Experimental and finite element analysis of residual stress and distortion in GTA welding of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel

        M. Zubairuddin,S. K. Albert,S. Mahadevan,M. Vasudevan,V. Chaudhari,V. K. Suri 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.12

In this paper, investigation of residual stress and distortion induced in 3 mm thick Modified 9Cr-1Mo steel plates during GTA weldingis carried out. SYSWELD software is used for the thermo-mechanical analysis. A 3D meshed model is created for the simulation anddouble ellipsoidal heat source distribution is used for the thermal analysis. Thermal cycles predicted near the fusion zone are comparedwith experimentally measured thermal cycles using thermocouples. Predicted residual stress profile across the fusion zone is comparedwith the measured profile using X-ray diffraction method. There is a good agreement between measured and predicted thermal cyclesand residual stress profile. Distortion of the weld joint is measured using vertical electronic height gauge. Finite element analysis of distortionof the weld joint is carried out by applying both large and small distortion theories. Comparison of experimental and numericalresults showed better accuracy if large distortion theory is applied.

Return Migrants and International Transfer of Technology : A Case Study of Azad, Jammu and Kashmir

        Chaudhary, M. Aslam,Hamdani, S. Nisar H. 세종대학교 국제경제연구소 2002 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.17 No.2

The study aims exploring contributions of return migrants, particularly, their role in international transfer of technology in Azad,Jammu and Kashmir(AJK). Besides, reasons for migration and impact on employment generation, as well as, characteristics of migrant(s) are identified who are most likely to promote the transfer of technology. For this purpose, a field survey was conduted in Azad, Jammu and Kashmir, an area with a high rate of international migration. Econometric models were estimated to draw empirical support for determining of the issues. The empirical evidences indicate that education level, demographic profile, career planning before migration, vocational training, duration of stay abroad and specific type of employer are some of the important determinants of migrants who are likely to transfer technology. The return migrants who spend on luxuries are less likely to contribute in this respect. Such migrants possess specific set of characteristics(s). As per our knowledge, this source of international transfer of technology has not been identified so far. Besides, different technologies like improvement in infoware, humanware, technoware and organisational skills etc, which contribute to improve human capital are identified. The study also provides information on re-employment pattern of return migrants. It further highlights impacts of return migrants on the promotion of local businesses and employment generation. Based upon the evidences, the study provides policy guideline to fully benefit from migrants. A labour policy to provide information about the types of feasible businesses, incentives to bring new technology and facilitation of setting up business could enhance local development. The study contributes by identifying an important new source of international transfer of technology(s) through migrants. The policy direction are provided to explored this new channel to transfer new technologies and, therefore, accelerate economic development in developing areas. The study would also be equally beneficial for other areas, which experience return migrants.

Effect of graded levels of soapnut (Sapindus mukorossi) shell powder on reproductive performance in broiler breeders

        S.K. Chaudhary,A. B. Mandal,R.Bhar,M. Gopi,A. Kannan,S. E. Jadhav,J.J. Rokade 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.1

Objective: This study investigated the effects of soapnut (Sapindus mukorossi) shell powder (SSP) on serum hormone level, egg quality, semen characteristics and reproductive performance of broiler breeders fed with a maize-soybean meal based diet. Methods: Ninety six female and twenty four male CARIBRO-VISHAL broiler breeders, 38-week old, were individually caged and randomly allocated to four treatment groups (24 female breeders/treatment and 6 male breeders/treatment): an un-supplemented control (T1) and three groups with 0.0176% SSP (group T2), 0.026% SSP (group T3) and 0.0528% SSP (group T4), to have supplementary saponin at 0, 50, 75, and 150 ppm, respectively, for 42 days. Results: The results indicated that serum (p<0.001) and seminal plasma (p<0.05) testosterone level, semen volume (p<0.001), mass motility (p<0.001), and live spermatozoa count (p<0.001) was increased in groups T3 and T4 compared to T2 and control groups. Compared with control group, total sperm count was increased (p<0.001) and dead spermatozoa count was decreased (p<0.001) in SSP supplemented groups. Supplementation of SSP did not affected the quality of egg lay. Compared with control group, fertility (p<0.01) and hatchability (total eggs set and fertile eggs set) (p<0.001) were significantly improved in SSP supplemented groups with the highest improvement in T3 treatment group. Embryonic death was decreased (p< 0.001) in SSP supplemented groups compared to control; lowest embryonic death was recorded in T3 treatment group. Conclusion: Thus, it was concluded that dietary supplementation of 0.026% SSP (saponin equivalent 75 ppm) improved the reproductive performance of broiler breeders.

