      • In vivo scintigraphic imaging of antitumor effects by combined radioiodine therapy and human sodium iodide symporter gene immunotherapy.

        Choi, Yun,Jeon, Yong Hyun,Paik, Jin Ho,Ko, Jinkyung,Choi, Dae Han,Chung, June Key,Kim, Chul Woo MIT Press 2010 Molecular imaging Vol.9 No.3

<P>In a previous study, we demonstrated that pcDNA3.1/hNIS (human sodium iodide symporter) vaccination generated hNIS-associated CD8+IFN-gamma+ (interferon-gamma) T cells, which are known to be involved in antitumor immunity. However, the immune response induced was insufficient to control tumor growth in vivo, which required a novel approach to potentiate hNIS vaccination effects. In the present study, we administered 131I radioiodine therapy prior to hNIS vaccination in CT26/hNIS tumor-bearing mice to facilitate the vaccine-induced immune response. We characterized hNIS-associated cytotoxic T-cell immune response and the antitumor effects induced by this 131I + hNIS combination therapy. The survival rates of CT26/hNIS tumor cells were significantly reduced by 131I treatment compared with the parental CT26 cells in vitro. 131I + hNIS combination therapy stably suppressed tumor growth below or near the original tumor size level of initial treatment, achieving 100% survival rates. Specifically, 131I + hNIS therapy enhanced IFN-gamma production, hNIS-associated antitumor cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response, and induced more dendritic cells but reduced T-regulatory cells in tumor masses. Collectively, these results suggest that combined therapy effectively enhances hNIS-associated antitumor immune response, leading to CT26/hNIS tumor growth inhibition and complete survival in Balb/C mice. These findings provide a novel and effective means of treating cancer.</P>

      • An Analysis of Alley Color in Tongin-dong, Chebu-dong and Nuha-dong in Seochon, Seoul

        Jinkyung Choi,Kueesook Suh,Juyeon Kim 한국색채학회 2017 AIC 2017 Jeju Vol.2017 No.10

Seochon, which was located to the west of Gyeongbok Palace, was renamed Sejong Village in 1927. Consisting of twelve dynasties, Seochon was the residence of modern artists and literati, and is a neighborhood where history and culture are preserved. It also features 630 improved Hanoks (2013) with wooden structures. Seochon, where the living culture of the past and present coexist, is an area in which the houses (parcels) are divided and connected by numerous alleys. In particular, its dead-end alleys are spaces that connect the residences to each other, and are used actively. In this study, we investigate the linkage of these dead-end alleys with the lives of residents, analyze the relationship between the alley and the residential composition through the color survey, and use it as data for the preservation and planning of the dead-end alley residential culture. The purpose of this study is to gather data. This study investigated Tongin-dong, Chebu-dong and Nuha-dong, which have the largest number of dead-end alleys. Through analyzing the photographs taken during the field survey using the Korean standard color analysis program, it was found that the ratio of color in the brown series was high due to factors such as red brick and wood finishing materials forming the Hanok`s façade, where the Hanok was prominent. There are also many colors of various series, although there is a low ratio of the color of living elements of residents appearing in the dead-end alleys. On the other hand, the colors of the floor and the elevation in the alleys of non-Hanok type residences are dominated by gray series color and have a high degree of brightness. The color of the alley space where Hanok and non-Hanok housing is mixed is the color of the gray system and the brown system, but the color of the gray system is mainly formed. It is expected that the findings of this study can be used as basic data for the preservation and maintenance of dead-end alleys rather than the preservation of the Hanok in Seochon.

Does CSR moderate the service outcome failures of a hotel?

        Jinkyung CHOI 한국유통과학회 2020 유통과학연구 Vol.18 No.8

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of corporate social responsibility and service on consumers’ risk perception, which ultimately influences satisfaction. Research design, data, and methodology: This study adopted experimental scenario questionnaires: 2 CSR conditions (with and without CSR) and 2 service outcomes (successful and unsuccessful). Multiple regressions were conducted to examine hypotheses. A total of 217 responses were gathered for research analysis. Results: The results of this study found that the performance risk perception and satisfaction of consumers were affected by both CSR and service. CSR was not found, however, to have a moderating effect on performance risk perception or satisfaction. Additionally, performance risk perception affected consumer satisfaction. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that consumers respond to the conditions of company’s CSR and service outcomes when they stay at hotels. Findings of this study suggest service outcomes and CSR had an effect on performance risk perception and satisfaction, although CSR did not moderate the effect of service outcomes for both performance risk perception or satisfaction. Therefore, providing satisfactory customer service and undertaking CSR activities are critical to achieving consumers’ overall satisfaction.

