        Improvement and Application for Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map(ECVAM) of Nationwide Land in Korea

        This study is aiming at improving the Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map(ECVAM) of National Land in Korea. The ECVAM items are composed of legal and environmental/ecological assessments. A popular method applied to ECVAM is an overlay environmental/ecological assessment items. The purpose of this study is to offer complementary items of the ECVAM by examining assessment items. In this study we assessed the ECVAM by five methods. Method 1 is Grade 1 areas of each administrative district; Method 2 is comparing overlapped areas of each assessment items Grade 1, 2 and permission of each assessment items duplication; Method 3 is Grade 1, 2 areas by only singular assessment items; Method 4 is Grade 1 areas only of Method 2; and Method 5 is Grade 2 areas only of Method 2. Method 1 showed Seoul and other metropolitan cities revealed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the legal assessment items. Gang won-Do, showed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the environmental/ecological assessment item. Method 2 showed 93.4% of diameter Grade II(standard for stability); forest diameter item accounted for 99.9% by Method 3, Method 4 showed 95.7% of forest diameter, and forest density accounted for 66.4% by Method 5. This study contributes to reduce the complexity in the process of manufacturing ECVAM of National Land, and to raise the flexibility in the process of managing and updating this map.

      • Analysis of judicial precedents cases regarding skin cancer from 1997 to 2017 in Republic of Korea

        Background: Both medical disputes and the incidence of skin cancer are increasing in Korea. Objectives: To figure out the medical litigation related to skin cancer and propose a method to prevent the medical disputes Methods: Skin cancer-related judgments were searched by The Supreme Court of Korea’s Written Judgment Management System based on the keywords for skin cancer. The search system included sentenced cases at the Lower Courts, the Appellate Courts, and the Supreme Court from 1997 to 2017 Results: Seven cases were selected as the litigation cases related to skin cancer. Four cases (57.1%) presented malignant melanoma, while the rest presented squamous cell carcinoma, metastatic skin cancer, and peripheral T cell lymphoma (1 case in each). Four cases resulted in death from cancer metastasis, and 3 cases presented as sequelae. The legal issues related to the medical disputes could be categorized as follows: misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, performance error, and lack of informed consent. Delayed diagnosis and lack of informed consent were the most common issues (n=4) in the precedents. Five cases (71.4%) were sentenced the awarded amounts to the plaintiff, including 2 cases of settlement decision. The average awarded amount was 42,553,644±27,567,455 Korean Won. Conclusion: Physicians should pay attention to the cases of the skin cancer to prevent medical malpractice and disputes.

        단수가격의 효과

        단수가격에 관한 연구가 많이 이루어진 미국의 화폐 단위는 달러($)와 센트(¢), 두 가지로 표시한다. 하지만 우리나라의 경우 원(\) 단위가 유일하며, 1원 단위는 일반적인 현금 거래에서 통용되지 않는 화폐단위이다. 이처럼 기본적인 화폐 단위에 대한 차이가 있기 때문에 미국의 단수가격의 효과에 관한 실험 결과를 우리나라의 가격 연구에 그대로 받아들일 수 없다. 또한 단수가격의 효과에 관한 기존 연구들은 일반적으로 관여도가 낮은 저가격 제품을 대상으로 하고 있다. 따라서 우리나라의 경우에도 저가격 제품일 때 소비자의 가격에 대한 태도가 긍정적인지에 관한 연구와, 저가격 제품과 비교해 고가격 제품에서 단수가격을 사용하는 경우 그 효과가 달라지는지에 관한 연구를 하고자 한다. 실험 결과, 저가격 제품에서는 선행 연구에서처럼 단수가격에 대한 소비자의 태도가 정수 가격에 대한 소비자의 태도 보다 긍정적이었지만, 고가격 제품에서는 단수가격에 대한 소비자의 태도가 정수가격에 대한 소비자의 태도 보다 부정적으로 나타남을 증명하였다. 그러나 브랜드 인지도와 소비자의 가격에 대한 태도는 서로 상관이 없는 것으로 나타났다. Odd-price effect has been mainly applied to the goods with lower level price because consumers do not process the price information elaborately in the low involvement situation. Additionally as consumers have a tendency to process the price information from the left to the right digit, they perceive the goods with odd-price as much cheaper. The meaning of odd-price has some difference between U.S. and Korea. Usually odd-price in U.S. means 9-ending price. In Korea, odd-price should not be 9-ending price because unit "won" in price is perceived as a very small amount, the price strategy with 9-ending can not used. Thus, the odd-price should be the price ending at least 10 won. For that reason we can't apply the same concept used in U.S. to the Korean market. Based on the previous studies, I was concerned that odd-price policy still had an effect on the consumer attitude in Korean currency and that it could be applied to the good sith high level price. Additionally I checked how the brand moderates the effect of odd-price because brand could give some trust for the justification of the strategy.

