      • Potential use of mine tailings and fly ash in concrete

        Sunil, B.M.,Manjunatha, L.S.,Ravi, Lolitha,Yaragal, Subhash C. Techno-Press 2015 Advances in concrete construction Vol.3 No.1

Tailing Material (TM) and Fly Ash (FA) are obtained as waste products from the mining and thermal industries. Studies were carried out to explore the possibility of utilizing TM as a part replacement to fine aggregate and FA as a part replacement to cement, in concrete mixes. The effect of replacing fine aggregate by TM and cement by FA on the standard sized specimen for compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strengths are evaluated in this study. The concrete mix of M40 grade was adopted with water cement ratio equal to 0.40. Concrete mix with 35% TM and 65% natural sand (TM35/S65) has shown superior performance in strength as against (TM0/S100, TM30/S70, TM40/S60, TM50/S50, and TM60/S40). For this composition, studies were performed to propose the optimal replacement of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) by FA (Replacement levels studied were 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%). Replacement level of 20% OPC by FA, has shown about 0-5% more compressive strength as against the control mix, for both 28 day and 56 days of water curing. Interestingly results of split tensile and flexural strengths for 20% OPC replaced by FA, have shown strengths equal to that of no replacement (control mix).

Impact of third and fourth harmonic laser irradiation at embryonic stage on biocommercial traits of Bombyx mori

        S. R. Hosagoudar,Ashok A. HOOLI,H.B. MANJUNATHA 한국곤충학회 2010 Entomological Research Vol.40 No.2

In order to study the impact of third and fourth harmonic laser on bio-commercial traits of silkworm Bombyx mori, silkworm eggs of 2, 8, 16 and 24 h old embryos were exposed for varying durations to both third and fourth harmonic lasers. Computation of data is explicit that the third harmonic laser had a positive influence for shorter duration exposures on all traits, like hatching percentage (15% increase), larval weight (14% increase), cocooning percentage (12% increase), cocoon weight (7% increase), shell weight (9% increase), shell ratio (15% increase) and fecundity (11% increase) with significant increases in the batches exposed for shorter durations (up to 90 sec) with respect to their controls. Thereafter levels decreased as the duration of exposure increased. Notably, fourth harmonic laser irradiation reveals the negative effect on all the traits studied in the present study. Surprisingly the filament length was decreased in all irradiated samples for both the third and fourth harmonic laser, expect for 24 h old embryos irradiated for 30 s by the third harmonic laser which showed a 6% increase over the control.

      • Matrilin‐3 codelivery with adipose‐derived mesenchymal stem cells promotes articular cartilage regeneration in a rat osteochondral defect model

        Muttigi, Manjunatha S.,Kim, Byoung Ju,Choi, Bogyu,Yoshie, Arai,Kumar, Hemant,Han, Inbo,Park, Hansoo,Lee, Soo‐,Hong Wiley (John WileySons) 2018 Journal of tissue engineering and regenerative med Vol.12 No.3

<P>Matrilin-3 is an essential extracellular matrix component present only in cartilaginous tissues. Matrilin-3 exerts chondroprotective effects by regulating an anti-inflammatory function and extracellular matrix components. We hypothesized that the codelivery of matrilin-3 with infrapatellar adipose-tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (Ad-MSCs) may enhance articular cartilage regeneration. Matrilin-3 treatment of Ad-MSCs in serum-free media induced collagen II and aggrecan expression, and matrilin-3 in chondrogenic media also enhanced in vitro chondrogenic differentiation. Next, the in vivo effect of matrilin-3 codelivery with Ad-MSCs on cartilage regeneration was assessed in an osteochondral defect model in Sprague Dawley rats: Ad-MSCs and hyaluronic acid were implanted at the defect site with or without matrilin-3 (140, 280, and 700ng). Safranin O staining revealed that matrilin-3 (140 and 280ng) treatment significantly improved cartilage regeneration and glycosaminoglycan accumulation. In the animals treated with 140-ng matrilin-3, in particular, the defect site exhibited complete integration with surrounding tissue and a smooth glistening surface. The International Cartilage Repair Society macroscopic and O'Driscoll microscopic scores for regenerated cartilage were furthermore shown to be considerably higher for this group (matrilin-3; 140ng) compared with the other groups. Furthermore, the defects treated with 140-ng matrilin-3 revealed significant hyaline-like cartilage regeneration in the osteochondral defect model; in contrast, the defects treated with 700-ng matrilin-3 exhibited drastically reduced cartilage regeneration with mixed hyaline-fibrocartilage morphology. Codelivery of matrilin-3 with Ad-MSCs significantly influenced articular cartilage regeneration, supporting the potential use of this tissue-specific protein for a cartilage-targeted stem cell therapy.</P>

