• S-443 : Nilotinib-induced interstitial lung disease

( Un Seok Lee ),( Se Il Go ),( Won Sup Lee ),( Gyeong Won Lee ),( Jung Hun Kang ),( Myung Hee Kang ),( Jeong Hee Lee ),( Hoon Gu Kim ) 대한내과학회 2013 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2013 No.1

Nilotinib is a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor active in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) resistant to imatinib, and has been recently approved for newly diagnosed patients. We present a case of nilotinib-induced interstitial lung disease (ILD). A 67-year-old female patient was initially treated with imatinib for chronic-phase Philadelphia chromosomepositive (Ph+) CML. Imatinib was replaced by nilotinib because of hematological toxicity. The patient had received nilotinib for about 3 years without significant adverse effects. She visited the clinic due to chronic cough; chest X-ray revealed consolidations in both lung fields. Nilotinib-induced ILD was diagnosed based on intensive workup, including lung biopsy. She responded dramatically to corticosteroid therapy. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of nilotinib-induced ILD in a patient with Ph+ CML. We emphasize that if unexplained lung abnormalities progress in patients receiving nilotinib, physicians should consider this potentially fatal complication in their differential diagnoses.

      • S-477 : Solitary Abdominal Tuberculous Lymphadenopathy Misdiagnosed as the Recurrence of Ovarian Cancer

( Un Seok Lee ),( Won Sup Lee ),( Gyeong Won Lee ),( Jung Hun Kang ),( Myung Hee Kang ),( Se Il Go ),( Anna Lee ),( Hoon-gu Kim ) 대한내과학회 2013 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2013 No.1

Monitoring cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) serum levels is very useful for determining how epithelial ovarian cancer is responding to treatment and for predicting a patient`s prognosis after treatment. An increase in CA-125 levels within patients in a remission is a strong predictor of the recurrence of ovarian cancer. However, while CA-125 is best known as a tumor marker for ovarian cancer, it may also be elevated in other various malignancies and in some benign conditions such as peritonitis, pancreatitis, chronic liver diseases, pelvic inflammatory diseases, or endometriosis. We describe herein a case of solitary intra-abdominal tuberculous lymphadenopathy mimicking a local relapse of epithelial ovarian cancer. A 51-year-old woman presented with progressive rise in serum CA-125. She had been diagnosed with advanced epithelial ovarian malignancy and undergone debulking surgery about 4 years ago. She had been given platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy and achieved complete remission (CR). During regular follow-up in CR, a progressive rise in serum CA-125 was detected. The abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a cystic mass, 3.6 cm in diameter, located adjacent to the right common iliac artery, suggesting a metastatic lymph node. We had planned second-look operation in settings of suspected focal recurrence of ovarian cancer, supported by evidence of rising CA-125 levels. However, the suspected tuberculous lesion was detected incidentally on preoperative chest CT. The patient had no symptoms and signs associated with tuberculosis (TB) and chest X-ray was also normal. We postponed the planned second-look operation and anti-TB medication was started. Mycobacterium TB was identified on culture of sputum specimens later. During anti-TB medication, the suspected metastatic isolated intra-abdominal lymphadenopathy improved and serum CA-125 level was also normalized. We emphasize here to consider not only the recurrence or progression of ovarian cancer itself but also benign conditions including TB in their differential diagnoses, when serum CA-125 level increases during the follow-up of epithelial ovarian cancer patients.

Effects of Fermented Cottonseed and Soybean Meal with Phytase Supplementation on Gossypol Degradation, Phosphorus Availability, and Growth Performance of Olive Flounder : Paralichthys olivaceus

Se Jin Lim,Sung Sam Kim,Minh Anh Pham,Jin Woo Song,Ji Hoon Cha,Jin Dong Kim,Jung Un Kim,Kyeong Jun Lee 한국수산과학회 2010 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.13 No.4

To reduce anti-nutritional factors in plant protein sources for fish meal replacement in fish feeds, cottonseed and soybean meal (CS) were fermented with Aspergillus oryzae. A feeding trial was conducted to verify the effects of fermented CS (FCS) with phytase supplementation on gossypol detoxification, phosphorus digestibility, antioxidant activity, and growth performance of juvenile olive flounder over 10 weeks. Four diets were formulated to replace 0, 30, or 40% fish meal protein with CS or FCS (designated as CS0, CS30, FCS30P, and FCS40P). Phytase (1,000 FTU/kg) was added to FCS30P and FCS40P. The microbial fermentation significantly increased dietary total polyphenols and consequently led to higher DPPH radical-scavenging activities in fish feed and fish tissue. Dietary and liver gossypol concentrations were dramatically decreased by the fermentation process. Phosphorus digestibility was significantly increased in fish fed the FCS40P diet. However, growth performance decreased in fish fed FCS diets. This study demonstrates that the fermentation process and phytase supplementation can improve the phosphorus availability of plant protein sources in fish. The fermentation of CS by A. oryzae could increase antioxidant activities in feed and fish and effectively degrade toxic gossypol in cottonseed meal.

