Spraying efficacy of distilled water (DW), acidic electrolyzed oxidizing water (AEOW), or alkalic electrolyzed reducing water (AERW) alone and successive spraying of AEOW followed by AERW or vice versa on controlling powdery mildew infection (PMI) with suppressing visible physiological disorder on cucumber (Cucumis sativus) leaves (Experiment I)and the seedlings leaves (Experiment II) were investigated. The severity of PMI and visible physiological disorder on the leaves sprayed with the AERW followed by AEOW were suppressed at the last observation day compared to the solitary spraying of AEOW. The visible physiological disorder on the seedlings leaves caused by the spraying of AEOW can be suppressed by the successive spraying of AEOW followed by AERW without suppression of leaf area and dry weight of aerial parts. At the seedling stage, successive spraying of AEOW followed by AERW is recommended for controlling PMI and avoiding physiological disorder without suppression of seedling growth.

We investigated the effects of photosynthetic active radiation generated by blue (465 nm peak wavelength) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), red (625 nm peak wavelength) LEDs, or an electroluminescent sheet (EL) (two peak wavelengths: 454 and 565 nm), and dark conditions on the quality preservation of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) seedlings during low-light irradiation (LLI) storage. The photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) at the plant canopy level was automatically controlled using a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller to maintain the CO2 exchange rate of the seedlings at zero. Nine seedlings were stored for 21 d in a storage case at 10 ± 0.5°C and at greater than 95% RH. The total dry weight of the tomato seedlings after storage under any LLI was significantly greater compared to that before storage and during dark storage. The PPFD required for maintaining the CO2 exchange rate of the seedlings at zero under all LLI treatments over a 21 d storage period gradually decreased dueto the low-light adaptation of the plant. The mean PPFDs to maintain a light compensation point under the blue LED-, red LED-, and EL-LLI for the last week of storage were 5.15, 5.03, and 5.20 μmol·m-2·s-1, respectively. The spectral distribution of the EL light may help preserve seedling quality better than that of the blue or red LED lights and the dark condition, providing a vigorous seedlings with upright morphology and significantly lower specific leaf area (cm2·g-1 DW), which reflects a thick leaf. For green plant storage, an EL or other kind of mixed light is able to control PPFD automatically, which may help maintain seedling quality for more than 3 weeks longer than withblue or red monochromatic light.

Leaves respond to the photosynthetic photon fl ux density (PPFD) and accordingly adjust their morphological and physiologicalproperties, including leaf mass per area (LMA) and the chlorophyll (chl) a/b ratio. These responses are called light acclimationresponses. Although the properties that are responsive to high or low constant PPFD levels have been well described,the extent of the responses to changing PPFD, as observed in open fi elds and greenhouses, remains insuffi ciently quantifi ed. In this study, we quantitatively investigated the eff ects of changes among three PPFD levels (100, 400, and 700 μmol m −2 s −1 )over six days (constant within each day) on leaf light acclimation responses in cucumber ( Cucumis sativus ) seedlings. Weintroduced a time-weighted average PPFD ( L w ), in which the eff ect of the PPFD in the earlier growth period was given lessweight, and demonstrated a signifi cant linear regression of parameters of the leaf light acclimation responses including theLMA, chl a / b ratio, maximum rate of carboxylation capacity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase ( V c max ) andmaximum rate of electron transport ( J max ) on L w . The result showed that the linear regression model with L w well explainedthe light acclimation responses of leaves to the day-to-day changes in daily PPFD and it estimated these response parametersmore accurately than a model with an average PPFD.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of 4 main types of gastrectomy for proximal gastric cancer on postoperative symptoms, living status, and quality of life (QOL) using the Postgastrectomy Syndrome Assessment Scale-45 (PGSAS-45). Materials and Methods: We surveyed 1,685 patients with upper one-third gastric cancer who underwent total gastrectomy (TG; n=1,020), proximal gastrectomy (PG; n=518), TG with jejunal pouch reconstruction (TGJP; n=93), or small remnant distal gastrectomy (SRDG; n=54). The 19 main outcome measures (MOMs) of the PGSAS-45 were compared using the analysis of means (ANOM), and the general QOL score was calculated for each gastrectomy type. Results: Patients who underwent TG experienced the lowest postoperative QOL. ANOM showed that 10 MOMs were worse in patients with TG. Four MOMs improved in patients with PG, while 1 worsened. One MOM was improved in patients with TGJP versus 8 MOMs in patients with SRDG. The general QOL scores were as follows: SRDG (+39 points), TGJP (+6 points), PG (+3 points), and TG (−1 point). Conclusions: The TG group experienced the greatest decline in postoperative QOL. SRDG and PG, which preserve part of the stomach without compromising curability, and TGJP, which is used when TG is required, enhance the postoperative QOL of patients with proximal gastric cancer. When selecting the optimal gastrectomy method, it is essential to understand the characteristics of each and actively incorporate guidance to improve postoperative QOL.

본 연구는 저광 조사 저온 저장 중 광합성유효방사(PAR)내의 각 파장이 토마토 묘의 형태와 엽색 변화에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 실시되었다. 10±0.5℃의 온도와 피크 파장이 각각 405, 450, 505, 545, 600, 645, 680, 700 ㎚의 발광다이오드로부터 조사된 3μ㏖ m<SUP>-2</SUP> s<SUP>-1</SUP>의 광합성유효광량 자속밀도 조건에서 토마토 접목묘를 28일간 저장하였다. 405, 450, 505 ㎚의 파장에서 저장된 묘의 잎은 다른 파장에서 저장된 잎에 비해 직립하는 경향을 보였으며, 특히 450과 505 ㎚파장에서 저장된 묘의 경우 엽축 생장이 억제되면서 콤팩트한 형태를 보였다. 파장의 변화에 따른 엽색의 규칙적인 변화는 저장 전후를 비교하여 관찰되지 않았으나, 405와 700 ㎚ 파장에서 저장된 묘는 엷은 녹색을 나타내었다. 저광 조사 저온 저장 중, 450~545 ㎚ 영역의 광조사는 토마토 묘의 직립을 유도하여 외관상 건강한 묘로 인정 받는데 기여할 것으로 기대된다. To investigate the effects of different wavelengths of photosynthetically active radiation on the morphology and leaf color changes of a single tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) seedling, we stored the seedling at 10±0.5℃ under eight different wavelengths (peak wavelengths; 405, 450, 505, 545, 600, 645, 680, and 700 ㎚) with a constant photosynthetic photon flux of 3 μ㏖ m<SUP>-2</SUP> S<SUP>-1</SUP> for 28 d. Under the 405, 450, and 505 ㎚ wavelength conditions, the leaves of the seedlings showed vigorous shape with an upright morphology. Rachis elongation was suppressed and hence compact appearance was observed under the 450 and 505 ㎚ conditions. Although the difference in leaf color between before storage and on 28 days after storage was observed under all wavelength conditions, the 405 and 700 ㎚ irradiations changed the leaf color to light green. Application of light-emitting diode (LED) light irradiated from around 450 to 545 ㎚ can contribute to vigorous shape with an upright morphology of tomato seedlings during low light irradiation-low temperature storage.
