        This paper presents the analysis of the analysis of thrust characteristics of linear induction motors(LIMs) according to secondary reaction plate. LIMs are well known as high speed transport systems, which can obtain thrust directly without gears and links, or auxiliary mechanisms. A simple structure, easy maintenance, and less environmental pollution are advantages of LIMs. In transport systems using LIMs, the secondary reaction plate is an important design factor, because it has considerable impact on the cost of the railway as well as the performance of the LIMs. This paper deals analyzed the characteristics of linear induction motor used for moving the vehicle of container scanner. Thrust, efficiency and load characteristic were interpreted with FEM regarding two models whose material of secondary reaction plate was copper and aluminum. It suggested the interpretation of thrust, efficiency and power factor characteristic along slip and compared the operation ability of linear induction motor through characteristics analysis along the load.

        여단급 과학화전투훈련 체계 경제적 효과 분석

        본 연구에서는 여단급 과학화전투훈련 체계의 경제적 효과를 2가지 측면에서 분석하였다. 첫째, 2010년부터 2018년까지 대대급에서 여단급으로 확장된 과학화전투훈련 전력화사업에 대한 경제적 파급효과를 산업연관분석을 통해 생산유발 효과, 부가가치유발 효과, 고용유발 효과로 분석하였다. 둘째, 여단급 과학화전투훈련을 통한 예산 절감효과 분석을 위해 여단급 과학화전투훈련에 투입된 비용과 실탄을 사용하는 여단급 실기동 훈련의 투입된 비용 간 비용분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 여단급 과학화전투훈련 전력화사업 간 4,449억원이 투입되어 생산유발 효과 6,883억원, 부가가치 유발 효과 4,777억원, 고용유발 효과는 4,795명인 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 전력화사업 이후 여단급 과학화전투훈련을 통한 예산 절감효과는 1회 훈련기준 약 230억원이 절감되는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구를 통해 향후 육군에서 지속적으로 추진하고 있는 과학화훈련 관련 사업에 대한 타당성 확보 및 대외홍보를 위한 자로 활용할 수 있는 객관적 자료를 제시하였다. This study analyzed the economic effects of the KCTC System force integration project expanded from the battalion level to the brigade level from 2010 to 2018 in two aspects. First, using the input-output table issued by the Bank of Korea, the input-output analysis method, which analyzes the linkage structure and ripple effect between industries, was used to generate production inducement and the added value and employment inducement were analyzed. Second, as of 2020, the budget reduction effect of KCTC on a one-time basis was examined through a comparative analysis between the cost of a brigade-level actual maneuvering training using live ammunition and the cost of KCTC training of the same scale. The budget saved by one-time brigade-level KCTC training was approximately 23 billion won. The economic ripple effect was 688.3 billion won in production inducement, 477 billion won in value-added inducement, and 4,795 people in employment inducement effects. Finally, the analysis results derived through this study presented objective data that can be used as data for securing the validity of the science-related training projects that the Army is continuing to promote in the future and for public relations.

        Effects of vibration resistance exercise on strength, range of motion, function, pain and quality of life in persons with tennis elbow

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of vibration resistance exercise (VRE) in patients with tennis elbow on strength, range of motion (ROM), function, pain and quality of life (QOL). Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Twenty-seven participants were randomly assigned to either the VRE group (n=9), weight resistance exercise (WRE) group (n=9) or control group (n=9). Each group underwent hot compress for 15 minutes and electrotherapy for 15 minutes. The VRE group underwent exercises using a vibrating ball for 5 minutes. The WRE group underwent exercises using dumbbells for 5 minutes. All participants were evaluated on wrist extension strength using a hand-held dynamometer, grip strength level through an electric dynamometer, and ROM through a smartphone goniometer application before and after intervention. Patient-rated tennis elbow evaluation, Visual Analogue Scale and Short Form 8 were measured by questionnaires. Results: There were showed significant differences among the VRE, WRE and control group in wrist extensor muscle and hand grip strength, ROM, elbow function, pain and QOL after intervention (p<0.05). The VRE group showed a greater significant improvement in wrist extensor muscle strength and elbow function compared with the others (p<0.05). The VRE and the WRE groups had a more significant improvement in wrist extensor muscle and hand grip strength, ROM and pain compared with the control group (p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in QOL among the three groups. Conclusions: Combining VRE with thermotherapy and electrotherapy appears to be more effective in improving wrist extension strength, ROM, elbow function, QOL in tennis elbow patients.

