The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in kinematic and kinetic parameters of the ankle and knee joint according to three landing direction(central, left, right). Fifteen collegiate male athletes(age: 22.7±3.5 years, height: 174.9±7.1 cm, weight: 69.4±6.7 kg) with the right leg as dominant were chosen. The subjects performed series of drop landings in three directions. In terms of the three different landing directions, plantar flexion was the greatest during the central drop landings. For each initial contact of the landing direction, plantar flexion of the ankle was greatest at the central drop landing, inversion of the ankle was greatest at the right landing and valgus of the knee was greatest at the left drop landing. Regarding the peak force, the greatest was at the 1st peak force during the central drop landing. For the time-span of the 2nd peak force and the 2-1 peak force, both right sides resulted as the greatest. Therefore, with the appropriate training in landing techniques and developing neuromuscular training for proprioception by taking the injury mechanisms on ankle and knee during drop landings into account, it will assist in preventing such injuries.

We have experienced acute hepatitis after general anesthesia. We guess that acute hepatitis is caused by enflurane anesthesia. We will report this case with references. A 34 year old pregnant woman suffered from preeclamsia. She admitted for emergence repeat cesarean-section due to labor pain. In this operation general anesthesia was performanced with enflurane. The preoperative liver enzyme were normal and other tests were within normal range. She developed high fever, marked elevation of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(SGOT)/serum glutamic pyrubic transaminase(SGPT)/ alkaline phosphatase(ALP)/total bilirunbin(T-B) on the 2nd postoperative day. She recovered gradually and discharged after 13 day's hospitalization. A possible cause of the acute hepatitis in this case were considered to be the enflurane.
Two-color Transient Grating Spectroscopy of a Two-level System

A theoretical description and experimental demonstration of homodyne-detected two-color transient grating (2-C TG) signal are presented. By treating the coupled bath degrees of freedom as a collection of harmonic oscillators and using a short-time expansion method, approximated nonlinear response functions were obtained. An analytic expression for the two-color transient grating signal was obtained by carrying out relevant Gaussian integrals. The initial rising and decaying parts of the 2-C TG signal is shown to be critically dependent on the ultrafast inertial component of the solvation correlation function. The experimental results confirm the predictions of the theoretical model.

The purpose of this study was to analyse knee movement and angular veloctiy with gender differences and landing height during landing. In this study, 24 participants(12 males, 12 females) dropped from a height of 30cm and 60cm. 8 vicon cameras and 1 force plate were used to anlayze the kinematic data. The results are followings: Females tended to contact the ground in a more knee extended position. Female also exhibited increased valgus and tibia internal rotation at Initial contact and PVGRF time at higher landing height. Third, Female exhibited increased maximum valgus, tibia internal rotation and maximum angular velocities with increased landing height compared to males. The results of this study showed that female might be predisposed to higher incidence of knee injury during landing. Gluteus medius and quadriceps strengthening program can be a important part to prevent injuries and consideration of these strengthening program is needed in sports activities.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of cutting direction on the ACL injury mechanism during cutting. Eighteen subjects who has the right leg dominant were participated in this study. We used vicon and force platform. The results were as follows. First, 90°cutting showed larger joint range of motion than 0 and 45° in sagittal and frontal plane. Second, 45 and 90°degree cutting showed increased moment compared to 0° cutting in extension. And tibia external rotation moment showed in sequence(0°< 45°< 90°). Third, 45 and 90° cutting showed increased absorption power compared to 0°. Finally, 90° cutting showed larger than 0°in anterior shear force. The finding of this study support as the cutting direction larger there was greater risk of ACL injury in knee joint. Therefore, we think it is necessary to train the athlete about this during training season.

Relationship between Functional Ankle Instability and Landing Pattern. Korean Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 00, No. 0, pp. 00-00, 2010. Functional ankle instability(FAI) usually appears after ankle sprain. But differences in landing patterns between stable ankle(SA) and FAI have not been determined. The purpose of this study was to compare differences in landing patterns with subject who has FAI and SA during drop landing. Through this study, we came to the conclusion that FAI affects on the movements of lower extremities and ground reaction force during drop landing from following results. First, when compared with SA, FAI group showed decreased maximal knee flexion(MKF) in sagittal plane of ankle, and increased inversion at initial contact(IC) and decreased inversion at MKF in frontal plane of the ankle. Second, FAI group showed decreased flexion at MKF and increased valgus at IC in frontal plane of the knee. Third, subjects with FAI showed increased flexion at IC in sagittal plane, decreased abduction at IC and increased adduction at MKF in hip. FAI group appeared to have higher GRF in all directions except posterior and lateral side of the ankle. Finally, FAI group showed higher medial-lateral excusion in COP. However, FAI group appeared to have lower power absorption in the ankle and the knee. Therefore, it is necessary to develop appropriate treatment paradigms for ankle sprain before FAI develops.

Patellofemoral pain syndrome is the most common problem involving the knee, accounting for 25% of knee injuries. Repetitive, overuse activities cause increased force at the patellofemoral joint, resulting in pain during flexion and extension activities. Most research have been conducted in exploring the patellofemoral compressive force in gait, squat and lunges, even though in real cases, possibilities in landing exist. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in patellofemoral compressive force according to two different height. Sixteen collegiate male students(age: 22.25 ± 3.30 yrs, height: 177.25 ± 4.44 cm, weight: 77.50 ± 8.18 kg) were chosen. The subjects performed drop landings in 45 cm, 60 cm. The findings demonstrated that higher height showed peak knee extension moment, quadriceps contraction force, patellofemoral compressive force with increased VGRF. Regarding the patellofemoral joint compressive force, it increased by quadriceps contraction force with knee flexion during landing, yet, it showed no difference in maximal knee flexion. To minimize patellofemoral joint stress and reduce the likelihood of developing PFPS, we recommend that predesigned quadriceps and hip muscle group strengthening are needed during conditioning and training.
