Increased Expression of P2RY2, CD248 and EphB1 in Gastric Cancers from Chilean Patients
Aquea, Gisela,Bresky, Gustavo,Lancellotti, Domingo,Madariaga, Juan Andres,Zaffiri, Vittorio,Urzua, Ulises,Haberle, Sergio,Bernal, Giuliano Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.5
Background: Gastric cancer (GC) ranks as one of the major causes of mortality due to cancer worldwide. In Chile, it is currently the leading cause of cancer death. Identification of novel molecular markers that may help to improve disease diagnosis at early stages is imperative. Materials and Methods: Using whole-genome DNA microarrays we determined differential mRNA levels in fresh human GC samples compared to adjacent healthy mucosa from the same patients. Genes significantly overexpressed in GC were validated by RT-PCR in a group of 14 GC cases. Results: The genes CD248, NSD1, RAB17, ABCG8, Ephb1 and P2RY2 were detected as the top overexpressed in GC biopsies. P2RY2, Ephb1 and CD248 showed the best sensitivity for GC detection with values of 92.9%, 85.7% and 64.3% (p<0.05), respectively. Specificity was 85.7%, 71.4% and 71.4% (p<0.05), for each respectively.

The management of asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) remains controversial. Recent series reported thatearly aortic valve replacement might be associated with improved clinical outcomes. However, the risk-benefit ratio should becarefully evaluated and early surgery only be proposed to a subset of asymptomatic patients considered at higher risk. Exerciseechocardiography can help unmask symptomatic patients combined with assessment of the hemodynamic consequences of AS. Recent studies have demonstrated that exercise echocardiography can provide incremental prognostic value to identify patientswho may benefit most from early surgery. In “truly” asymptomatic patients, an increase in mean aortic gradient ≥ 18–20 mmHg,a limited left ventricular contractile reserve or a pulmonary hypertension during exercise are predictive parameters of adversecardiac events. Exercise echocardiography is low-cost, safe and available in many referral centers, and does not expose patients toradiation. The purpose of this article is to describe the role of exercise testing and echocardiography in the management ofasymptomatic patients with severe AS and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction.
Effects of a bleaching agent on properties of commercial glass-ionomer cements
de Camargo, Fernanda Lucia Lago,Lancellotti, Ailla Carla,de Lima, Adriano Fonseca,Martins, Vinicius Rangel Geraldo,de Souza Goncalves, Luciano The Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry 2018 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.43 No.3
Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of a bleaching agent on the composition, mechanical properties, and surface topography of 6 conventional glass-ionomer cements (GICs) and one resin-modified GIC. Materials and Methods: For 3 days, the specimens were subjected to three 20-minute applications of a 37% $H_2O_2$-based bleaching agent and evaluated for water uptake (WTK), weight loss (WL), compressive strength (CS), and Knoop hardness number (KHN). Changes in surface topography and chemical element distribution were also analyzed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. For statistical evaluation, the Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon paired tests (${\alpha}=0.05$) were used to evaluate WTK and WL. CS specimens were subjected to 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$), and KH was evaluated by one-way ANOVA, the Holm-Sidak post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$), and the t-test for independent samples (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The bleaching agent increased the WTK of Maxxion R, but did not affect the WL of any GICs. It had various effects on the CS, KHN, surface topography, and the chemical element distribution of the GICs. Conclusions: The bleaching agent with 37% $H_2O_2$ affected the mechanical and surface properties of GICs. The extent of the changes seemed to be dependent on exposure time and cement composition.

Alkali-activated materials are a promising type of binder candidate as a substitute to Portland cement. Fly ashes can be used as binder precursors giving higher environmental benefits. In the present research, fly ashes (Type F) containing different amounts of unburned carbonaceous matter have been used to formulate mortars. Serious problems concerning the workability in the fresh state have been found when high carbon content are reached. An attempt to avoid the preliminary treatments used to eliminate the unburned matter is carried out by exploiting different mix-design receipts obtained by changing the water/binder ratio, the ratio of the alkaline activators and using different types of superplasticizer additives. Data so far collected underline that a high amount of unburned carbonaceous matter can not only compromise the mechanical properties of the materials, but also the rheological ones and underline the necessity to develop ad hoc additives for this type of binders.
