      • Inferring Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in MicroRNA Binding Sites of Lung Cancer-related Inflammatory Genes

        Single nucleotide polymorphisms located at microRNA (miRNA)-binding sites are likely to affect the expression of miRNA targets and may contribute to the susceptibility of humans to common diseases. Here 335 candidate lung cancer-related inflammatory genes were selected according to the existing literature and database. We identified putative miRNA-binding sites of 149 genes by specialised algorithms and screened SNPs in the 3'UTRs of these genes. By calculating binding free energy, we sorted 269 SNPs on the basis of the possibility of prediction. The proposed approach could help to easy the identification of functionally relevant SNPs and minimize the workflow and the costs.

        Molecular cloning of the duck MEF2C gene cDNA coding domain sequence and its expression during fetal muscle tissue development

        Myogenic enhancer transcription factor 2c (MEF2c), one of the members of the MEF2 family of transcription factors, plays an important role in mammalian muscle development. However, the role of MEF2c in avian muscle development still remains unclear. To understand the function of MEF2c in avian muscle development, we first cloned the duck MEF2c coding domain sequence (CDS) and analyzed MEF2c expression in duck muscle tissues of embryos from 10 days of incubation to 1 week after birth using real-time PCR technology. The results showed that the duck MEF2c CDS consists of 1,398nucleotides that encode 465 amino acids. The MEF2c duck protein contains a MADS domain, a MEF2 domain and a HJURP_C domain with high homology to related proteins in other organisms. Different expression levels of MEF2c were found in skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle. Therefore, these results indicated that duck MEF2c has two conserved domains (a MADS and a MEF2 domain), is an indispensable regulator of muscle development, and plays an important role in the development of duck muscle.

        <i>Yersinia pseudotuberculosis</i> Exploits CD209 Receptors for Promoting Host Dissemination and Infection

        <P><I>Yersinia pseudotuberculosis</I> is a Gram-negative enteropathogen and causes gastrointestinal infections. It disseminates from gut to mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs), spleen, and liver of infected humans and animals.</P><P><I>Yersinia pseudotuberculosis</I> is a Gram-negative enteropathogen and causes gastrointestinal infections. Although the molecular mechanisms for dissemination and infection are unclear, many Gram-negative enteropathogens presumably invade the small intestine via Peyer’s patches to initiate dissemination. In this study, we demonstrate that <I>Y. pseudotuberculosis</I> utilizes its lipopolysaccharide (LPS) core to interact with CD209 receptors, leading to invasion of human dendritic cells (DCs) and murine macrophages. These <I>Y. pseudotuberculosis</I>-CD209 interactions result in bacterial dissemination to MLNs, spleens, and livers of both wild-type and Peyer’s patch-deficient mice. The blocking of the <I>Y. pseudotuberculosis</I>-CD209 interactions by expression of O-antigen and with oligosaccharides reduces infectivity. Based on the well-documented studies in which HIV-CD209 interaction leads to viral dissemination, we therefore propose an infection route for <I>Y. pseudotuberculosis</I> where this pathogen, after penetrating the intestinal mucosal membrane, hijacks the <I>Y. pseudotuberculosis</I>-CD209 interaction antigen-presenting cells to reach their target destinations, MLNs, spleens, and livers.</P>

        중국 커피시장의 활성화 방안에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 중국의 커피시장의 문제점과 활성화 방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 중국의 커피시장은 커다란 잠재력을 지니고 있으나 외국커피산업의 진출로 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 특히 중국 자체적으로 커피를 생산하고 있음에도 불구하고 커피에 대한 인식부족, 이에 대한 정책부재, 빈약한 가공기업, 시장리스크에 대한 관리 부족등으로 중국 본토의 커피브랜드의 발전은 순조롭지 않다. 따라서 이를 활성화시키기 위해서는 커피에 대한 인식과 이념의 개선, 커피제조 기술개방의 가속화, 커피의 부가시장 활성화, 커피브랜드의 전략적 향상 등이 이루어져야 할 것이다. The history of China coffee is relatively short compare to other countries’. Moreover its recognition and policies on introducing advanced technologies are insufficient. Especially the Chinese coffee market itself is being pinched by the foreign well-known coffee brands since the Chinese coffee industry only focuses on the very basics of coffee production process. First is to give positive changes to the recognition of its coffee market. The Chinese government should implement laws and policies to introduce advanced technologies through realizing the significance and recognition on Chinese coffee industry. Second is to promote open market. The government should not only put their efforts in research and development but also in cultivating its human resources. Third is to know the importance of value added. It is obvious that developing value added and profit-making ability help corporate to diversely occupy its market. Forth is to improve domestic brands. The more scientific, developed and strategic production system should be introduced.         국제합작기업 파트너 특성, 제휴몰입도, 그리고 합작기업성과의 관계에 대한 연구: 중국 소재 국제합작기업을 중심으로