We also establish several new general formulas to compute the values for r9;n and r09;n. As an application, we establish explicit evaluations of Ramanujan's remarkable product of theta{functions.

      • Matrilin-3 Role in Cartilage Development and Osteoarthritis

        Muttigi, Manjunatha S.,Han, Inbo,Park, Hun-Kuk,Park, Hansoo,Lee, Soo-Hong MDPI 2016 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES Vol.17 No.4

<P>The extracellular matrix (ECM) of cartilage performs essential functions in differentiation and chondroprogenitor cell maintenance during development and regeneration. Here, we discuss the vital role of matrilin-3, an ECM protein involved in cartilage development and potential osteoarthritis pathomechanisms. As an adaptor protein, matrilin-3 binds to collagen IX to form a filamentous network around cells. Matrilin-3 is an essential component during cartilage development and ossification. In addition, it interacts directly or indirectly with transforming growth factor β (TGF-β), and bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) eventually regulates chondrocyte proliferation and hypertrophic differentiation. Interestingly, matrilin-3 increases interleukin receptor antagonists (IL-Ra) in chondrocytes, suggesting its role in the suppression of IL-1β-mediated inflammatory action. Matrilin-3 downregulates the expression of matrix-degrading enzymes, such as a disintegrin metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 4 (ADAMTS4) and ADAMTS5, matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13), and collagen X, a hypertrophy marker during development and inflammatory conditions. Matrilin-3 essentially enhances collagen II and aggrecan expression, which are required to maintain the tensile strength and elasticity of cartilage, respectively. Interestingly, despite these attributes, matrilin-3 induces osteoarthritis-associated markers in chondrocytes in a concentration-dependent manner. Existing data provide insights into the critical role of matrilin-3 in inflammation, matrix degradation, and matrix formation in cartilage development and osteoarthritis.</P>

Multifunctional properties of tin oxide nanoparticles synthesized by green and chemical approach

        Uday Y.S.,Manjunatha H.C.,Vidya Y.S.,Manjunatha S.,Soundar R.,Sridhar K.N. 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.55 No.-

Herein, we report the synthesis of SnO2 nanoparticles by combustion method using two reducing agents. One with urea as a fuel (SnO2U) and another one with Azadirachta indica leaves extract as a reducing agent (SnO2N) and calcined at 500oC for 3 hrs. The synthesized samples are characterized using different techniques. The Bragg reflections confirms the formation of pure tetragonal SnO2 NPs. The surface morphological analysis clearly indicates the formation of irregular shaped agglomerated NPs. The agglomeration and particle size was found to be more in SnO2U NPs. The estimated direct energy bandgap using Tauc's relation was found to be 3.75 and 3.37 eV for SnO2U and SnO2N respectively. Further, Photoluminescence excitation, emission, CIE and CCT analysis was performed. Thus, the present sample might be used as a nanophosphor material in Cool and Warm blue light emitting diodes. The cytotoxic properties against HeLa and MCF7 cells and compared the percentage of viability and cell death with standard chemotherapy drug Cisplatin. Theoretically, X-ray/gamma ray absorption properties such as mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) SnO2U and SnO2N NPs were evaluated which might finds an application in nuclear radiation dosimetry.