일반논문 : 청소년의 자살생각과 보호요인에 대한 메타분석

홍세희 ( Se Hee Hong ),노언경 ( Un Kyung No ),정송 ( Song Jung ) 한국조사연구학회 2016 조사연구 Vol.17 No.1

The purpose of this study was to perform meta analysis about the relationship between adolescents’ suicidal ideation and protective factors (i.e., self-esteem in individual system, positive parenting attitude in family system, attachment of friends in peer system, teacher’s support in school system). Effect sizes in terms of Hedges’s g were computed using studies published in Korea till 2014. Based on random-effect model, mean effect size was estimated and meta-regression was conducted using moderator variables(i.e. study characteristics) to find heterogeneities of the effect sizes. Finally, publication bias was evaluated. Results showed that, among the protective factors, self-esteem had the largest effect size (-.970), followed by positive parenting attitude(-.519), teacher’s support(-.430), and attachment of friends(-.389). According to metaregression, the effects of moderator variables were different across the protective factors. There was no publication bias except for attachment of friends. Through these results, it can be possible to develop systematic intervention strategies to prevent adolescents’ suicidal ideation.

Peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis due to Halomonas hamiltonii : A first case report

        Yeo, Se Hwan,Kwak, Jae Hoon,Kim, Yeo Un,Lee, Jin Suk,Kim, Hyo Jin,Park, Kyoung Hwa,Lee, Jung Sook,Ha, Gyoung Yim,Lee, Jeong Ho,Lee, Jun Yeop,Yoo, Kyung Don Williams & Wilkins Co 2016 Medicine Vol.95 No.47

Abstract

Introduction:

Halomonas hamiltonii is a Gram-negative, halophilic, motile, and nonspore-forming rod bacterium. Although most Halomonas sp. are commonly found in saline environments, it has rarely been implicated as a cause of human infection. Herein, the authors present a case report of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)-related peritonitis attributed to H hamiltonii.

Case presentation:

An 82-year-old male patient who had been receiving CAPD therapy presented to an emergency department with complaints of abdominal pain and cloudy dialysate that had persisted for 2 days. The peritoneal dialysate was compatible with CAPD peritonitis, with white blood cell count of peritoneal effluent of 810/mm3 and neutrophils predominated (60%). Two days after culture on blood agar medium, nonhemolytic pink mucoid colonies showed, with cells showing Gram-negative, nonspore-forming rods with a few longer and larger bacilli than usual were found. We also performed biochemical tests and found negative responses in K/K on the triple sugar iron test and H2S and equivocal (very weak) response in the motility test, but positive responses to catalase, oxidase, and urease tests. The partial sequence of the 16S rRNA gene of a bacterium detected by peritoneal fluid culture was utilized for a Basic Local Alignment Search Tool search, which revealed that the organism was H hamiltonii. Intraperitoneal antibiotics were administered for 21 days, and the patient was discharged without clinical problems.

Conclusion:

We present here the first case report of CAPD-related peritonitis caused by H hamiltonii, which was identified using molecular biological techniques. Although guidelines do not exist for the treatment of infections caused by this organism, conventional treatment for Gram-negative organisms could be effective.

Electromechanical properties of graphene transparent conducting films for flexible electronics

        Yong Un Jung,Se-in Oh,좌성훈,Han-Ki Kim,강성준 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.7

We report a systematic study of the electromechanical properties of graphene films for flexible transparent conducting electrodes. The flexibility of graphene films, which were grown using a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method and transfer process on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates, was investigated using a lab-made inner/outer bending, twisting and stretching test system. The electromechanical properties as a function of the change of bending radius, twisting angle and strain distance were evaluated by measuring the change in resistance. The change in resistance during the inner bending test was less than 8% even when the bending radius was 3 mm. Additionally, the results of the inner bending fatigue test showed a constant resistance throughout 2000 bending cycles. However, in the outer bending test, the resistance increased substantially when the bending radius was smaller than 10 mm. Therefore, we can expect that more cracks form between the grains of graphene during the outer bending test. The twistability and stretchability of the graphene film were also investigated. Both twisting and stretching tests show gradually increasing resistances according to the twisting angle and stretching distance. These results provide useful information regarding the electromechanical properties of graphene transparent conducting films for the development of flexible electronics.
