=3.729; 95% CI=2.090–6.653) significantly increased the HR of recurrence for patients with stage IC1 tumors compared to those with stage IA tumors. Adjuvant chemotherapy decreased the impact of rupture with uterine preservation (HR=0.159; 95% CI=0.230–1.168) or incomplete-staging lymphadenectomy (HR=0.987; 95% CI=0.638–1.527). Conclusion: The present results suggest intraoperative rupture of capsulated stage I epithelial OvCa is associated with a poor prognosis. When chemotherapy is given for patients receiving incomplete surgery, there is no longer an increased risk of recurrence observed with the rupture.

There is no report that describes in detail the radiological and intraoperative findings of rickets with symptomatic cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Here, we describe a case of X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets with cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament presenting unique radiological and intraoperative findings. The patient presented progressive tetraparesis. Magnetic resonance imaging studies revealed severe cervical spinal cord compression caused by ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Computed tomography scans revealed homogeneously increased vertebral bone density. An expansive laminoplasty was performed. At surgery, homogeneously hard lamina bone was burdened in drilling and opening of the laminae. The patient’s neurological symptoms were improved postoperatively. Bony fusion of the hinges occurred postoperatively. Therefore, expansive laminoplasty could be performed for symptomatic cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament with X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets. However, unusual bone characters should be taken into consideration for careful operation during surgery.
Paradigm Shift in Maritime Transport
Masato SHINOHARA 한국해운물류학회 2009 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.25 No.1
This paper is an explorative, conceptual study on the fundamental problem of maritime transport. The author suggests that the present mechanism of decision-makings will not function on the currently prevailing paradigm: i.e. freedom of shipping and the economies of scale. The current market mechanism relies on rationality, which is only workable within the framework of short-term predictability. To address the globalised economies and the eventual increase in maritime traffics, more control will inevitably be extended over the supervision of navigation and shipping management. In this future circumstance, the effectiveness of legislative measures will be limited. Rather, a non-economical value system should be incorporated into the decision-making processes of maritime management. It will be the world where moral and ethic are more seriously dealt with in the maritime economic theories