      • The Daidzein Metabolite, 6,7,4'-Trihydroxyisoflavone, Is a Novel Inhibitor of PKCα in Suppressing Solar UV-Induced Matrix Metalloproteinase 1

        <P>Soy isoflavone is an attractive source of functional cosmetic materials with anti-wrinkle, whitening and skin hydration effects. After consumption, the majority of soy isoflavones are converted to their metabolites in the human gastrointestinal tract. To understand the physiological impact of soy isoflavone on the human body, it is necessary to evaluate and address the biological function of its metabolites. In this study, we investigated the effect of 6,7,4'-trihydroxyisoflavone (6,7,4'-THIF), a major metabolite of daidzein, against solar UV (sUV)-induced matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in normal human dermal fibroblasts. MMPs play a critical role in the degradation of collagen in skin, thereby accelerating the aging process of skin. The mitogen-activated protein/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MEK)/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MKK)3/6/p38 and MKK4/c-Jun <I>N</I>-terminal kinases (JNK) signaling pathways are known to modulate MMP-1 function, and their activation by sUV was significantly reduced by 6,7,4'-THIF pretreatment. Our results also indicated that the enzyme activity of protein kinase C (PKC)α, an upstream regulator of MKKs signaling, is suppressed by 6,7,4'-THIF using the<I> in vitro</I> kinase assay. Furthermore, the direct interaction between 6,7,4'-THIF and endogenous PKCα was confirmed using the pull-down assay. Not only sUV-induced MMP-1 expression, but also sUV-induced signaling pathway activation were decreased in PKCα knockdown cells. Overall, we elucidated the inhibitory effect of 6,7,4'-THIF on sUV-induced MMPs and suggest PKCα as its direct molecular target.</P>

        Bandwidth-Efficient OFDM Transmission with Iterative Cyclic Prefix Reconstruction

        For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response, resulting in a loss of bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, we describe a new technique to restore the cyclicity of the received signal when the CP is not sufficient for OFDM systems. The proposed technique efficiently restores the cyclicity of the current received symbol by adding the weighted next received symbol to the current received symbol. Iterative CP reconstruction (CPR) procedure, based on the residual intersymbol interference cancellation (RISIC) algorithm, is analyzed and compared to the RISIC. In addition, we apply the CPR method to Alamouti space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM system. It is shown that in the STBC OFDM, tail cancellation as well as cyclic reconstruction of the CPR procedure should be repeated. The computational complexities of the RISIC, the proposed CPR, the RISIC with STBC, and the proposed CPR with STBC are analyzed and their performances are evaluated in multipath fading environments. We also propose an iterative channel estimation (CE) method for OFDM with insufficient CP. Further, we discuss the CE method for the STBC OFDM system with the CPR. It is shown that the CPR technique with the proposed CE method minimizes the loss of bandwidth efficiency due to the use of CP, without sacrificing the diversity gain of the STBC OFDM system.

      • Treatment Modification Is not Needed for Early Alanine Aminotrasferase Flare in Treatment-naive Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B Initiated on Tenofovir

