Purpose - Digital transformation is the key to success for recent multinational corporates. Ample studies have paid attention to the effectiveness of digital transformation and usage of advanced technology, but there is a lack of research related to how to prepare for digital transformation. The main purpose of this study is to organize specific case of preparation for digital transformation from a management perspective. In addition, the empirical results are presented to examine the impact of the preparation of the digital transformation. Design/Methodology/Approach - The study first reviews previous literature about digital transformation to organize antecedents, theory, contingency, and outcomes. Second, based on the resource-based view, a case is explained the company’s context, processes, and methodology. Lastly, empirical analysis is conducted to investigate how effective the digital transformation is prepared, and results are presented with data from 50 affiliations and 1,059 employees. Findings - This study finds the key to successful digital transformation is well-prepared talent, and suggests how multinational corporates can be ready for talent selection and development. Furthermore, readiness in digital transformation in talent varies by industry, company, and employee characteristics. Then, the study implies successful digital transformation should consider a contingency. Research Implications - The current study expands the knowledge on digital transformation by suggesting an actual case of South Korean multinational corporations, which allows researchers and practitioners to understand the process and methodology. Second, this research extended the discussion of digital transformation to talent selection preparation since previous literature has focused only on recent technology. Lastly, the study introduces the empirical results of preparation for digital transformation and helps practitioners initiate digital transformation in their organizations.
Detection and tracking for the awareness of surroundings of a ship based on deep learning

To prevent maritime accidents, it is crucial to be aware of the surrounding environment near ships. The images recorded by a camera mounted on a ship could be used for the awareness of other ships surrounding it. In this study, ship awareness was performed using three procedures: detection, localization, and tracking. Initially, ship detection was performed using the deep learning-based detection model, YOLO (You Only Look Once) v3, based on the camera image. A virtual image dataset was constructed using Unity to overcome the difficulty of obtaining camera images onboard with various sizes of ships, and to improve the detection performance. This was followed by the localization procedure in which the position of the horizon on the image was calculated using the orientation information from the ship. Subsequently, the position of the detected ship in the spatial coordinate system was calculated using the horizon information. Following this, the position, course over ground, and speed over ground of the target ships were tracked in the time domain using the extended Kalman filter. A deep learning model that determines the heading of the ship in the image was proposed to utilize abundant information of cameras, and it was used to set the initial value of the Kalman filter. Finally, the proposed method for the awareness of ships was validated using an actual video captured from a camera installed on an actual ship with various encountering scenarios. The tracking results were compared with actual automatic identification system data obtained from other ships. As a result, the entire detection, localization, and tracking procedures showed good performance, and it was estimated that the proposed method for the awareness of the surroundings of a ship, based on camera images, could be used in the future.

However, their cell-penetrability is not converted by cellular environmental changes resulting in nonspecific uptake. In this study, pH-sensitive anion-donating groups were added to a helical polypeptide to simultaneously achieve tumor targeting and pro-apoptotic activity. The mitochondria-destabilizing helical polypeptide undergoing pH-dependent conformational transitions selectively targeted cancer cells consequently disrupting mitochondrial membranes and subsequently inducing apoptosis. This work presents a promising peptide therapeutic system for cancer therapy.

Graphical abstract

Mitochondria-destabilizing helical polypeptide undergoing a pH-activated conformational transition selectively perturbed the mitochondrial outer membranes thereby inducing pro-apoptosis.

[DISPLAY OMISSION]