      • Using Automated Container Type Culture System Hericium erinaceum Mushroom Production Technology

        Time, place, and the high-tech industry to overcome barriers to the fusion of the so-called "smart agriculture" is changing the landscape of agriculture. Precision Agriculture's core temperature, humidity, location information, and summary information in real time, all significant ICT controlling technique. The system is a four-season container production for the mushroom cultivation temperature, humidity, illumination, self-regulation, such as carbon dioxide, the optimal environment for mushroom cultivation was implemented. Hericium erinaceum (also called Lion's Mane Mushroom, Bearded Tooth Mushroom, or Bearded Tooth Fungus) is an edible mushroom and medicinal mushroom in the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its tendency to grow all the spines out from one group (rather than branches), long spines (greater than 1 cm length) and its appearance on hardwoods. About 40 days of incubation 1.5kg oak sawdust was used as the test medium bag. The humidity was maintained more than 85~95% and temperature was 18~20°C, and CO2 density was 500~1,000ppm. The days for primordium formation showed us 6~12 days. The amount of fruitbody production was 110~260g per bag. This technique to establish new community support program in conjunction with the international movement, domestic sales and exports are also planned.

        Growth Inhibition of Colon Cancer through Inactivation of STAT3 Pathway by IL-10 and IL-1ra Released from Murine Macrophage

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of macrophages on growth of human colon cancer cells. The results showed that co-culture of colon cancer cells with macrophages inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells (HCT116 and SW620) depending on the number of macrophages, RAW 264.7 cells, and activated THP-1 cells accompanied by down regulation of pSTAT3 in cancer cells. We also found that expression and release of cancer cell growth inhibitory cytokines, IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) and IL-10, was increased in macrophages. Blocking of the STAT3 pathway with specific inhibitor and siRNA of STAT3 abolished the growth of colon cancer cells and expression of IL-1ra and IL-10. In addition, neutralization of IL-1ra and IL-10 with antibodies resulted in reversal of macrophage-induced inhibition of cancer cell growth. These data showed that IL-1ra and IL-10 released from macrophages inhibit growth of colon cancer cells through inhibition of the STAT3 pathway

        일부 농촌지역 재가 장애인의 요구도 분석

        The survey was conducted with participation of the 289 handicapped persons residing at the rural area OOeup-gun in Kyungbook for the period of March 2 - May 31, 2006, to study the nature in general of the handicapped and the boundaries of their need. For the nature in general of the handicapped, the study was done by gender iscrimination, age, marital status, religion, educational level, occupation, monthly income, disability cause, disabled duration, disability type, disability level. For the boundaries of their need, the study was done by demand of financial support, educational demand, demand of voluntary workers, need of rehabilitation and medical treatment, job training, improvement of living conditions, or so. Using the Win.SPSS program, we made a frequency analysis and conclusions on the nature in general of the handicapped and the boundaries of their need on a 2-test. Conclusions are : 1. Nature in general of the handicapped The existence of the handicapped shows high at the age over 51 (71.6%), male-handicapped (65.1%), primary school graduates (62.9%), farming engaging (65.2%), monthly income less than one million Won (80.5%), cause by disease (53.8%), duration more than 10 years (61.6%), disability at level 3 (39.8%), extremity disability (66.4%). 2. Correlation of nature in general with demand of the handicapped a. In demanding the financial support, support for helper’s compensation shows high (p<0.05). In demanding the necessity of voluntary workers, the male-handicapped appears high during the absence of family assistance and the female-handicapped appears differently per week and also appears high during the absence of family assistance (p<0.05). b. In educational demand of the handicapped by their age, the age below 30 demands technical-job training and the age over 31 demands medical education for health care (p<0.01). c. In demanding the financial support by educational level, support for living cost shows high (p<0.05). d. In demanding improvement of living conditions by postnatal cause of disability, improvement of house structure shows high (p<0.05). e. In demanding assistance of voluntary workers by disabled duration, "No Need" shows high in the disabled duration more than 4 years (p<0.05). f. In demanding rehabilitation and medical treatment by disability type, home-visiting treatment, oriental medical treatment and physical therapy show high (p<0.001). g. In educational demand by disability level, medical education for health care shows high (p<0.01).

