        A facile two-step preparation of compact and crystalline Sb2S3 thin film for efficient solar cells

        The two-step preparation of compact and crystalline Sb2S3 thin films was firstly reported using the pyrolysis of the Sb-butyldithiocarbamate complex solution in DMF. The porous and amorphous Sb2S3 thin films were successfully prepared at 170 ◦C for 30 min, and then can be converted to compact and crystalline Sb2S3 thin films at 200 ◦C for 30 min or 300 ◦C for 2 min. The corresponding solar cells with the architecture of FTO/TiO2 compact layer/Sb2S3/spiro-OMeTAD/Au achieved the photoelectric conversion efficiency of 4.16% at 200 ◦C and 5.05% at 300 ◦C. The two-step preparation of the compact and crystalline Sb2S3 thin films can provide the feasible approach for the fabrication of various microstructure thin film solar cells and the low preparation temperature of 200 ◦C was also attractive to assemble the flexible Sb2S3 thin film solar cells.

      • Celebrity Endorsement Problem on Social Media : Formulation, Analysis and Recommendation Algorithm

        In this paper, a new matching recommendation algorithm is proposed to help enterprises find one or more proper celebrities from social media for their product endorsement. The fans group of a celebrity, his impaction value in the social media, as well as the matching degree between the celebrity and the product are selected to measure a celebrity. The attribute similarities between target customers of the product and fans of the celebrity are calculated via the Pearson similarity formula. Then, considering the impaction value of the celebrity and the matching degree of the celebrity and the product which can be accessed on the website or usually available from the enterprise, an evaluation index is proposed. We use some data from Sina Micro-blog, which is the most popular social media platform in China, to show the effectiveness of our proposed matching recommendation algorithm. Moreover, the analysis shows that a particular celebrity may suitable to endorse different product on-line and off-line.

      • Protein-protein Interaction Network Analyses for Elucidating the Roles of LOXL2-delta72 in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Lysyl oxidase-like 2 (LOXL2), a member of the lysyl oxidase (LOX) family, is a copper-dependent enzyme that catalyzes oxidative deamination of lysine residues on protein substrates. LOXL2 was found to be overexpressed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in our previous research. We later identified a LOXL2 splicing variant LOXL2-delta72 and we overexpressed LOXL2-delta72 and its wild type counterpart in ESCC cells following microarray analyses. First, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of LOXL2 and LOXL2-delta72 compared to empty plasmid were applied to generate protein-protein interaction (PPI) sub-networks. Comparison of these two sub-networks showed hundreds of different proteins. To reveal the potential specific roles of LOXL2- delta72 compared to its wild type, the DEGs of LOXL2-delta72 vs LOXL2 were also applied to construct a PPI sub-network which was annotated by Gene Ontology. The functional annotation map indicated the third PPI sub-network involved hundreds of GO terms, such as "cell cycle arrest", "G1/S transition of mitotic cell cycle", "interphase", "cell-matrix adhesion" and "cell-substrate adhesion", as well as significant "immunity" related terms, such as "innate immune response", "regulation of defense response" and "Toll signaling pathway". These results provide important clues for experimental identification of the specific biological roles and molecular mechanisms of LOXL2-delta72. This study also provided a work flow to test the different roles of a splicing variant with high-throughput data.

        The effects of aging for improving wastewater sludge electro-dewatering performances

        The effects of sludge aging on improving sludge electro-dewatering (SED) performance were studied,with the sludge properties variation during aging process investigated. Sludge electro-dewateringperformances were explored by constant voltage method (25 V) on various samples. The organic matterin the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) was gradually consumed and decomposed during sludgeaging process. Under identical electro-dewatering conditions, dewaterability and time-space yield ofaged sludge achieved 49.33% solid content and 223.46 kg m 2 h 1 respectively. Such results indicate thebeneficial effects of sludge aging process in terms of SED performances, which needs further explorationinto fundamental mechanisms.

        The Magnetoresistance in Iron-based Superconductors

        The phase transition of vortex matter from solid to liquid was studied in iron-based superconductors. Based on the traditional vortex glass theory, we have examined the magnetoresistivity data of iron-based superconductors using our extended thermal activation model: ρ(B,T) = ρ((T-Tg(B))/(Tc(0)-Tg(B)))<SUP>v(z-1)</SUP>. We predict that the magnetic field-dependent area S + S? which integrates ρ with T is proportional to B<SUP>β</SUP>, where β is the vortex glass transition exponent. From our calculation, the vortex glass transition exponent is 0.33, close to the exponent of area S?+ S is 0.31 in SmO0.9F0.1FeAs; the exponent of area S is 0.63, which is close to the irreversibility line exponent 2/3. Both of the results show the validity of our model. In addition, our model is shown to be effective in describing irreversibility behavior in layered superconductors.