Ash Gourd Peel Wax: Extraction, Characterization, and Application as an Edible Coat for Fruits

        K. M. Sreenivas,Kirtibala Chaudhari,S. S. Lele 한국식품과학회 2011 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.20 No.2

Ash gourd (Benincasa hispida Cogn) is a vegetable used in Asian countries and the peel contains high edible waxy materials. This paper reports extraction, characterization, and utilization of ash gourd peel wax as an edible coating in fruits; with strawberry (Fragaria ananassa) as a model system. Crude wax had melting point of 80ºC and molecular weight by number (Mn) and molecular weight by weight (Mw) at 2,277 and 2,323respectively. Dip method was used to coat crude wax as an emulsion on strawberry. Quantity of wax, concentration of sodium benzoate, and dip time were optimized and the values were 0.5%, 1M, and 3 min, respectively. Results were comparable with carnauba wax coating. Fruits without wax coating spoiled completely in less than 2 days at 25ºC. Wax coating enhanced the shelf life to 7 days at 25ºC and the properties such as texture, color, weight loss, titrable acidity, and microbial counts were well acceptable.

Some summation and Laplace transformation formulas for the Gauss hypergeometric series

        H. M. Srivastava,M. I. Qureshi,Chaudhary Wali Mohammad,M. S. Baboo 장전수학회 2016 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.26 No.1

The authors derive a family of three summation formulas for the Gauss hypergeometric series 2F1 and show how their summation formulas would provide the correct forms of some erroneous hypergeometric summation theorems recorded by Prudnikov et al. [3]. By means of the correct forms of these summation theorems, the Laplace transforms of Kummer’s confluent hypergeometric function 1F1 are also presented in closed forms.

      • High efficient Pt counter electrode prepared by homogeneous deposition method for dye-sensitized solar cell

        Song, M.Y.,Chaudhari, K.N.,Park, J.,Yang, D.S.,Kim, J.H.,Kim, M.S.,Lim, K.,Ko, J.,Yu, J.S. Applied Science Publishers 2012 APPLIED ENERGY Vol.100 No.-

Platinum counter electrodes in DSSC are generally prepared by thermal reduction method. Poor control over Pt particle size, agglomeration and bad adhesion to the transparent conducting substrate, are some of the shortcomings affecting overall efficiency of the cell. In order to achieve better dispersion and control over the particle size, we explored direct deposition of metal nanoparticles (NPs) from their precursor solution onto the FTO glass substrate by using a simple and effective urea-assisted homogenous deposition (HD) method. This method works at substantially lower temperature for hydrolysis of urea and uses mild reducing agent, ethylene glycol (EG), giving better control over particle size along with better adhesion and negligible agglomeration compared to the thermal reduction method. DSSC prepared from such Pt counter electrode exhibited much enhanced photovoltaic performance compared to ones prepared by thermal and EG reduction alone, with better light-to-electricity conversion efficiency of 9.34% under one sun illumination. This excellent conversion efficiency is attributed to the uniform dispersion and smaller size of the Pt NPs prepared by the novel, combined urea-assisted HD-EG synthesis method.

        Khan, M.S.,Shook, G.E.,Asghar, A.A.,Chaudhary, M.A.,Mcdowell, R.E. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1997 Animal Bioscience Vol.10 No.5

Data were from four institutional herds and four field data collection centers involved in a progeny testing program for Nili-Ravi buffaloes in Pakistan. The REML with a single trait animal model, employed on 2,353 lactations, from 901 daughters of 66 sires, gave a heritability estimate of 0.18 for milk yield with repeatability (between lactations) of 0.43. Estimated milk yield was highest at 65 months of age for the first parity and 81 months for later parities. Correction factors for age at calving, standardized to 60 months in the second and later parities, were developed.

Definition of Season in Animal Model Evaluation of NiIi-Ravi Buffaloes

        Khan, M.S.,Bhatti, S.A.,Asghar, A.A.,Chaudhary, M.A.,Bilal, M.Q. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1997 Animal Bioscience Vol.10 No.1

Data on 2,571 lactation records of Nili-Ravi buffaloes from four institutional herds and four field recording centers were analyzed under an animal model to see the effect of season definition on the error variance of the fitted model. Herd-year-season(HYS) was the main fixed effect along with permanent environment, breeding value and residuals as the random effects. All known relationships among the animals were considered. The error variance differed for various HYS combinations. It was minimum when then months were not grouped into seasons. The four or Five season scenarios were better than the two season scenarios. The average number of lactations represented in a HYS combination varied widely from 6 to 28. Very few subclasses for a given HYS combination warrants the use of fewer seasons for animal model evaluation of buffaloes.
