        Effect of high temperature on the bond performance between steel bars and recycled aggregate concrete

        The use of recycled aggregate concrete for the purpose of environmental and resource conservation has gained increasing interest in construction engineering. Nevertheless, few studies have reported on the bonding performance of the bars in recycled aggregate concrete after exposed to high temperatures. In this paper, 72 pull-out specimens and 36 cubic specimens with different recycled coarse aggregate content (i.e., 0%, 50%,100%) were cast to evaluate the bond behavior between recycled aggregate concrete and steel bar after various temperatures (20°C, 200°C, 400°C, 600°C). The results show that the recycled aggregate concrete pull-out specimens exhibited similar bond stress-slip curves at both ambient and high temperature. The bond strength declined gradually with the increase of the temperature. On the basis of a regression analysis of the experimental data, a revised bond strength mode and peak slip ratios relationship model were proposed to predict the post-heating bond-slip behavior between recycled aggregate concrete and steel bar.

        Early CT Findings of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Asymptomatic Children: A Single-Center Experience

        Objective: The current study reported a case series to illustrate the early computed tomography (CT) findings of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in pediatric patients. Materials and Methods: All pediatric patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 and who underwent CT scan in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from January 20, 2020 to February 28, 2020 were included in the current study. Data on clinical and CT features were collected and analyzed. Results: Four children were included in the current study. All of them were asymptomatic throughout the disease course (ranging from 7 days to 15 days), and none of them showed abnormalities in blood cell counts. Familial cluster was the main transmission pattern. Thin-section CT revealed abnormalities in three patients, and one patient did not present with any abnormal CT findings. Unilateral lung involvement was observed in two patients, and one patient showed bilateral lung involvement. In total, five small lesions were identified, including ground-glass opacity (n = 4) and consolidation (n = 1). All lesions had ill-defined margins with peripheral distribution and predilection of lower lobe. Conclusion: Small patches of ground-glass opacity with subpleural distribution and unilateral lung involvement were common findings on CT scans of pediatric patients in the early stage of the disease.

        Calcium-Alginate-Chitosan의 스트론튬 이온 흡착 거동

        Sodium alginate and chitosan are added to a CaCl2 solution to prepare calcium-alginate-chitosan and calciumalginategels. After dehydration through stoving, two types of adsorbent particles are obtained. The adsorption processof the particles obtained for low concentrations of Sr2+ satisfies a second-order kinetic equation and the Freundlich adsorptionmodel. The thermodynamic behaviors of the particles indicate that adsorption occurs via a spontaneous physical process. XPS pattern analysis is used to demonstrate the adsorption of Sr2+ by calcium alginate and chitosan. By buildingan interaction model of the molecules of chitosan and alginate with Ca2+ and Sr2+ to calculate energy parameters, Fukuiindex, Mulliken charge, and Mulliken population, adsorption of Sr2+ on the molecular chains of chitosan as well as theboundary of calcium-alginate-chitosan is observed to show weak stability; by contrast, adsorption between molecularchains is high.

        The Influence of a Second Metal on the Ni/SiC Catalyst for the Methanation of Syngas

        The catalytic performance of silicon carbide supported nickel catalysts modified with or without secondmetal (Co, Cu and Zn) for the methanation of CO has been investigated in a fixed-bed reactor using a feed consisting of25% CO and 75% H2 without any diluent gas. It has been found that the introduction of Co species can clearly improvethe catalytic activity of Ni/SiC catalyst, whereas the addition of Cu or Zn can result in a significant decrease in the catalyticactivity. The characterizations by means of XRD, TEM, XPS, CO-TPD and H2-TPR indicate that the addition ofCo could decrease the particle size of active metal, increase active sites on the surface of methanation catalyst, improvethe chemisorption of CO and enhance the reducibility of methanation catalysts. Additionally, the special interaction betweenCo species and Ni species is likely favorable for the dissociation of adsorbed CO on the surface of catalyst, and this mayalso contribute to the high activity of 5Co-Ni/SiC catalyst for CO methanation reaction. For 5Cu-Ni/SiC catalyst and 5Zn-Ni/SiC catalyst, Cu and Zn species could cover partial nickel particles and decrease the chemisorption amount of CO. These could be responsible for the low methanation activity. In addition, a 150h stability test under 2 MPa and 300 oCshowed that 5Co-Ni/SiC catalyst was very stable for CO methanation reaction.