Distribution Strategies for Service Delivery: Focus on Verbal and Non-verbal Communication at Counter Service Restaurants

        Jinkyung CHOI 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.3

Purpose: This study investigated the impact of staff verbal and non-verbal communication on consumer satisfaction and revisit intention. The study sought to identify differences in demographic and eating out characteristics on perceived verbal and non-verbal communication. Research design and methodology: This study used a survey method to collect data. The questionnaire asked about previous experience with verbal and non-verbal communication with staff at a counter service restaurant. The study measured degrees of perceived verbal and non-verbal communication. In addition, the effect of verbal and non-verbal communication on satisfaction and revisit intention was measured. The principal results: Results of ANOVA showed significant differences in monthly income on verbal communication and monthly income and budget for dining out on verbal and non-verbal communication. Both verbal and non-verbal communication affected satisfaction and revisit intention significantly with slightly more power of verbal communication than non-verbal communication. Major conclusions: Results of this study suggest that consumers are affected by both verbal and non-verbal communication. Staff communication is critical to increasing consumer satisfaction and revisit intention; hence, training staff in effective communication is necessary.

      • <i>Ulmus macrocarpa</i> Hance Extracts Attenuated H 2 O 2 and UVB-Induced Skin Photo-Aging by Activating Antioxidant Enzymes and Inhibiting MAPK Pathways

        Choi, Sun-Il,Lee, Jin-Ha,Kim, Jae-Min,Jung, Tae-Dong,Cho, Bong-Yeon,Choi, Seung-Hyun,Lee, Dae-Won,Kim, Jinkyung,Kim, Jong-Yea,Lee, Ok-Hawn MDPI AG 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES Vol.18 No.6

<P>To protect from reactive oxygen species (ROS) damages, skin cells have evolved to have antioxidant enzymes, such as copper and zinc-dependent superoxide dismutase (SOD1), mitochondrial manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase (SOD2), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and glutathione reductase (GR), and suppressed the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) through the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, such as c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38. Bioactive compounds analyses were performed using a high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detector (HPLC-PDA) system. The antioxidant activity of <I>Ulmus macrocarpa</I> Hance (UMH) extracts was estimated in vitro. The anti-aging activity of UMH extracts was estimated in vivo using the SKH-1 hairless mice. The UMH extracts reduced the H2O2-induced intracellular ROS production and the cell damages in human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). Moreover, the H2O2-induced phosphorylation of JNK and p38 was detected in HDF and UMH extracts blocked the phosphorylation. These results suggest that UMH extracts can reduce the expression of MMPs and the reduced MMPs lead to the inhibition of collagen degradation. In addition, oral administration of the UMH extracts decreased the depth, thickness, and length of wrinkles on UVB exposed hairless mice. Therefore, UMH extracts play an advantage of the functional materials in antioxidant and anti-aging of skin.</P>

      • Effect of spatial experience on the Way-finding process

        ( Choi Jinkyung ),( Kim Juyeon ) 한국감성과학회 2023 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2023 No.-

Way-Finding is the process of finding a destination based on spatial information, and the spatial experience generated by prior information on space allows you to have a high understanding of actual space. This study analyzed the effect of spatial information provided in advance through VR on spatial perception in the process of way finding through EEG responses. The experiment was conducted as a space within a subway station where users could be confused in the process of finding their destination. EEG data measured by EEG measurement equipment (BIOS_ST) analyzed the Relative Theta Power Spectrum (RT), Relative Alpha Power Spectrum (RA), Relative Beta Power Spectrum (RB), and Relative Gamma Power Spectrum (RG) in the frontal lobe regions (Fp1, Fp2, Fz). The results are as follows. Human memory action is reacting in the way finding process as an active reaction in RT and RA. And it was analyzed that prior spatial experience gives a sense of stability when way finding in real space. This study examined the effect of prior experience of spatial information on the way-finding process in real space as objective data.

      • Analysis of Stability Activation Based on the Simplicity and Complexity of Spatial Image Representation in EEG Experiments

        ( Choi Jinkyung ),( Kim Juyeon ) 한국감성과학회 2023 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2023 No.-

This study aimed to conduct brainwave measurement(EEG) experiments and data analysis to investigate the complexity of spatial patterns. Participants were recruited based on their learning experiences in spatial design and their frontal lobe brainwave data (Frontal Lobe, Fp1, Fp2, Fz) were processed into Relative Spectra values (Total: N=77, Major: N=40, Non-Major: N=37). The analysis focused on the activation of the Relative Alpha Power Spectrum, which is active during states of comfort and stability within the frequency range of brainwave alpha power. The results of the analysis showed that participants with educational experiences had higher activation values in the frontal lobe region. The cognitive response process based on visual information in the Complex Spatial Image (CSI) differed significantly according to educational experience compared to the Simple Spatial Image (SSI), as analyzed through mean comparisons. This study provides objective data on visual complexity and contributes to spatial planning by offering empirical evidence on design elements and spatial forms.
