Development of In-Pipe Robot Capable of Coping with Various Diameters
Kaname Sato,Taku Ohki,Hun-ok Lim 제어로봇시스템학회 2011 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2011 No.10
This paper describes a robot capable of inspecting a pipe. The robot is composed of units and connecting links. Three or more units are combined for the robot to move in a straight pipe, while four or more units are needed to move and turn in a divergent pipe. It is also able to with pipes with different diameters by adjusting to the number of units. Several experiments are conducted in the pipes with different diameters, and the effectiveness of the mechanism of the robot is confirmed.

Purpose: Endoscopic diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC) that emerges after eradication of Helicobacter pylori may be affected by unique morphological changes. Using comprehensive endoscopic imaging, which can reveal biological alterations in gastric mucosa after eradication, previous studies demonstrated that Congo red chromoendoscopy (CRE) might clearly show an acid non-secretory area (ANA) with malignant potential, while autofluorescence imaging (AFI) without drug injection or dyeing may achieve early detection or prediction of GC. We aimed to determine whether AFI might be an alternative to CRE for identification of high-risk areas of gastric carcinogenesis after eradication. Materials and Methods: We included 27 sequential patients with metachronous GC detected during endoscopic surveillance for a mean of 82.8 months after curative endoscopic resection for primary GC and eradication. After their H. pylori infection status was evaluated by clinical interviews and 13C-urea breath tests, the consistency in the extension of corpus atrophy (e.g., open-type or closed-type atrophy) between AFI and CRE was investigated as a primary endpoint. Results: Inconsistencies in atrophic extension between AFI and CRE were observed in 6 of 27 patients, although CRE revealed all GC cases in the ANA. Interobserver and intraobserver agreements in the evaluation of atrophic extension by AFI were significantly less than those for CRE. Conclusions: We demonstrated that AFI findings might be less reliable for the evaluation of gastric mucosa with malignant potential after eradication than CRE findings. Therefore, special attention should be paid when we clinically evaluate AFI findings of background gastric mucosa after eradication (University Hospital Medical Information Network Center registration number: UMIN000020849).

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of ovarian stimulation regimens on the top-quality blastocyst development rate and perinatal outcomes with the freeze-all strategy. Methods: A retrospective comparative cohort analysis of 149 in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles using the freeze-all strategy was conducted. The IVF cycles were stimulated with either a gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist or clomiphene citrate along with gonadotropin based on the patient's serum anti-Müllerian hormone level. Oocyte retrieval, fertilization, and embryo culture were performed following standard procedures. All good-quality blastocysts were cryopreserved and used for frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) in subsequent cycles. The fertilization, blastulation, and top-quality blastocyst development rates were calculated. The perinatal outcomes of FET cycles, gestational period, and birth weight were assessed. Results: The main outcome of this study was the top-quality blastocyst development rate, and the secondary outcomes were perinatal parameters (e.g., gestational period and birth weight) between the stimulation regimens. Despite the higher number of usable-quality embryos in the antagonist group, the blastocyst development rate remained comparable (p=0.105). Similarly, perinatal outcomes were comparable in subsequent FET cycles (p=0.538). Conclusion: These findings suggest that the choice between antagonist and clomiphene citrate with gonadotropin as stimulation in controlled ovarian stimulation regimens may not affect the top-quality blastocyst development rate. The IVF outcomes (e.g., clinical pregnancy, miscarriage, and live birth rates) remained unaffected in subsequent FET cycles. Unlike fresh embryo transfer, the birth weight and gestational length were not associated with prior controlled ovarian stimulation regimens when the freeze-all strategy was used.

Surface structure and molecular orientation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) formed by the spontaneous adsorption of tetrahydrothiophene (THT) and thiophene (TP) on Au(111) were investigated by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and carbon K-edge near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy. STM imaging revealed that THT SAMs have a commensurate (3 × 2√3) structure containing structural defects in ordered domains, whereas TP SAMs are composed of randomly adsorbed domains and paired molecular row domains that can be described as an incommensurate packing structure. The NEXAFS spectroscopy study showed that the average tilt angle of the aliphatic THT ring and π-conjugated TP ring in the SAMs were calculated to be about 30o and 40o, respectively, from the surface normal. It was also observed that the π* transition peak in the NEXAFS spectrum of the TP SAMs is very weak, suggesting that a strong interaction between π-electrons and the Au surface arises during the self-assembly of TP molecules. In this study, we have clearly demonstrated that the surface structure and adsorption orientation of organic SAMs on Au(111) are strongly influenced by whether the cyclic ring is saturated or unsaturated.
