Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune blistering disease that commonly involves the scalp. Lesions of pemphigus vulgaris that persist on the scalp for a long period may be accompanied by tufted hair folliculitis. Only two previous accounts of tufted hair folliculitis developing in a lesion of pemphigus vulgaris have been reported. We report a 51-year-old-man with erosions and clusters of hair on the scalp. The scalp lesion had persisted for about 20 years. A histopathological examination of the skin lesion on the scalp revealed separation of the epidermis and clusters of several adjacent hair follicles. The patient was diagnosed with persistent pemphigus vulgaris of the scalp showing features of tufted hair folliculitis. (Ann Dermatol 23(4) 523~525, 2011)

<P>We present a novel electrochemical cell lysis device to prepare DNA samples for lab-on-a-chip (LOC) applications. It utilizes the electrolysis of saline solution to generate hydroxide ions (OH<SUP>−</SUP>) at the cathode as alkaline lytic agents. Cathode and anode chambers are separated by a negatively-charged ion exchangeable polymer diaphragm to maintain the high pH level for efficient cell lysis in the cathode chamber, to prevent inflow of PCR-amplification inhibitors from the anode chamber, and to minimize binding of DNA molecules. Electric current flow and pH maintenance, which depended on the device design, were two important parameters of the device performance. After optimizing the design and visually confirming cell lysis of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells in a very short amount of time, we directly electrolyzed four bacterial cell types suspended in saline solution. Real-time PCR (qPCR) analysis showed that our device could lyse both gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial cells with higher efficiency than other common methods and could detect DNA on the microlitre scale. Our data demonstrate several advantages of the proposed device: absence of cell lysis chemicals and heating; no adverse effects on PCR amplification; low DNA loss; low voltage and power consumption; and rapid processing. Running title: Cases of anesthesia for extremely low birth weight infant. Extremely low birth weight infants (birth weight < 1000 g) are prone to various morbidities such as respiratory distress syndrome, intraventricular hemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia, patent ductus arteriosus, necrotizing enterocolitis and retinopathy. To accomplish successful anesthetic management, many precautions must be continuously taken during the operation. First, inspired oxygen concentration should be adjusted to avoid oxygen toxicity. Second, body temperature must be maintained adequately. Third, hemodynamic parameters should be kept stable. We report 2 cases of successful anesthetic management for extremely low birth weight infant who underwent ligation of patent ductus arteriosus at the neonatal intensive care unit.

The purpose of this study is to find the factor of public service innovation in the Participation Government. To achieve the purpose, we conducted survey public and expert opinion research and made quantitative analysis. The result of this research are as follows, First, reponsiveness is the most impact factor to public service innovation. Second, the reponsiveness is consist of the degree of improvement which public service, public administration efficiency, and use of public facilities. Finally, the key is to improve public service by developing government that deliver services in a transparent and accountable way.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We develop an advanced electrospinning process that uses an electrostatic spiral collecting coil and a converging coil to produce a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymer fiber with a nanometer-sized diameter. The electrostatic spiral collecting coil was used as a collector on which to deposit a continuous and aligned PAN polymer fiber, and the converging coil was used to adjust the collecting area of the fibers. The fiber bundles were continuously withdrawn from the spiral collector, and to estimate the behavior of the fibers, equipotential lines were calculated for the electrospinning system by using a 3D simulation program. A high-speed camera and a magnifying camera were used to observe the actual behavior of the fibers. In this study, the interval distance of the spiral collecting coil was adjusted to obtain bundles of with various diameters for use in various applications. The average diameter of the fibers is of about 250 nm, and the range of the average diameter of the bundles is between 30 μm and 120 μm. Among the fiber bundles, around 90 μm of the bundle was best well-aligned and its fracture force and strain strength were of around 80 mN and 12.6 MPa before the stabilization process.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Continuously aligned nano-fiber bundle was produced. </LI> <LI> Without change the fiber thickness, the diameter of fibers bundles were controlled. </LI> <LI> The mechanism of how diameter of the bundles were controlled. </LI> <LI> Roll to roll process for electrospinning nanofiber. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