        Nasal similarity measure of 3D faces based on curve shape space

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We propose a novel method for measuring the nasal similarity among 3D faces. Firstly, we construct a representation for the nose shape, which is composed of a set of geodesic curves, each crosses the bridge of the nose. Next, using these geodesic curves, we formulate a similarity measure to compare among noses in the curve shape space. Under the Riemannian framework, the shape space is a quotient space for which the scaling, translation and rotation are removed. Since the nose similarity measure is based on the shape comparison, the proposed method has the following advantages: (1) the similarity measure is robust to facial expressions since the nose is not affected by facial expressions; (2) the geometric features of the nose shape match well with the human perception; (3) the similarity measure is independent of the mesh grid because the chosen nose curves are not sensitive to the triangular mesh model. We construct a nasal hierarchical structure for noses organization which is based on nose similarity measure results. In our experiments, we evaluate the performance of the proposed method and compare it with competing methods on three public face databases namely, FRGC2.0, Texas3D and BosphorusDB. The results show superiority of the proposed method in terms of both the speed and the accuracy when the nasal measurements are processed in the nasal hierarchical structure and the nasal samples with low sampling rate (5%-25% of original point cloud).</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We present a representation of the nose shape. </LI> <LI> We propose a nasal similarity measure based on the metric of nose curves in the shape space. </LI> <LI> We construct a nasal hierarchical structure for nose statistical analysis. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Enhancement of Anti-tumor Activity of Newcastle Disease Virus by the Synergistic Effect of Cytosine Deaminase

        This study was conducted to investigate enhancement of anti-tumor effects of the lentogenic Newcastle disease virus Clone30 strain (NDV rClone30) expressing cytosine deaminase (CD) gene against tumor cells and in murine groin tumor-bearing models. Cytotoxic effects of the rClone30-CD/5-FC on the HepG2 cell line were examined by an MTT method. Anti-tumor activity of rClone30-CD/5-FC was examined in H22 tumor-bearing mice. Compared to the rClone30-CD virus treatment alone, NDV rClone30-CD/5-FC at 0.1 and 1 MOIs exerted significant cytotoxic effects (P<0.05) on HepG2 cells. For treatment of H22 tumor-bearing mice, recombinant NDV was injected together with 5-FC given by either intra-tumor injection or tail vein injection. When 5-FC was administered by intra-tumor injection, survival for the rClone30-CD/5-FC-treated mice was 4/6 for 80 days period vs 1/6, 0/6 and 0/6 for the mice treated with rClone30-CD, 5-FC and saline alone, respectively. When 5-FC was given by tail vein injection, survival for the rClone30-CD/5-FC-treated mice was 3/6 vs 2/6, 0/6 and 0/6 for the mice treated with rClone30-CD, 5-FC or saline alone, respectively. In this study, NDV was used for the first time to deliver the suicide gene for cancer therapy. Incorporation of the CD gene in the lentogenic NDV genome together with 5-FC significantly enhances cell death of HepG2 tumor cells in vitro, decreases tumor volume and increases survival of H22 tumor-bearing mice in vivo.

      • Joint MR image reconstruction and super-resolution via mutual co-attention network

        In the realm of medical diagnosis, recent strides in deep neural network-guided magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) restoration have shown promise. Nevertheless, persistent drawbacks overshadow these advancements. Challenges persist in balancing acquisition speed and image quality, while existing methods primarily focus on singular tasks like MRI reconstruction or super-resolution (SR), neglecting the interplay between these tasks. To tackle these challenges, this paper introduces the mutual co-attention network (MCAN) specifically designed to concurrently address both MRI reconstruction and SR tasks. Comprising multiple mutual cooperation attention blocks (MCABs) in succession, MCAN is tailored to maintain consistency between local physiological details and global anatomical structures. The intricately crafted MCAB includes a feature extraction block, a local attention block and a global attention block. Additionally, to ensure data fidelity without compromising acquired data, we propose the channel-wise data consistency block. Thorough experimentation on the IXI and fastMRI dataset showcases MCAN’s superiority over existing state-of-the-art methods. Both quantitative metrics and visual quality assessments validate the enhanced performance of MCAN in MRI restoration. The findings underscore MCAN’s potential in significantly advancing therapeutic applications. By mitigating the trade-off between acquisition speed and image quality while simultaneously addressing both MRI reconstruction and SR tasks, MCAN emerges as a promising solution in the domain of magnetic resonance image restoration.
