        Temperature dependence of effective thermal conductivity and effective thermal diffusivity of Se90In10 bulk chalcogenide glass

        Measurement of eective thermal conductivity (ke) and eective thermal diusivity (ve) of twin pellets of Se90In10 bulk chalcogenideglass has been carried out in the temperature range from 303 to 323 K and cooling from 323 to 303 K using transient plane source (TPS)technique. In the heating process variation of eective thermal conductivity (ke) and eective thermal diusivity (ve) is observed. Bothquantities are found to be maximum at 313 K, which lies in the vicinity of glass transition temperature (Tg). During the cooling processkeand ve remain same at all temperatures. Such type of behavior shows thermal hysteresis in this sample, which can be explained on thebasis of structural change of the Se90In10 bulk chalcogenide glass.

        Correlation between Meyer–Neldel rule and phase separation in Se98xZn2Inx chalcogenide glasses

        The present work reports the observation of Meyer–Neldel rule for the thermally activated crystallization of glassy Se98-xZn2Inx (0 ≼ x ≼ 10) alloys. We have observed a strong co-relation between the pre-exponential factor K0 of rate constant K(T) of crystallization and activation energy of crystallization Ec in the present case. This indicates the presence of compensation effect for the non-isothermal crystallization process in the present glassy system, which is explained in terms of phase separation of the present alloys due to flaw bonds of these amorphous solids.         Temporary Endoscopic Stimulation in Gastroparesis-like Syndrome

        Background/Aims Gastroparesis-like syndrome (GLS) is defined as gastroparesis-like symptoms with normal gastric scintigraphy. While the efficacy of gastric electrical stimulation (GES) in gastroparesis is well known, the utility of GES in GLS is largely unknown. Our aim was to clarify the role of GES in GLS. We implanted consecutive patients with symptoms of gastroparesis with temporary gastric electrical stimulation and observed changes in gastric scintigraphy and total symptom score. Methods Five hundred and fifty-one patients suffering from symptoms of gastroparesis (nausea, vomiting, bloating/distension, anorexia/ early satiety, and abdominal pain) with negative endoscopy underwent gastric scintigraphy with analysis of 1) solid radionuclide gastric emptying at 1, 2, and 4 hours (% remaining); 2) area under the gastric emptying curve (AUC) at 1, 2, and 4hours; and 3) total gastric emptying test (GET) (the sum of 1, 2, and 4 hour values). Patients were stratified into: delayed gastric emptying, normal gastric emptying, and rapid gastric emptying (Appendix). Of the 551 patients in the larger cohort, 379 had implantation of temporary gastric electrical stimulation (tGES). Gastrointestinal symptoms and gastric emptying were com - pared pre and post tGES implantation. Results After tGES, 2 hour gastric retention decreased (P < 0.01) for the delayed patients, and increased (P < 0.001) for normal and rapid patients. These changes were accompanied by improvements (P < 0.001) in vomiting, nausea, and total symptom scores in all 3 subgroups. Conclusions Gastric electrical stimulation may be an effective therapy for treating the symptoms of gastroparesis with normal gastric emptying.Further exploration of endoscopic electrical stimulation as a treatment for gastroparesis-like symptoms with non-delayed gastric emptying is needed.         Effect of sociodemographic variables on complete denture satisfaction

        PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sociodemographic factors on quality of satisfaction towards denture treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred subjects (filling inclusion criteria) who were wearing a denture for at least two months were enrolled and divided into five groups on the basis of sociodemographic variables (age, gender, literacy level, socio-economic and marital status). Questionnaires consisting of 38 questions (positive and negative attitude towards denture satisfaction) related to patients' perception of clinical outcome in different domains such as mastication, appearance, speech, comfort, health, denture care and social status were scored by the subjects. Questions reflecting positive attitude were scored as 2, 1, or 0 (yes, uncertain and no, respectively) and reversely for the negative questions. Statistical analysis was done by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (α = .05). RESULTS: Level of denture satisfaction was higher in age subgroup belonging to 45 - 65 years of age in relation to comfort, health and denture care. Female and male showed significant priority for denture treatment because of esthetic and function respectively. Level of satisfaction was statistically significant with literacy level. Upper high income group showed significantly higher level of satisfaction only in case of social status. Married group showed significantly higher satisfaction level only with comfort. CONCLUSION: Patients' sociodemographic variables were influential factors on denture satisfaction.

        Highly Efficient Photocatalytic Studies on Bi36 Fe2 O57 Ceramic Synthesized by Chemical Route

        Bi36 Fe2 O57 (BFO) polycrystalline ceramic was synthesized by economical chemical route. The single-phase formation of BFO ceramic was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction studies. Nanosized formation of BFO ceramics established by XRD and TEM analysis. The bimodal distribution of grain size is observed with size ranging from 50 to 600 nm. It observed that the Bi36 Fe2 O57 photocatalyst exhibited higher catalytic activity for the degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) under visible-light irradiation The oxidation state of elements present in the BFO ceramic, was confirmed by XPS studies. The pseudocapacitive nature of BFO ceramic was observed by cyclic Voltammetry. The dielectric constant of BFO ceramic was found 375 at 1 kHz at 300 K. The dielectric loss was found 0.51 at 100 kHz and 300 K.