      • Ensemble Modulation Pattern based Paddy Crop Assist for Atmospheric Data

Sampath Kumar, S.,Manjunatha Reddy, B.N.,Nataraju, M. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.9

Classification and analysis are improved factors for the realtime automation system. In the field of agriculture, the cultivation of different paddy crop depends on the atmosphere and the soil nature. We need to analyze the moisture level in the area to predict the type of paddy that can be cultivated. For this process, Ensemble Modulation Pattern system and Block Probability Neural Network based classification models are used to analyze the moisture and temperature of land area. The dataset consists of the collections of moisture and temperature at various data samples for a land. The Ensemble Modulation Pattern based feature analysis method, the extract of the moisture and temperature in various day patterns are analyzed and framed as the pattern for given dataset. Then from that, an improved neural network architecture based on the block probability analysis are used to classify the data pattern to predict the class of paddy crop according to the features of dataset. From that classification result, the measurement of data represents the type of paddy according to the weather condition and other features. This type of classification model assists where to plant the crop and also prevents the damage to crop due to the excess of water or excess of temperature. The result analysis presents the comparison result of proposed work with the other state-of-art methods of data classification.

Effect of gas spacing and resonance frequency on theoretical performance of thermoacoustic refrigerators

        Prashantha B. G.,Seetharamu S.,Narasimham G. S. V. L.,Manjunatha K. 대한설비공학회 2023 International Journal of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.31 No.1

In this paper, the design and analysis of 500 W thermoacoustic refrigerators for the temperature difference of 28 K using helium and air are discussed. Helium is the best working gas, but air is chosen to study the possibility of replacing helium for the future cost-effective refrigerator since it is much cheaper than helium. Heat and work flow equations of thermoacoustic refrigerators are discussed. The refrigerator models are optimized by normalizing the design parameters using Rott’s linear thermoacoustic theory. The effect of gas spacing expressed in terms of the thermal penetration depth in stack-heat exchanger unit at 85% porosity is discussed. The effect of the resonance frequency of air on the stack-heat exchanger sheets spacing and thickness and on the theoretical performance is discussed. The effect of the resonance frequency of air on the theoretical performance at 200 Hz, 300 Hz, and 400 Hz is discussed. The cooler shows better COP of 1.72 at 300 Hz for air and 1.53 at 400 Hz for helium. The theoretical results are compared with the DeltaEC software results. The DeltaEC predicts cooling power and COP of 347 W at 1.02 for helium and 224 W at 0.79 for air, respectively.

X-ray / gamma ray radiation shielding properties of a-Bi 2 O 3 synthesized by low temperature solution combustion method

        B. Chinnappa Reddy,H.C. Manjunatha,Y.S. Vidya,K.N. Sridhar,U. Mahaboob Pasha,L. Seenappa,B. Sadashivamurthy,N. Dhananjaya,K.V. Sathish,P.S. Damodara Gupta 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.3

In the present communication, pure and stable a-Bismuth Oxide (Bi2O3) nanoparticles (NPs) weresynthesized by low temperature solution combustion method using urea as a fuel and calcined at 500oC. The synthesized sample was characterized by using powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Scanning ElectronMicroscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM),Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and UVeVisible absorption spectroscopy. The PXRDpattern confirms the formation of mono-clinic, stable and low temperature phase a-Bi2O3. The directoptical energy band gap was estimated by usingWood and Tauc's relation which was found to be 2.81 eV. The characterized sample was studied for X-ray/gamma ray shielding properties in the energy range0.081e1.332 MeV using NaI (Tl) detector and multi channel analyzer (MCA). The measured shieldingparameters agrees well with the theory, whereas, slight deviation up to 20% is observed below 356 keV. This deviation is mainly due to the influence of atomic size of the target medium. Furthermore an accuratetheory is necessary to explain the interaction of X-ray/gamma ray with the NPs.The present workopens new window to use this facile, economical, efficient, low temperature method to synthesizenanomaterials for X-ray/gamma ray shielding purpose