        The Mediating Effect of Empathy on the Relationship between Cultural Intelligence and Intercultural Adaptation in Intercultural Service Encounters

        Globalization has led to a dramatic increase in intercultural service encounters between services providers and customers from diverse cultural backgrounds. This paper explores the causal relationship between service employees‟ cultural intelligence and adaptive sales behavior in intercultural service encounters, and the mediating effect of cognitive and emotional empathy on this relationship. A quantitative survey methodology was utilized to collect data on 341 salespeople at duty-free shops located on Jeju Island, Korea. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 18 and Amos 18. The results show that cultural intelligence has a significant impact on cognitive empathy, emotional empathy, and adaptive sales behavior. Cognitive empathy has a positive impact on adaptive sales behavior, whereas the relationship between emotional empathy and adaptive sales behavior is not significant. Additionally, cognitive empathy mediates the relationship of cultural intelligence and adaptive sales behavior. This study has useful managerial implications for employee selection, training, and development in service firms engaged in intercultural service encounters. This study extends prior research on intercultural service encounters by exploring the direct impact of cultural intelligence on intercultural adaptation and the mediating effect of empathy, suggesting the presence of a cognitive mechanism that plays a key role in the impact of cultural intelligence on adaptive sales behavior.

        Purpose - Owing to economic development and rapid globalization, the number of people traveling abroad has increased dramatically in recent years. For instance, according to data from World Tourism Organization, approximately 1,724 million tourists traveled abroad in 2016. This phenomenon has resulted in a change for domestic markets, as they no longer serve only domestic customers but also serve foreign customers as well. Therefore, intercultural service encounters between services providers and customers from diverse cultural backgrounds are becoming more frequent. Especially in the field of retailing, salesperson s customer oriented selling behavior is particularly important for the successful interactions. However, it is hard to find some factors that can improve salesperson s customer oriented selling behavior in intercultural sales encounters. Research design, data, and methodology - A quantitative survey methodology was utilized to collect data on 312 salespeople at duty-free shops located on Jeju Island, Korea. As a tourism-based region, Jeju Island has attracted a large number of foreign tourists since being designated as an international free city in 2002. Owing to this phenomenon, intercultural sales encounters between salespersons and customers from different cultures have become commonplace. Compared to other salespeople, salespeople working in duty-free shops have more frequent intercultural interactions, as over 90% of their total customers are from foreign countries. Additionally, regular professional training programs for salespeople help cultivate cultural intelligence. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 20. Results - This paper explores the role of empathy and cultural intelligence in intercultural sales encounters using a theoretical model incorporating the causal relationships between empathy(cognitive empathy and emotional empathy) and customer oriented selling behavior, as well as the moderating effects of cultural intelligence in these relationships. Conclusions - This study is almost the first to explore the influence of empathy and cultural intelligence in intercultural sales encounters. Thus, this study provides a meaningful contribution to the application of empathy and cultural intelligence in the retailing field and will draw the attention of personal distribution practicers and researchers to the importance of empathy and cultural intelligence. Additionally, this study has useful managerial implications for employee selection, training, and development in retailing firms engaged in intercultural sales encounters.

      • Use of waste glass as coarse aggregate in concrete: mechanical properties

        The possibility of using recycled coarse glass aggregates as a substitute for natural crushed stone are relatively limited. In order to promote it for engineering application, this paper reports the effect of coarse glass aggregate on mechanical behavior of concrete. The coarse aggregates are substituted for coarse glass aggregate (CGA) as 0%,20%,40%,60%,80% and 100%.The results show that increasing the coarse glass aggregate content cause decrease in compressive strength, the elastic modulus, the splitting tensile strength, the flexural strength. An equation is presented to generate the relationship between cube compressive strength and prism compressive strength, the relationship between cube compressive strength and elastic modulus, the relationship between cube compressive strength and splitting tensile strength, the relationship between cube compressive strength and flexural strength of coarse glass concrete.

