      • Epitaxial growth of WO3 nanoneedles achieved using a facile flame surface treatment process engineering of hole transport and water oxidation reactivity

        Shi, Xinjian,Cai, Lili,Choi, Il Yong,Ma, Ming,Zhang, Kan,Zhao, Jiheng,Kim, Jung Kyu,Kim, Jong Kyu,Zheng, Xiaolin,Park, Jong Hyeok The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Journal of Materials Chemistry A Vol.6 No.40

<P>Charge carrier dynamics and light harvesting ability are most important for the performance of a photoanode in photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems. In this work, through a facile flame surface treatment process in a reducing atmosphere, oriented WO3 nanoneedles are grown on pre-formed vertically aligned nanohelices. Nanohelices have excellent light harvesting abilities on their own; however, the addition of nanoneedles to the top of nanohelices increases the light harvesting abilities even further. More importantly, the reducing atmosphere for the post-treatment process enhances the metallic properties of WO3, changes the band position to facilitate hole transport, and modifies the flat band potential, all of which contribute to an improved performance in terms of photocurrent density and onset. The as-fabricated WO3 nanohelices/nanoneedles with a metallic interface have also been used for heterojunction photoanode fabrication for water oxidation through two- and four-electron pathways for H2O2 and O2 production, respectively.</P>

Ozone and Daily Mortality Rate in 21 Cities of East Asia: How Does Season Modify the Association?

        Chen, Renjie,Cai, Jing,Meng, Xia,Kim, Ho,Honda, Yasushi,Guo, Yue Leon,Samoli, Evangelia,Yang, Xin,Kan, Haidong Oxford University Press 2014 American Journal of Epidemiology Vol.180 No.7

<P>Previous studies in East Asia have revealed that the short-term associations between tropospheric ozone and daily mortality rate were strongest in winter, which is opposite to the findings in North America and Western Europe. Therefore, we investigated the season-varying association between ozone and daily mortality rate in 21 cities of East Asia from 1979 to 2010. Time-series Poisson regression models were used to analyze the association between ozone and daily nonaccidental mortality rate in each city, testing for different temperature lags. The best-fitting model was obtained after adjustment for temperature in the previous 2 weeks. Bayesian hierarchical models were applied to pool the city-specific estimates. An interquartile-range increase of the moving average concentrations of same-day and previous-day ozone was associated with an increase of 1.44% (95% posterior interval (PI): 1.08%, 1.80%) in daily total mortality rate after adjustment for temperature in the previous 2 weeks. The corresponding increases were 0.62% (95% PI: 0.08%, 1.16%) in winter, 1.46% (95% PI: 0.89%, 2.03%) in spring, 1.60% (95% PI: 1.03%, 2.17%) in summer, and 1.12% (95% PI: 0.73%, 1.51%) in fall. We found significant associations between short-term exposure to ozone and higher mortality rate in East Asia that varied considerably from season to season with a significant trough in winter.</P>

Microcrystal Structure and C/O Element Occurrence State of Diesel PM by Non-Thermal Plasma Oxidation at Different Reaction Temperatures

        Lu Yirui,Shi Yunxi,Cai Yi-xi,Fan Runlin,Zhu Lei,Zhu Kan 한국자동차공학회 2021 International journal of automotive technology Vol.22 No.6

To reveal the effect of reaction temperature on the reduction of diesel particulate matter (PM) by non-thermal plasma (NTP) using oxygen as a gas source. The changes in the microcrystalline structure and the elemental state of PM before and after NTP oxidation at different temperatures were explored by Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. After NTP oxidation, the disorder in the PM microcrystal structure and the amorphous carbon structure was reduced. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the D1 and D3 peaks decreased, and the FWHM of the G peak increased slightly. During the oxidation of PM, the carbon microcrystals grew and became restructured, and the graphitization of PM increased. After NTP oxidation, the content of O in PM increased as the reaction temperature increased, resulting in a gradual change in the binding form of O with C from C-O to C=O. The ability of temperature rise to promote the oxidation activity of NTP was gradually weakened for the thermal decomposition of NTP active substances. The microcrystalline structure and the occurrence state of C and O of PM changed with reaction temperature, indicating that the oxidizability of NTP on PM differed at different reaction temperatures.

Grey fuzzy PI control for packing pressure during injection molding process

Shuo Wang,Ji Ying,Zichen Chen,Kan Cai 대한기계학회 2011 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.25 No.4

This study presents a grey fuzzy PI (GFPI) controller for packing pressure control during the injection process. The novel controller was designed for solving the problems of large overshoot, static error, and long delay time on servo motor-driven injection molding machines. Based on reasonable assumptions, a mathematical model of injection system was established. According to the nonlinear, severe interferences, and long delay time characteristics in injection process, this paper integrates predictive grey system, robust fuzzy ratiocination, and PI control. Using these mathematical model and control algorithms, a GFPI controller is implemented into an MCU using C programming techniques. The integral discrete PID controller and solid fuzzy controller were realized for contrast experiments. The experimental results show that GFPI controller had better performance on reducing overshoot and static error, increasing both response rate and repeatable accuracy. Such a developed technology would provide helpful references for designing the controller of energy-saving servo motor-driven injection molding equipment.

m6A writer gene fl(2)d regulates the metamorphosis of silkworm Bombyx mori

        Huang Qunxia,Huo Chunyue,Qian Yuxin,Zhao Chenyue,Cai Zhiyan,Zhang Kun,Zhao Xuhui,Guo Shigang,Kan Yunchao,Li Dandan 한국응용곤충학회 2023 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.26 No.4

The N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is one of the most abundant posttranscriptional modifications on RNAs, which is mediated by its effector proteins—writers, readers, and erasers. Female-Lethal(2)D (Fl(2)d) is one of the key writers to stabilize the interaction between another two writers Methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) and Methyltransferase-like 14 (METTL14). Here with dsRNA transfection, fl(2)d was knocked down in the BmN4 cell lines of silkworm, the expression of 61 genes were significantly increased, and 86 genes were significantly decreased after fl(2)d repression, which encoded proteins related to catalytic, hydrolase activity or in metabolism of nucleic acid. To elucidate the functional role of fl(2)d during silkworm development, dsRNA of which was injected into the hemolymph of the 2-d-old fourth instar larvae, the mounting process of silkworm was delayed, the expression level of genes in metabolism, RNA processing and ecdysone signaling pathway decreased significantly after fl(2)d knockdown, such as genes encoded Ubiquitin protein ligase E3C, the nuclear pore complex protein Nup98-Nup96, and the m6A reader YTHDF3, as well as Broad Complex isoform 2 (BRC-Z2), Fushi Tarazu Factor-1 (FTZ-F1), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and the ecdysone-induced protein 74EF isoform A (E74A). Total m6A level of RNAs also decreased after fl(2)d repression. These indicated that decreased level of fl (2)d and YTHDF3 decay the m6A level and translation of their target genes, which might lead to the retardation of metamorphosis, and resulted in the delayed mounting of silkworm.
