A Study on Recognition and Demands of Forest Interpretation Programs: Focused on Jinju City and Gyeongnam Region

        Nara Lee,Keun Young Huh,Jonghoon Park 한국인간·식물·환경학회 2017 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.20 No.4

The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition and demands of forest interpretation programs. Questionnaire survey was carried out to estimate the awareness, necessity, future participation intent, experience, satisfaction and demands of forest interpretation programs with 100 residents living in Jinju city or Gyeongnam region. The data were subject to frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and path analysis. Overall 63% of respondents didn’t know forest interpretation programs, but 52% of respondents recognized the necessity of forest interpretation programs. 52% of respondents had the future participate intent of forest interpretation programs, and 38.3% didn’t know if they would participate. 74% of respondents had never experienced the programs. In the satisfaction, 80% of respondents who experienced showed neutral. Future participation intent was highly correlated with necessity as shown in the result of correlation analysis among awareness, necessity, future participation intent, and experience of forest interpretation programs. Also future participation intent in path analysis was estimated to be affected indirectly by experience and awareness as well as necessity. Enhancement of future participation intent would be achieved by increasing experience, awareness, and necessity of forest interpretation programs. According to the demands, forest interpreters were required to have the expertise to provide knowledge and information of forests. Attractive content for forest interpretation programs was in the order of recreational activities > forest conservation > education while the proper objective of forest interpretation programs was experience and interest > education > conservation and resource > public relation of forests and parks. Respondents preferred participation and experience the most as a style in selecting the programs. Key condition in selecting the venue was diversity > safety > connectivity > accessibility in order. There was no significantly different preference in proper participation duration or operation season for the activities of forest interpretation programs.

Microfluidic Image Cytometry (μFIC) Assessments of Silver Nanoparticle Cytotoxicity

Jonghoon Park,Tae Hyun Yoon 대한화학회 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.12

Cytotoxicity assessment of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was performed using MTT-based microfluidic image cytometry (μFIC). The LC50 value of HeLa cells exposed to AgNPs in the microfluidic device was estimated as 46.7 mg/L, which is similar to that estimated by MTT-based IC for cells cultured in a 96 well plate (49.9 mg/ L). These results confirm that the μFIC approach can produce cytotoxicity data that is reasonably well-matched with that of the conventional 96 well plate system with much higher efficiency. This μFIC method provides many benefits including ease of use and low cost, and is a more rapid in vitro cell based assay for AgNPs. This may aid in speeding up data acquisition in the field of nanosafety and make a significant contribution to the quantitative understanding of nanoproperty- toxicity relationships.

Using physical activity levels to estimate energy requirements of female athletes

( Jonghoon Park ) 한국운동영양학회 2019 Physical Activity and Nutrition (Phys Act Nutr) Vol.23 No.4

[Purpose] The goal of this study was to review data on physical activity level (PAL), a crucial index for determining estimated energy requirement (EER), calculated as total energy expenditure (TEE, assessed with doubly labeled water [DLW]) divided by resting metabolic rate (RMR, PAL = TEE/RMR) in female athletes and to understand the methods of assessing athletes’ EERs in the field. [Methods] For the PAL data review among female athletes, we conducted a PubMed search of the available literature related to the DLW method. DLW studies measuring TEE and RMR were included for the present review. [Results] Briefly, the mean PAL was 1.71 for collegiate swimmers with moderate training, which was relatively low, but the mean PAL was 3.0 for elite swimmers during summer training camp. This shows that PAL can largely vary even within the same sport depending on the amount of training, and the differences in PAL were remarkable depending on the sport. Aside from the DLW method, there is currently no research tool related to athletes’ EERs that can be used in the field. [Conclusion] Briefly, the mean PAL was 1.71 for collegiate swimmers with moderate training, which was relatively low, but the mean PAL was 3.0 for elite swimmers during summer training camp. Wire-suspended dynamical system: stability analysis by tension-closure

        Park, Jonghoon,Chung, Wan-Kyun,Moon, Wonkyu IEEE 2005 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ROBOTICS Vol.21 No.3

Based on the linear complementarity formulation of a unilaterally inextensible wire model, the behavior of motion and stability of wire-suspended dynamical systems is addressed in this paper. The concept of tension properness is developed to determine kinematical motion property, particularly the instantaneous degrees-of-freedom. Further, motion determinacy in spite of tension indeterminacy is proven. The notion of tension closure is described to help analyze the stability behavior of wire-suspended dynamical systems. By analyzing the maximal closure-domain of relative tension closure, one can assess the stability behavior of wire-suspended systems qualitatively as well as somewhat quantitatively. Some numerical examples and simulations will clarify and corroborate the theoretical results of this paper.

