Causal relationship between smoking status, smoking frequency and bladder cancer: a Mendelian randomization study

        Pang Lei,Ding Zijun,Chai Hongqiang,Li Fei,Wu Ming,Shuang Weibing 한국유전학회 2023 Genes & Genomics Vol.45 No.2

Background Smoking is a well-established risk factor for bladder cancer. However, it remained unclear that whether smoke status and smoke frequency increase bladder cancer. Objective We aim to explore the causal relationship between smoking status, smoking frequency and the risk of bladder cancer by Mendelian randomization. Methods Large sample size of the genome-wide association(GWAS) database of smoking status, smoking frequency and bladder cancer were obtained. Smoking status included never, previous and current whereas smoking frequency included cigarettes smoked per day, number of cigarettes currently smoked daily and pack years of smoking. Six sets of instrumental variables and 78 related single nucleotide polymorphic(SNP) loci were identified (P < 5 × 10–8. Linkage disequilibrium R2 < 0.001). The causal relationship between smoking status and bladder tumor was studied by inverse variance weighted (IVW), weighted median and MR-Egger regression. Sensitivity analysis were also performed. Results There is no causal effect from smoke status on bladder cancer risk while significantly positive relationship between smoking frequency on bladder cancer risk were found. IVW results showed that cigarettes smoked per day, number of cigarettes currently smoked daily and pack years of smoking increase bladder cancer (OR 1.001, 95% CI 1.000–1.002, P = 0.047; OR 1.003, 95% CI 1.000–1.005, P = 0.028; OR 1.004, 95% CI 1.001–1.006, P = 0.003). Sensitivity analysis showed that genetic pleiotropy did not bias the results. Conclusion The results of two sample Mendelian randomization analysis show that there is a positive causal relationship between smoking frequency and the risk of bladder cancer.

Study of the Electric Field Screening Effect for Field Emitter Arrays

        Nannan Li,Fei Yan,Shucai Pang,Lei Chen,Dazhi Jin,Wei Xiang,De Zhang,Jingyi Dai,Baoqing Zeng 한국물리학회 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.8

Understanding the influence of the interaction of emitters on the field emission performance of a field emitter array is of great importance for the design of a multi-emitter device. In this work, a screening factor S is defined to quantify the effect of electric field screening due to the interaction of emitters in an array. A three-dimensional finite integration technique is used to study the electric field screening effect for Spindt-type field emitter arrays which have potential applications in flatscreen displays and high-power vacuum electronics. The dependences of the electric field screening on the tip-to-tip spacing, half-angle of the emitter, height of the emitter and radius of the tip’s curvature are analyzed. The effects of the variations in the size of the emitter’s geometry on the most efficient arrangement to achieve maximum emission efficiency in an array are discussed.

Intracellular Polysaccharide and its Antioxidant Activity by Pleurotus citrinopileatus SM-01

        Su-Qian Wu,Shang-Long Gao,Hong-Hong Liu,Xin-Yi Sun,Long Hao,Le Jia,Li-Fei Pang,Shou-Hua Jia,Meng-Shi Jia 한국고분자학회 2013 Macromolecular Research Vol.21 No.6

The extraction parameters of intracellular polysaccharide (IPS) from Pleurotus citrinopileatus SM-01mycelia were optimized, and the in vitro and in vivo antioxidant activities of IPS were investigated. The optimum conditions of IPS extraction were predicted to be an ultrasonic treatment time of 664.09 s, precipitation time of 23.03h and pH 7.36, and IPS yield was estimated at 16.13%. The in vitro inhibition effects of IPS at a dosage of 5 g/L on the superoxide anion, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydroxyl radicals were 73.96±4.62%, 69.2±4.37%,and 50.75±4.39%, respectively, which were 72.56±5.08%, 22.83±1.94%, and 43.93±3.26% higher than that of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), respectively. The reducing power of IPS was 0.9±0.07, 69.81±5.24% higher than that of BHT. The activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in mice blood were 241.38±23.19, 454.95±42.39, 60.32±5.16, and 32.39±2.54 U/mL,respectively, and the malonaldehyde (MDA) level was 9.54±0.72 nmol/mL. The results provided a reference for the large-scale extraction of IPS by P. citrinopileatus SM-01 in industrial fermentation, suggesting that the IPS can be used as a potential antioxidant, which enhances adaptive immune responses.
