We propose a single-flux-quantum (SFQ) logic system based on the reactiondiffusion-collision fusion computation. The fusion computation is a way of digital processing that performs logic operation by applying analogy of nonlinear physical and chemical systems to the structure of the logic operation. It is very powerful for implementing a given digital operation with a small number of logic gates. A fusion computation system consists of regularly arrayed unit cells, where each cell has two input arms and two output arms and is connected to its neighboring cells with the arms. Each cell accepts two input signals A and B and produces two output signals AB and AB. A fusion computation system, as a whole, can operate any combinational logic function. We designed functional SFQ circuits that implemented the fusion computation. The unit cell was able to be made with ten Josephson junctions. Circuit simulation showed that SFQ fusion computation systems could operate at very high speed, about ten times faster than conventional CMOS logic systems.
Stability Control of Small Kite Balloon with Tensioned Anchoring Rope

A small captive balloon have been studied in order to get the information of local meteorology. We have tried to keep the designed altitude of a small captive balloon against the wind drag by controlling attack angle generating its lift force. Then the geometry of an ellipsoid has been focused for the balloon body rather than a spheroid that was used generally. The controlling attack angle is a passive way where elastic extendable cables are used to limit the inclination of balloon. The characteristics of cables were properly selected in order that the balloon could have the effective attack angle against the wide wind velocity. The controlling technique worked well unless the balloon was caught by unstable flow like a gust. In this study, we propose a method to keep the altitude of a captive balloon by the above technique in stable flow, and by changing tension of the anchoring rope periodically in unstable flow. Some artifices including a small change of the balloon geometry increased the stability of the attitude, and the successive tensioning was effective to restrain the rolling and falling. of the balloon in severely unsteady flow.

Recent strategies for treating CML patients have focused on investigating new combinations of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as well as identifying novel translational research agents that can eradicate CML leukemia‐initiating cells (CML‐LICs). However, little is known about the therapeutic benefits such CML‐LIC targeting therapies might bring to CML patients. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic potential of EW‐7197, an orally bioavailable transforming growth factor‐β signaling inhibitor which has recently been approved as an Investigational New Drug (NIH, USA), to suppress CML‐LICs in vivo. Compared to TKI treatment alone, administration of TKI plus EW‐7197 to CML‐affected mice significantly delayed disease relapse and prolonged survival. Notably, combined treatment with EW‐7197 plus TKI was effective in eliminating CML‐LICs even if they expressed the TKI‐resistant T315I mutant BCR‐ABL1 oncogene. Collectively, these results indicate that EW‐7197 may be a promising candidate for a new therapeutic that can greatly benefit CML patients by working in combination with TKIs to eradicate CML‐LICs.

Malignant mixed tumor in the salivary gland of a cat

The presence of a malignant mixed tumor, also known as a carcinosarcoma, in the salivary gland is very rare. Such tumors, which are typically aggressive, are characterized by the presence of carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. A 9-year-old neutered female domestic short-haired cat presented with swelling in the right mandibular lesion that had rapidly enlarged over the previous 3 weeks. Physical examination revealed a large, fluctuated and painless subcutaneous swelling that was associated with a firm mass. Radiographs of the head revealed a soft-tissue density that involved faint circular calcific opacity. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed that the peripheral capsulated cystic area had a contrast enhanced region without bone lysis. The cat received a total excision of the mass and postoperative radiotherapy. Histopathological analysis of the mass revealed that it was a malignant mixed tumor. Metastasis to the lung was discovered 7 weeks later, at which time treatment was stopped.
