Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common allergic disease, imposing large social and economic burdens worldwide. Atopic dermatitis is characterized by eczematous skin lesions and immunoglobulin E (IgE) hypersecretion. We investigated the role of JNK1 on the development of AD in mice. The vitamin D3 analogue MC903, a psoriasis therapeutic drug, was used to induce AD-like symptoms in wild-type (WT) and JNK1−/− mice. The symptoms of AD were less severe in JNK1−/− mice compared with WT mice. JNK1−/− mice showed less ear thickening and infiltration of eosinophils and mast cells in AD-like lesions than did WT mice when treated with MC903. MC903-treated JNK1−/− mice also showed significantly lower level of serum IgE, which was elevated in MC903-treated WT mice. Splenocytes isolated from MC903-treated WT and JNK1−/− mice were stimulated with anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 monoclonal antibodies. Splenocytes from JNK1−/− mice produced lower levels of T-helper (Th2) cytokines (interleukin-4 and -13) and transcription factor GATA-binding protein 3, and produced increased levels of the Th1 cytokines interferon-γ and transcription factor T-box expressed in T cells. Our results indicate that JNK1 plays an important role in the pathogenesis of AD and may be a useful target for therapies to ameliorate AD.

고체 폐기물 연료의 유동상 연소 : 연료 특성 및 운전 인자 변화에 따른 연소 특성

Combustion characteristics of selected solid fuels (wood, paper sludge, RDF) were investigated in a laboratory scale fluidized bed combustor. A nearly single particle combustion environment was reproduced in the fluidized bed and the progress of reaction was observed by determining the carbon conversion rate, overall recovery of carbon in gas phase, and the mean conversion time, which were determined by measuring the gas phase carbon containing species, namely CO and CO₂ at the exit of the combustor. The aims were to determine the influence of the operating parameters and the fuel characteristics on the pyrolysis and combustion processes of the fuel. The parameters were bed temperature, air flow rate, oxygen concentration, water content, and the size of particle. The particle combustion process can be divided into three significant processes; moisture evaporation, devolatilization, and char combustion. All the processes were governed by the heat up process of the particle. The results also showed that the weak effect of oxygen concentration and flow rate on devolatilization. But remarkable effect on char combustion was shown. Bed temperature, size and water content affected the processes of particle combustion to some extent. Drying and devolatilization occur in parallel during the initial phase but char combustion take place either in parallel or in series by the fuel type.
Ultrasonographic atlas of splenic lesions
Choi Ga Young,김경아,Lee Jinhwan,Park Yang Shin,이종미,최재웅,이창희 대한초음파의학회 2022 ULTRASONOGRAPHY Vol.41 No.2
Ultrasonography (US) is widely used for abdominal imaging. Its noninvasiveness, extensive range of application, and low cost make US a useful and valuable tool for the detection, diagnosis, and follow-up of splenic abnormalities. Concomitantly with the increasing frequency of imaging, more splenic lesions are being discovered and the requirements for the differential diagnosis are rising. In this pictorial essay, we introduce the representative US findings of many different splenic lesions, including normal sonographic findings, normal variants and congenital anomalies, infectious conditions, benign and malignant neoplasms, and non-neoplastic lesions. Knowledge of the US features of various splenic lesions will help narrow the differential diagnosis and guide clinical decision-making.