        문헌에 의하면 국제합작기업 파트너 특성이 합작기업성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구가 주로 부분적인 파트너 특성에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 또한 파트너 특성과 합작기업성과의 관계에 대한 제휴몰입도의 매개효과 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국제합작기업 파트너 간의 특성을 포괄적인 관점에서 CEO 리더십행동 유사성, 전략적 유사성, 자원적 유사성, 조직적 유사성 등으로 파악하고, 이들 특성이 제휴몰입도 및 합작기업성과에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석한다. 연구결과에 따르면 CEO 리더십행동 유사성과 조직적 유사성은 제휴몰입도 및 합작기업성과에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 반면, 전략적 유사성과 자원적 유사성은 제휴몰입도 및 합작기업성과에 부정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 제휴몰입도는 합작기업성과에 긍정적 영향을 미치고, 파트너 특성과 합작기업성과의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 중요한 결론 및 시사점을 제시한다. According to the literature, the studies on the effects of the characteristics of the international joint venture partners on joint venture performance are mainly focused on partial aspects of partners characteristics, and the studies that investigate a mediating effect of alliance commitment on the relationship between partners characteristics and joint venture performance are scarce. Hence, this research intends to identify comprehensive partners characteristics, including CEO leadership behaviors similarity, strategic similarity, resources similarity, and organizational similarity and examines their effects on alliance commitment and joint venture performance. The results reveal that CEO leadership behaviors similarity and organizational similarity have a positive influence on alliance commitment and joint venture performance, whereas strategic similarity and resources similarity have a negative influence on alliance commitment and joint venture performance. It is also found that alliance commitment affects joint venture performance positively and mediates the relationship between partners characteristics and joint venture performance. Based on these results, key conclusions and implications are discussed.

        Protective effects of l-theanine on rats with dextran sulfate sodium-induced infl ammatory bowel disease

        The aim of this study is to evaluate the antiinflammatory and protective eff ects of L -theanine in infl ammatorybowel disease (IBD) and to identify the underlyingmolecular mechanisms. Rats were pre-treated with L -theanineat 0, 50, 200, or 800 mg/kg/day. IBD was induced inrats using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). Histopathologicalanalysis suggests that L -theanine can suppress DSS-inducedIBD with signifi cant inhibition of infl ammation in large andsmall intestinal tissues. Moreover, the 200 mg/kg/day L -theanine-treated DSS group had higher body and small intestineweights, a lower disease activity index and expression ofinfl ammatory factors than the DSS group without pre-treatment. In RNA sequencing and tandem mass tag labelinganalyses, large number of mRNAs and proteins expressionlevel diff ered when compared with the DSS-induced ratswith and without 200 mg/kg/day L -theanine pre-treatment. Moreover, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathwayanalysis indicates the anti-infl ammatory activities ofL -theanine in DSS-induced IBD, with a high representationof genes in “Cholesterol metabolism” and “Retinol metabolism”pathways. Analysis of protein–protein interaction networksfurther indicates the involvement of these two pathways. These studies suggest that medium-dose L -theaninepre-treatment could ameliorate DSS-induced IBD throughmolecular mechanisms involving cholesterol and retinolmetabolism.

        Neural Adaptive Fixed-time Consensus Tracking for Multiple Euler-Lagrange Systems with Quantized Inputs

        In this article, the fixed-time consensus tracking problem is investigated for quantized multiple EulerLagrange systems (MELSs) with state constraints. First, a fixed-time distributed observer is constructed to estimate the leader’s states. Next, the barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs) are designed to implement the state constraints, and the radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) are employed to approximate uncertain dynamics. Then, the adaptive fixed-time local control protocol is designed to ensure that each agent to track the leader’s states estimated by the observer. Besides, a hysteretic quantizer is used for the input signals to avoid the chattering phenomenon. With the Lyapunov stability theory, it is proved that all error signals are semi-global fixed-time stable. Eventually, a numerical example is presented to show the validity of the proposed method.

        Impact of enhanced recovery after surgery program for hungry bone syndrome in patients on maintenance hemodialysis undergoing parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism

        Purpose: Hungry bone syndrome after parathyroidectomy is an important clinical problem in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. We examined the effect of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program on the incidence of hungry bone syndrome after parathyroidectomy in this population. Methods: This single-institution, retrospective study analyzed 108 patients on hemodialysis who underwent parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism. Patients were classified into the pre-ERAS (n = 52) and post-ERAS (n = 56) groups. The ERAS program identified high-risk patients and enforced aggressive measures to normalize calcium levels following parathyroidectomy. Results: There was no significant difference in age, sex, body weight, presenting symptoms, preoperative calcium and alkaline phosphatase levels, postoperative intact parathyroid levels, postoperative calcium levels at 1 and 24 hours after parathyroidectomy, and 30-day readmission rates between the groups. The post-ERAS group had significantly higher levels of postoperative calcium at 48 and 72 hours after parathyroidectomy, but a lower incidence of hungry bone syndrome and shorter postoperative length of stay. Patients with hungry bone syndrome had higher preoperative levels of alkaline phosphatase and intact parathyroid, longer postoperative length of stay, and were less likely to have been part of the ERAS program. High preoperative alkaline phosphatase levels and absence of the ERAS program were independent risk factors for hungry bone syndrome after parathyroidectomy. Conclusion: The ERAS program reduced the incidence of hungry bone syndrome and shortened the postoperative length of stay in patients on maintenance hemodialysis who underwent parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism.

        Efficient and Selective Construction of Pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine Derivatives

        An efficient and selective method for the synthesis of ethyl 2-amino/aryloxy-3-aryl-4-oxo-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine-7-carboxylate derivatives has been developed. The main process involved the reaction of diethyl 1-phenyl-3-((triphenylphosphoranylidene)amino)-1H-pyrrole-2,4-dicarboxylate and aromatic isocyanates, followed by addition of amines/phenols in the presence of catalytic amount of sodium ethoxide or solid potassium carbonate.
