PVA/Algin blend films were prepared by solution blending method for the purpose of useful biodegradable polymer. Characteristics properties of blend films such as DSC, Elongation, Tensile strength and Morphological changes by SEM were determined. Tensile strength and Elongation were rapidly reduced as increasing the blend ratio of Algin. Blend films were found that phase separation was occured as more than 25wt% increasing the blend ratio of Algin. Blend films were observed to be less partially compatibility than 10wt% increasing the blend ratio of Algin by DSC, mechanical properties and SEM Also, Blend films at the laboratory soil test(Pot Test) were completely degraded in months with four kinds of soils by microganisms.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the association between statin use and the risk of major osteoporotic fractures in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Methods: A nested case-control study was performed in patients with MetS (≥50 years) who had no history of osteoporotic fracture using the Korean National Health Insurance Service- Health Screening Cohort. This study included 17,041 patients diagnosed with new-onset osteoporotic fractures and controls matched in a 1:1 ratio by age, sex, body mass index, cohort entry date, and follow-up duration. Conditional logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate covariate-adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: During a 4-year follow-up period, the risk of major osteoporotic fractures was significantly reduced by 9% (OR, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.85–0.97) in statin users compared with that in non-users. Among subtypes of major osteoporotic fracture, a risk reduction with statin therapy was significant for vertebral fracture (OR, 0.86; 95% CI, 0.79–0.94) but not for non-vertebral fracture (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.88–1.06). Longer duration (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.96–0.99, per 1-year increase) and higher cumulative dose (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.95–0.99, per 365 defined daily doses) of statins were negatively associated with the risk of major osteoporotic fracture. Conclusion: This study supports the hypothesis that statin therapy has a beneficial effect on major osteoporotic fractures, especially vertebral fractures, in patients with MetS.

<P>The long-term stability and superior device reliability through the use of delicately designed metal contacts with two-dimensional (2D) atomic-scale semiconductors are considered one of the critical issues related to practical 2D-based electronic components. Here, we investigate the origin of the improved contact properties of alloyed 2D metal semiconductor heterojunctions. 2D WSe2-based transistors with mixed transition layers containing van der Waals (M-vdW, NbSe2/WxNb1-xSe2/WSe2) junctions realize atomically sharp, interfaces, exhibiting long hot-carrier. :lifetimes of approximately 75,296 s (78 times longer than that of metal semiconductor, Pd/WSe2 junctions). Such dramatic lifetime enhancement in M-vdW-junctioned devices is attributed to the synergistic effects arising from the significant reduction in the number of defects and the Schottky barrier lowering at the interface. Formation of a controllable mixed-composition alloyed layer on the 2D active channel would be a breakthrough approach to maximize the electrical reliability of 2D nanomaterial-based electronic applications.</P>
Lumbar Intradural Extramedullary Non-Metastatic Carcinoid Tumor: A Case Report

Carcinoid or neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are slow-growing neoplasms originating from neuroendocrine cells. The central nervous system(CNS) involvement of carcinoid tumor, not only metastasis to CNS or primary originated, is reported rarely. This study presented a case of a primary spinal intradural extramedullary carcinoid tumor accompanied by urinary incontinence. CNS involvement in carcinoid tumors is rarely reported, and its intradural spinal metastasis or primary spinal NET is extremely rare. A 63-year-old woman came to hospital with urinary incontinence, and a 2.5-cm-sized intradural extramedullary mass was found at the lumbosacral level on spinal magnetic resonance imaging. The patient underwent L5-S2 laminectomy to remove the intradural extramedullary mass at the L5-S1 level. The patient recovered without complications, and there was progress in urinary incontinence. The patient did not complain of urinary incontinence after discharge, and no evidence of recurrence was observed after a 1-year follow-up

Mast cells are so widely recognized as critical effecter cells for allergic disorders and other immunoglobulin (lg) E-associated acquired immune responses. In addition, Mast cells play an essential role in an allergic inflammation, including asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis. This study was designed to evaluate whether the mixture of the Houttuynia cordata and Ulmus davidiana var. japonica water extracts mixture (HUM) could modulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. HUM inhibited compound 48/80-induced systemic reactions in mice. HUM decreased immunoglobulin Emediated local allergic reactions, passive cutaneous anaphylaxis. Furthermore, HUM attenuated the phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and calcium ionophore A23187-stimulated TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 secretion in HMC-1 cells stimulated by PMA plus A23187. In addition, HUM did not significantly affect the cell viability and had no toxicity on the HMC-1 cells. In the ratio of various HUM, HUM 7:3 showed significant inhibitory effects on allergic reaction in cell experiments as well as animal experiments. Based on these results, HUM can be used for treatment of an allergic inflammation response.