      • Flow Cytometry-Based Quantification of Cellular Au Nanoparticles

        Park, Jonghoon,Ha, My Kieu,Yang, Nuri,Yoon, Tae Hyun American Chemical Society 2017 ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY - Vol.89 No.4

<P>There has been a great deal of research regarding the cellular association of nanoparticles (NPs), although there are only a few methods available yet for the quantitative measurements of cellular NPs. In this study, we propose a simple and quantitative method to estimate the cellular uptake of Au NPs into cervical cancer cells (HeLa) based on their side scattering (SSC) intensities measured by flow cytometry (FCM). We have compared SSC intensities of HeLa cells exposed to eight different types of Au NPs (40-100 nm size, with positive or negative surface charge) with the amount of cellular Au NPs measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS). On the basis of these comparisons, we have found linear correlations between the cellular Au NPs and the SSC intensities and used them to estimate the amount of Au NPs associated with HeLa cells. Once the correlations were found for specific cell lines and types of nanoparticles, this approach is useful for simple and quantitative estimation of the cellular Au NPs, without performing labor-intensive and complicated sample preparation procedures required for the ICPMS approach.</P>

A study comparing current and voltage combining techniques for CMOS power amplifiers for WLAN applications

Park, Jonghoon,Lee, Changhyun,Park, Changkun John Wiley Sons, Inc. 2019 MICROWAVE AND OPTICAL TECHNOLOGY LETTERS Vol.61 No.8

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>This article presents CMOS power amplifiers for WLAN applications. These power amplifiers use current and voltage combining techniques for simultaneous improvement of the output power and efficiency, respectively, and are analyzed to determine which technique is more suitable for WLAN applications. The power amplifiers are fabricated with a 180 nm CMOS process. Their performance is verified using an 802.11 g modulated signal with 64 QAM, 20 MHz of bandwidth, and 54‐Mbps at 2.7 GHz. The measurements of the current and voltage combining power amplifiers show about 21.9 and 21.8 dBm of average output power, respectively, at −25 dB error vector magnitude (EVM), and about 20.2 and 18 dBm of average output power, respectively, at −30 dB EVM for a commercial specification. In addition, the current combining PA is operated in a multi‐mode manner, which saves the power stage current about 225 mA of the power stage current at low power mode. No pre‐distortion technique is required and all components are integrated on the chip.</P>

Estimation of appropriate capacity of ventilation system based on the air infiltration rate in Korean classrooms

        Jonghoon Park,Yongsung Jang,안영철,Seongir Cheong,이재근 대한기계학회 2008 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.22 No.4

The appropriate capacity of a ventilation system based on the air infiltration rate in Korean classrooms is investigated to obtain optimal design conditions for ventilation systems. Theoretical and the experimental analyses are performed to estimate the proper ventilation capacity with a consideration of the air infiltration, the indoor air quality, and the venti-lation rate. The air infiltr the range of 0.5-1.5 1/h, and the required venti-lation rate should be decided not by the contaminants (Formaldehyde and TVOC) emitted from the construction mate-rials but by the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from human breath. The appropriate capacity of the ventilation system based on the air infiltration rate of the classroom for elementary schools is 50CMH and for middle and high schools is 800 CMH. The measured and the estimated values of CO2 concentrations are very similar and the modeling equation of CO2 concentration can be used as a reference for the proper estimation of ventilation rate in Korean schools.

      • Cardinality estimation using collective interference for large-scale RFID systems

Park, Jonghoon,Moon, Cheoleun,Yeom, Ikjun,Kim, Yusung Elsevier 2017 JOURNAL OF NETWORK AND COMPUTER APPLICATIONS - Vol.83 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Estimating the number (cardinality) of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags is a principal problem for large-scale RFID systems. This paper proposes a novel protocol for RFID cardinality estimation using synchronized response signals. For every estimation round, we need a single time-slot to parse multi-bit information from the synchronized signals that are concurrently transmitted from tags. Our protocol guarantees satisfaction of an arbitrary accuracy requirement within the smallest number of time-slots compared to existing estimation protocols. The efficiency of our protocol is based on two components: tags' synchronization and random number generation from a geometric distribution. We design these components to be feasible without heavy computation or memory overhead, and our protocol can be applied to low-cost and resource-constrained passive RFID tags. We have implemented a proof of concept prototype using software defined radio and programmable RFID tags. By conducting large-scale simulations, we have shown that our protocol outperforms the existing cardinality estimation protocols.</P>
