The objectives of this study were to evaluate the antioxidant activity, angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity, and anticancer activity of ramie (Boehmeria nivea) leaves (RL). The RL was extracted with 70%(v/v) ethanol (RLE) and fractionated with the solvents of hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate, and aqueous. The ethylacetate fraction (EF) contained the highest phenolic contents of 651.65 mg/g, followed by RLE of 148.72 mg/g. The EF showed strong 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, superoxide radical scavenging activity, and hydroxyl radical scavenging with a 50% inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$) of 0.097, 0.129, and 0.191 mg/mL, respectively. The ACE-inhibitory activity of EF was 80.32% at a concentration of 0.1 mg/mL. The EF showed growth-inhibitory effect of 67.21% at 0.25 mg/mL on the LoVo cell line, and 56.08% at 0.25 mg/mL on the NCI-H460 cell line, respectively. Therefore, it was suggested that the RL were potential materials for use as functional food and medicine.

목련 꽃 에탄올 추출물과 용매분획물에 대한 항산화활성, 항암활성 및 항염증활성을 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 목련꽃 추출물의 총 폴리페놀과 플라보노이드 함량은 216.14 및 86.93 ㎎/g이었고, DPPH법에 의한 항산화활성의 IC50값은 0.232 ㎎/mL이었으며, 용매분획물 중 에틸아세테이트 분획물이 우수한 항산화활성을 보였다(IC??: 0.197 ㎎/mL, AEAC: 0.90 ㎎ AA eq/100 ㎎). 또한 에탄올 추출물 및 용매분획물은 대장암, 폐암 그리고 간암세포에 대하여 선택적으로 낮은 농도에서 증식억제효과를 보였으며, 클로로포름 분획물은 리포폴리사카라이드 유도 일산화질소 생성 저해효과를 보였다(IC??: 49.5 ㎍/mL). The antioxidant, antiproliferation, and nitrate synthesis inhibitory effects of Magnolia denudata extracts (ME) were evaluated. The ME was extracted with 70% (v/v) ethanol and fractionated with solvents of hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, n-buthanol and aqueous. The ethyl acetate fraction contained the highest phenolic and flavonoid contents of 427.10 ㎎ garlic acid eq/g and 356.05 ㎎ catechin eq/g, respectively. The ethyl acetate fraction showed strong 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity with a 50% inhibition concentration (IC??) of 0.20 ㎎/mL and total antioxidant activity was 0.90 ㎎ AA eq/100 ㎎. From the results of cytotoxic effects of HCT116, NCL-H460, and HepG2 human cancer cells by MTT assay on the ME and its solvent fraction, chloroform fraction showed the highest cytotoxic effect (IC?? value: 0.14, 0.37, and 0.41 ㎎/mL, respectively). Nitrate synthesis inhibitory effect of ME and its solvent fractions on nitric oxide synthase activity in LPS stimulated RAW 264.7 cells were decreased in dose-dependent manners, and IC?? value of hexane and chloroform fractions were 0.39 and 0.49 ㎎/mL, respectively.
남성 사이버 패션 커뮤니티 '디젤매니아'를 통해 본 남성성 수행에 관한 사례 연구

패션과 관련된 소비는 흔히 여성적인 현상이라고 간주되어 왔고, 패션에 관심을 기울이는 남성은 남자답지 못하다고 취급되어 왔다. 본 연구는 패션에 관한 정보를 익명의 다른 남성과 교환하는 사이버 공간에서의 동성사회성을 통한 새로운 남성성 수행을 분석한다. 이러한 새로운 남성성 수행 현상을 탐색하기 위해 연구자는 한국의 대표적인 남성 사이버 패션 커뮤니티인 '디젤매니아'를 대상으로 가상 에쓰노그래피를 수행하였다. 또한 게시판에 저장되어 있는 데이터를 통해 이들의 상호작용 특징을 파악할 수 있는 포스팅 분석을 시도하였고, 비참여관찰로 인한 손실을 방지하기 위해 연구현장을 잘 알고 있는 정보제공자를 인터뷰하였다. '디젤매니아'의 게시판에서는 패션에 대한 관심을 매개로 남성 사이의 활발한 상호작용이 이뤄진다. 남성들은 패션에 관한 정보를 서로 주고받으며 '디매인'이라는 집단 정체성을 공유하고 자신의 패션 코디를 타인들로부터 평가받는 상호작용을 통해 새로운 형태의 동성사회성을 수행하고 있다. 이들은 여성을 수동적인 쾌락의 대상으로 삼는 헤게모니적 남성의 시선에서 벗어난 남성성을 보여준다. 또한 패션을 매개로 강화된 동성사회성의 배후에는 여성의 로맨스 대상이 되려는 욕망이 담겨있다. 이 점에서 이들은 동성애 남성과는 구별되는 이성애 전략을 남성성 수행을 통해 보여준다. 또한 '디매인'이 추구하는 이상적인 패션 형태인 '디매스타일'은 특정 브랜드의 세트라는 점에서, 이들은 소비주의와 강력하게 결합한 채 새로운 남성성을 수행하고 있다. Interests in fashion and consumerism have largely been regarded as feminine phenomena. Men's fashion has remained largely outside the academic research arena. As society transforms, changes are observed not only in biological maleness but also in masculinity itself. The rise of the 'New Man', and his interest in fashion and appearance, is a signal of these changes. This study explores a men's cyberspace fashion community, 'Dieselmania', one of the largest such cyberspace groupings in Korea. The study's findings lead us to conclude that 'Dieselmania' can represent the emergence of 'New Man' in Korea. 'Dieselmania' members actively exchange information about fashion. They are willing to act as their own fashion and style subjects, and then be evaluated by others. The author terms this as 'homosociality', created from male shared interests. This growing cyberspace community shows the interlocking relationship between masculinity and consumerism in Korea.