        로하스가치가 로하스상품의 신뢰, 만족, 재구매의도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 새로운 소비 트렌드로 등장한 로하스를 중심으로, 로하스 소비 경험이 있는 소비자들이 로하스가치, 로하스 상품에 대한 신뢰, 만족, 재구매의도 간의 인과관계를 규명하고, 이들 관계가 로하스 소비자의 이타적 성향에 의해 체계적으로 변화되는지를 살펴보고자 시도되었다. 연구목적을 효과적으로 달성하기 위해 문헌 연구를 통해 관련 이론들을 고찰하여 연구모형을 설정하고 가설을 도출하였다. 이를 검증하기 위해 로하스 소비자를 대상으로 설문지에 의한 실증조사가 이루어졌다. 실증분석 결과는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 로하스 소비자의 로하스가치는 지속가능성, 환경친화성, 건강성으로 분류되는 다차원의 개념이다. 둘째, 소비자의 로하스가치 중 환경친화성과 건강성은 로하스 상품에 대한 신뢰와 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 소비자의 로하스 상품에 대한 신뢰와 만족은 그들의 재구매의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 소비자의 로하스 상품에 대한 신뢰는 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 넷째, 로하스 소비자의 이타적 성향은 로하스가치와 로하스 상품에 대한 신뢰 및 만족과의 관계를 부분적으로 체계적으로 변화시키는 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 로하스 제품 및 시장의 합리적 관리를 위해서는 우선적으로 로하스 가치를 추구하는 집단 혹은 이타적 성향이 높은 집단을 지속적으로 발굴하여, 이들을 표적으로 환경친환성과 건강성을 부각시킬 수 있는 커뮤니케이션전략이 요구됨을 시사한다. The present study is aimed to demonstrate the causal relationships among the perceived value of LOHAS by the consumers, who have experience of LOHAS, consumption, trust, satisfaction and repurchase intention, and in addition, to identify moderating effects of altruistic tendency in these relationships because of LOHAS products which emerg like a new consumption trend. In order to effectively achieve the objective, we built to the research model based on the literature reviews and derived the hypotheses. A total of 215 usable survey responses has been applied for the empirical analysis. The results indicated as follows. First, the perceived value of LOHAS was proved as a multi-dimensional concept with three subordinate concepts; perceived sustainability, perceived environmental friendliness and perceived health. Second, perceived environmental friendliness and perceived health of the perceived LOHAS value positively affected to trust and satisfaction. Third, consumers" trust and satisfaction for LOHAS products had positive impacts toward repurchase intention. And consumers" trust was positively associated with consumers" satisfaction for LOHAS products. Finally LOHAS consumers" altruistic tendency as moderators had a important role which is partly moderate the relationships between the perceived value-trust, and the perceived value-satisfaction.         The Nonlinear Equivalent Input Disturbance Coordinated Control for Enhancing the Stability of Hydraulic Generator System

        Hydraulic generator plays more important roles as a renewable clean energy in improving stability. As hydraulic generator enjoys strong nonlinear properties, traditional linearized control method may holds worse adaptability for vary disturbances. In order to solve the problem, a Nonlinear Equivalent Input Disturbance Coordinated Control (NEIDCC) method is proposed in this paper. The objective functions related to system control performance are frstly determined. Then the multi-objective equations satisfying the Brunovsky normal form are derived, by which the nonlinear control problem is transformed to linear space to be solved. The nonlinear equivalent control law is obtained from the linear law by calculating the Γ derivative of the objective functions. When the system is subjected to diferent disturbances, the designed NEIDCC control law supports dynamic damping by observing the disturbance to stabilize the oscillations. As a result, the control system holds good performance. The simulation results of the designed hydraulic turbine generator control system demonstrate the efectiveness of the NEIDCC method.