        Aims: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is a potent antiviral drug used in the treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The aim of this study was to evaluate the antiviral efficacy and safety of continuous TDF monotherapy after early alanine aminotrasferase (ALT) flare in treatment-naive patients initiated on TDF. Methods: A total of 40 treatment-naive CHB patients were treated with a 300-mg once-daily dose of TDF for more than 12 weeks. Virological markers of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and biochemical data were monitored at baseline and every 1-3 months during the therapy. The proportion of patients with undetectable HBV DNA level (< 1.25 log10 IU/ml) was noted. Results: At the baseline, median age was 44 years, and there were 31 male subjects, and 33 HBeAg-positive subjects; there was no cases of cirrhosis. Median follow-up was 36 weeks (12-140 weeks). Baseline mean HBV DNA levels were 6.04 ± 2.3 log10 IU/mL. Baseline mean ALT levels were 157 ± 144 IU/mL. Serum HBV DNA was undetectable in 58.3% and 100% of the patients at weeks 48 and 96. HBeAg loss was observed in 2 patients during the treatment period. Two HBeAg-positive patients (5%) showed ALT flares (>10 × upper limit of the normal range), without viral breakthrough, HBeAg loss, or seroconversion within first 4 weeks after the start of TDF monotherapy. ALT flares resolved within 4 weeks and both patients showed virologic response without interruption or discontinuation of treatment. Among baseline factors, young age (≤ 40 years) was predictive of early ALT flare (p = 0.048). Conclusions: Continuous TDF monotherapy may be effective and safe in treatment-naive patients with CHB experiencing early ALT flares without viral breakthrough. Early ALT flares may be related to young age in treatment-naive patients with CHB started on TDF.

      • Anti-Fibrotic Effect of Branched-Chain Amino Acids in Activated Hepatic Stellate Cells

        Aims: Previous studies suggested that branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) can suppress the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma and ameliorate hepatic fibrosis progression, but the detailed mechanisms are not clear. This study aimed to evaluate anti-fibrotic effect of BCAA in human hepatic stellate cell line, LX-2 cells. Methods: LX-2 cells were treated with different concentration of BCAA (0, 5, 30, 50 and 70mM for 24 or 48 hours) or its each components (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) and the proliferation of LX-2 cells were identified using proliferation assay. The anti-fibrotic effects of BCAA or its each components with different concentrations were evaluated using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting in LX-2 cells which were treated with BCAA or not for one hour, and then were activated by TGF-β (2.5ng/ml). Results: The proliferation of LX-2 cells were inhibited in proportion to the concentration of BCAA or its each components, and most strongly by full BCAA components. BCAA treatment repressed the expression of PCNA on LX-2 cells and also on LX-2 cells activated by TGF-β. In the analysis with each BCAA components, the expression of PCNA was repressed by valine and leucine, but not by isoleucine. Fibrosis markers, ColIα1 and α-SMA were repressed more strongly by 48 hours of BCAA treatment than 24 hours. Valine and leucine also repressed ColIα1 and α-SMA, but isoleucine did not. The expression of N-cadherin, a mesenchymal marker increased when TGF-β induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition on LX-2 cells was repressed by BCAA, valine or leucine, whereas not repressed by isoleucine. Conclusions: This study identified the anti-fibrotic effect of BCAA on hepatic stellate cell line, LX-2 cells and therefore, these results would suggest that oral supplementation with BCAA could be associated with favorable prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis.

        Characterization of S-adenosylmethionine Synthetase Gene from Red Algae, Pyropia tenera

        S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) is widely involved in variety of biosynthetic processes. It participates in the methionine (Met) metabolic pathway. SAM synthetase (EC 2.5.1.6) is the main enzyme that creates SAM from Met and adenosine triphosphate. SAMS genes are highly conserved in different species. We have isolated SAMS genes from red algae, Pyropia tenera. It has been reported that SAMS genes can confer abiotic stress-related response and growth of plant organs in other species. To elucidate the function of PtSAMS gene in evolutionary perspective, we analyzed SAMS gene using bioinformatics tools and plant transformation of Arabidopsis.

        Ultrafine-grained CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy produced by cryogenic multi-pass caliber rolling

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The ultrafine-grained (UFG) structure (∼100 nm) of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy was achieved using cryogenic multi-pass caliber rolling at 77 K to impose less deformation (<I>ε</I> = 1) compared to severe plastic deformation (SPD, <I>ε</I> > 4). Highly increased twinning activity at 77 K caused the grain interiors to fragment significantly, so UFG structure could be induced without imposing SPD. Intersected twin morphology and secondary twins played a key role in twinning-induced grain refinement to achieve UFG structure.