Beneficial Effects of Cynaroside on Cisplatin-Induced Kidney Injury In Vitro and In Vivo

Anti-cancer drugs such as cisplatin and doxorubicin are effectively used more than radiotherapy. Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic drug, used for treatment of various forms of cancer. However, it has side effects such as ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity. Cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity increases tubular damage and renal dysfunction. Consequently, we investigated the beneficial effect of cynaroside on cisplatin-induced kidney injury using HK-2 cell (human proximal tubule cell line) and an animal model. Results indicated that $10{\mu}M$ cynaroside diminished cisplatin-induced apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction and caspase-3 activation, cisplatin-induced upregulation of caspase-3/MST-1 pathway decreased by treatment of cynaroside in HK-2 cells. To confirm the effect of cynaroside on cisplatin-induced kidney injury in vivo, we used cisplatin exposure animal model (20 mg/kg, balb/c mice, i.p., once a day for 3 days). Renal dysfunction, tubular damage and neutrophilia induced by cisplatin injection were decreased by cynaroside (10 mg/kg, i.p., once a day for 3 days). Results indicated that cynaroside decreased cisplatin-induced kidney injury in vitro and in vivo, and it could be used for improving cisplatin-induced side effects. However, further experiments are required regarding toxicity by high dose cynaroside and caspase-3/MST-1-linked signal transduction in the animal model.

<P>The aurora kinases constitute one family of serine/threonine kinases whose activity is essential for mitotic progression. The aurora kinases are frequently upregulated in human cancers and are associated with sensitivity to chemotherapy in certain ones. In the present study, we investigated whether aurora kinases could be a target to overcome radioresistance or enhance the radiosensitivity of lung cancer. For that purpose, we determined the therapeutic potential of daurinol, an investigational topoisomerase inhibitor, alone and in combination with radiation, by observing its effect on aurora kinases. Daurinol decreased cell viability and proliferation in human colon and lung cancer cells. Gene expression in daurinol-treated human colon cancer cells was evaluated using RNA microarray. The mRNA expression of 18 genes involved in the mitotic spindle check point, including aurora kinase A (AURKA) and aurora kinase B (AURKB), was decreased in daurinol-treated human colon cancer cells as compared with vehicle-treated cells. As expected, radiation increased expression levels of AURKA and AURKB. This increase was effectively attenuated by siRNAs against AURKA and AURKB, which suppressed cell growth and increased apoptosis under radiation. Furthermore, the expression of AURKA and AURKB was suppressed by daurinol in the presence or absence of radiation in colon and lung cancer cells. Daurinol alone or in combination with radiation decreased lung cancer growth in xenograft mouse models. This paper describes the design of an energy storage system using supercapacitor. The maximum discharging power and duration of the system are 5 ㎾ and 30 second, respectively. To meet the discharging requirement a supercapacitor module(50.4 V 166 F) is selected, and its model parameters are obtained through experiment. The design and simulation results show the usefulness of the system.

본 논문에서는 저스위칭손실을 가지는 새로운 Sepic 컨버터를 제안한다. 제안하는 컨버터는 보조공진 폴 회로와 동기정류동작에 의해 저스위칭손실과 저도통손실을 가지며 Buck-Boost DC-DC 컨버터의 전압 전달함수와 같으므로(M=D/1-D) 분산전원 시스템에 사용하기 적합하다. 또한 입력전압과 부하가 변동하더라도 안정된 출력을 얻을 수 있는 PI제어를 통해 시스템의 안정성을 확인하였다.
