Objective To evaluate the long-term outcomes, including the pregnancy outcome and recurrence rate after single-port laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) using a modified suture technique with a Hem-o-lok clip (Choi’s LM) and conventional 4-port LM. Methods A retrospective study of patients who underwent Choi’s LM (n=55) and 4-port LM (n=102) in a single institutional hospital was conducted. Patients with <3 symptomatic myomas sized <10 cm each and operated on by a single surgeon were included. Recurrence was confirmed when a myoma measuring ≥3 cm was detected. Results The patients in both groups had similar demographic characteristics. Single (76.4% vs. 62.7%) and intramural (52.7% vs. 56.9%) tumors were commonly detected in both groups in the mean diameter (6.8±1.5 cm vs. 7.0±1.6 cm; P=0.40). In Choi’s LM, 16 patients (29.1%) needed an additional port; those who were nulliparous and/or had a large leiomyoma more frequently required an additional port (P=0.023 and 0.04, respectively). During a median follow-up period of 69 months, 17 patients (7.1% vs. 14.6%) had recurrence. The size of dominant myomas at recurrence was significantly smaller in patients who underwent Choi’s LM (3.4±0.7 cm vs. 5.7±2.4 cm; P=0.004). All 13 patients in both groups who successfully conceived had a full-term delivery. No major complications occurred during pregnancy. Conclusion Although an additional port was frequently used, the long-term outcomes of patients who experienced recurrence and pregnancy after Choi’s LM were acceptable. Considering its usability, Choi’s LM is feasible for the treatment of uterine leiomyoma.
Radiopaque markers and hydrogram in feline alimentary lymphoma

Radiography, ultrasonography with hydrogram, and contrast studies using radiopaque markers were applied to evaluate alimentary lymphoma in two cats. The hydrogram facilitated the differentiation of pseudo-thickening from true wall thickening, and enabled an evaluation of wall layering and lymph nodes. In case 1, mechanical obstruction of the duodenum was confirmed with barium-impregnated polyethylene spheres (BIPS), a radiopaque marker; however, results obtained in case 2 were not as definitive. We expect that hydrograms and BIPS can be used as valuable alternative methods to evaluate the gastrointestinal (GI) tract although further studies in cases involving GI tumors are needed.
Diagnostic imaging of malignant insulinoma in a dog

Endocrine test data from a 13-year old intact female Maltese was indicative of the presence of an insulinoma, however ultrasonography identified a pancreatic mass only after 10 months after the first admission. Following identification of both pancreatic tumor and hepatic metastasis on computed tomography (CT), surgical excision of the mass was attempted. However, total excision failed because of tumor adhesion to adjacent large vessels. The pancreatic mass was monitored over the next 25 months via ultrasonography, CT, and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT). Histopathological and immunohistochemical data confirmed the diagnosis of insulinoma with hepatic metastasis.
Specific Near‐IR Absorption Imaging of Glioblastomas Using Integrin‐Targeting Gold Nanorods
Choi, Jihye,Yang, Jaemoon,Park, Joseph,Kim, Eunjung,Suh, Jin‐,Suck,Huh, Yong‐,Min,Haam, Seungjoo WILEY‐VCH Verlag 2011 Advanced Functional Materials Vol.21 No.6
<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Molecular imaging using nanoprobes with high resolution and low toxicity is essential in early cancer detection. Here we introduce a new class of smart imaging probes employing PEGylated gold nanorods (GNRs) conjugated to cRGD for specific optical imaging of αvβ3 integrins from glioblastoma. GNRs exhibiting an optical resonance peak in the near‐infrared (NIR) region were synthesized using the seed‐mediated growth method. CTAB (cetyl trimethylammonium bromide) bilayer on the GNRs was replaced with a biocompatible stabilizer, heterobifunctional polyethyleneglycol (COOH‐PEG‐SH). Further, the carboxylated GNRs (PGNRs; PEG‐coated GNRs) were functionalized with cRGD using EDC‐NHS chemistry to formulate cRGD‐conjugated GNRs (cRGD‐PGNRs) for αvβ3 integrins. In order to assess the potential of the cRGD‐PGNRs as a targeted imaging probe, we investigated their optical properties, biocompatibility, colloidal stability and in vitro/in vivo binding affinities for cancer cells. Consequently, cRGD‐PGNRs demonstrated excellent tumor targeting ability with no cytotoxicity, as well as sufficient cellular uptake due to stable and prolonged blood circulation of cRGD‐PGNRs.</P>
Associations Between Grit, Sustainable Behavior, and Emotional Well-Being
Jihye Choi 충남대학교 아시아여론연구소 2020 Asian journal for public opinion research Vol.8 No.2
This paper investigated the impact of grit on sustainable behavior and emotional well-being. A questionnaire about grit, sustainable behavior, and emotional well-being was administered to 273 undergraduate students in South Korea. To examine the association between the variables, this study used two spell out (SEM) comparison models. The results show that grit is positively related to sustainable behavior and emotional well-being. The effect of grit on emotional well-being was mediated by sustainable behavior. The effect of grit is higher on sustainable behavior than emotional well-being. In addition, sustainable behavior has a positive relationship to emotional well-being. The results show that the grit has an important implication for sustainable environment education and individual well-being.

<P>Interleukin-33 (IL-33), a member of the IL-1 cytokine family, is emerging as a new regulator of immune responses and inflammatory vascular diseases. Although IL-33 and its cognate receptor ST2 appear to be expressed in vascular cells, the precise role of IL-33 in the vasculature has not been determined. In this study, we report a novel role of IL-33 as a potent endothelial activator, promoting both angiogenesis and vascular permeability. IL-33 increased proliferation, migration, and morphologic differentiation of human endothelial cells, consistently with increased angiogenesis in vivo. IL-33 also increased endothelial permeability with reduced vascular endothelial-cadherin-facilitated cell-cell junctions in vitro and induced vascular leakage in mouse skin. These effects of IL-33 were blocked by knockdown of ST2. Ligation of IL-33 with ST2 rapidly increased endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production through TRAF6-mediated activation of phosphoinoside-3-kinase, Akt, and endothelial NO synthase. Moreover, pharmacologic or genetic blockage of endothelial NO generation resulted in the inhibition of angiogenesis and vascular hyperpermeability induced by IL-33. These data demonstrate that IL-33 promotes angiogenesis and vascular leakage by stimulating endothelial NO production via the ST2/TRAF6-Akt-eNOS signaling pathway. These findings open new perspectives for the role of IL-33 in the pathogenesis of angiogenesis-dependent and inflammatory vascular diseases.</P>