        Visible light-driven decomposition of α-pinene and toluene over N and Fe dual-doped one-dimensional titania nanostructures with improved efficiency

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study explores the photocatalytic performance of novel N and Fe dual-doped, one-dimensional TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanotube structures (N–Fe–TNTs) for the degradation of α-pinene and toluene under visible-light illumination. N–Fe–TNTs were synthesized using a combination of sonochemical-hydrothermal-impregnation processes. N–Fe–TNT hybrids showed higher photocatalytic efficiency compared to pure TNT, N-doped TNT, and Fe-doped TNT. Specifically, the average decomposition efficiencies for α-pinene and toluene over N–Fe–TNT-1.0 were 94.6% and 88.7%, respectively. Moreover, the photocatalytic efficiency of the N–Fe–TNT hybrids improved as the Fe loading was increased gradually from 0.35% to 1.0%, though a further increase in Fe loadings led to reduced photocatalytic efficiency. The mineralization efficiencies of α-pinene and toluene were 43.2% and 47.7%, respectively. Gaseous intermediates were determined during the photocatalytic processes. Overall, the synthesized N–Fe–TNTs could be used efficiently to decompose α-pinene and toluene under visible-light exposure.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> N–Fe–TNTs were prepared via a combined sonochemical-hydrothermal-impregnation process. </LI> <LI> N–Fe–TNT hybrids showed improved efficiency compared to pure TNT and N-TNT. </LI> <LI> Mineralization efficiency and intermediates for photocatalysis were determined. </LI> <LI> N–Fe–TNT with a Fe loading of 1.0% showed the maximum photocatalytic efficiency. </LI> <LI> N–Fe–TNTs could be used capably to control pollutants with an efficiency up to 95%. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        The effects of Cudrania tricuspidata extract on bone metabolism in ovariectomized rats

        The effects of Cudrania tricuspidata (CT) extract on markers of osteoporosis were examined in ovariectomized rats. We classified 26 rats into five groups and provided a pellet chow diet and tap water throughout the 27-wk experimental period. During the last 15 wk, we added oral injections to each group as follows: sham-operated (SHAM, n=4) and ovariectomized-control (OVX, n=5) with distilled water, alendronate with 10 mg/kg/d of alendronate sodium (ALEN, n=5), CT (CT100, n=6) with 100 mg/kg/d of CT, and CT (CT300, n=6) with 300 mg/kg/d of CT. After the experimental period, blood, urine, and micro-CT images were assessed. The CT100 and OVX groups did not show any significant differences in urinary n-terminal telopeptide (NTx) (p<0.05 ), but with increases in CT concentration, the NTx level was slightly reduced. Serum osteocalcin was significantly higher in the CT groups than in all other groups (p<0.05 ). Notably, the serum calcium levels of all groups were within the normal range, but urinary calcium levels in the CT groups were significantly lower than the OVX group (p<0.05 ). In addition, the CT groups exhibited higher trabecular BMD than the OVX groups while showing similar BMD to the ALEN group (p<0.05 ). The Tb.Th of the ALEN group was lower than all other groups. Based on the overall analysis of results, CT prevented bone loss by inhibiting bone resorption and enhancing bone formation. Although alendronate showed a similar effect in preventing bone loss, it did so by solely inhibiting bone resorption, and its long-term use reportedly causes paradoxical effects such as hip fractures. Thus, for osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy, we conclude that CT extract is an effective natural treatment without severe side effects.
