Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of smoking on utilization of and expenses in ambulatory dental care. Methods: The subjects of this study were 5,751 men aged over 20 years selected from the Korea Health Panel data collected during 2010-2012. Pack-years of smoking were calculated based on the survey data. Dental utilization was defined as dental outpatient clinic use least once in three years. The expenses in ambulatory dental care were summed to determine total dental health care spending for three years. To detect the effect of smoking, we used multiple logistic regression analysis for dental utilization and multiple linear regression for expenses in ambulatory dental care after changing log. Results: The pack-years had a significant effect on dental utilization and expenses in participants aged 40-59 years. After controlling for income level, bedtime brushing, and the presence of chronic disease, dental care utilization rates in the over 10 to less than 25 pack-year and the over 25 pack-year groups were about 1.4 (OR=1.37, (P =0.007)) and 1.6 times (OR=1.59, (P =0.001)) those in the 0 pack-year group. In comparison with the 0 pack-year group, the over 10 to less than 25 pack-year group spent 50,000 won more over dental expenses, while the corresponding number for the over 25 pack-year group was about 100,000 won. Thus, the ambulatory dental care expenses increased with the packyears of smoking. Conclusions: Smoking significantly influenced the utilization and expense in ambulatory dental care in men aged 40-59 years.

Research on the change of perception of abandoned dogs through big data analysis

본 연구에서는 빅데이터 분석을 통해 유기견에 대한 국민 인식 변화를 분석하고자 한다. 2017년 1월부터 2020년 7월까지의 데이터를 수집하여 유기견을 키워드로 한 사회적 이슈의 양적변화가 유기견에 대한 국민 인식에 어떠한 영향을 끼쳤고, 긍정/부정적인 인식에 영향을 주는 요인들을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 유기견 수와 유기견과 관련한 문서 수는 양의 상관관계를 가지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었고, 텍스트 마이닝과 네트워크 분석, 감정 분석 등 다양한 분석 기법을 통해 구체적으로 어떠한 시계열적 변화가 있는지 알 수 있었다. 이 연구는 유기견에 대한 정책 수립이나 다른 연구에 활용될 수 있는 기본 데이터로써 의의를 가질 것이다. 유기견에 대한 인식을 개선하고 책임의식을 기를 수 있도록 문제를 해결해 나가는데 도움이 되기를 기대한다. This study aims to analyze the changes in public perception of abandoned dogs through big data analysis. Data from January 2017 to July 2020 were collected to analyze how the quantitative change in social issues with abandoned dogs as a keyword had an effect on public perception of abandoned dogs, and factors that influence positive/negative perceptions. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the number of stray dogs and the number of documents related to stray dogs had a positive correlation, and specific time series changes were found through various analysis techniques such as text mining, network analysis, and sentiment analysis. This study will have significance as basic data that can be used for policy establishment or other research on abandoned dogs. we hope it will help to solve problems so as to improve awareness of abandoned dogs and develop a sense of responsibility.

Background Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have represented the prototype of targeted therapy in NSCLC. Patients with EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinoma extract an extraordinary clinical benefit from EGFR-TKIs. However, the extent and duration of these responses are heterogeneous, suggesting the existence of genetic modifiers affecting an individual’s response to TKIs. We investigated whether genetic variants in miRNA binding sites are associated with the clinical outcome of EGFR-TKIs in lung adenocarcinoma patients. Methods One hundred SNPs in miRNA binding sites in cancer related genes were selected for the analysis using the crosslinking, ligation and sequencing of hybrids (CLASH) and CancerGenes database. qRT-PCR and luciferase assays were conducted to evaluate functional relevance of the SNPs. Results NUP62 rs9523A>G were significantly associated with worse response to EGFR-TKIs, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS). Another three SNPs (DVL2 rs2074216G>A, ARF1 rs11541557G>T, and UHRF1 rs2261988C>A) were significantly associated with worse OS and PFS. The rs9523A>G was significantly associated with decreased NUP62 expression in tumor tissues. In addition, significantly decreased luciferase activity was noted in NUP62 rs9523 G allele compared to A allele. Conclusion In conclusion, genetic variants in miRNA binding sites, especially NUP62 rs9523A>G, may be useful in predicting the clinical outcomes of EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinoma patients treated with EGFR-TKIs.
A Case of Peritoneal Tuberculosis Developed after Infliximab Therapy for Refractory RA

Recently, interferon gamma releasing assay has been recommended to compensate the tuberculin skin test (TST) for screening for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Although it improved the detection of LTBI before treatment with tumor necrosis factor blocker, its application to immune suppressed patients is limited. We report a case of peritoneal tuberculosis (TB) developed in a patient who tested positive for TST and QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT-G) before infliximab therapy, to emphasize the importance of monitoring during treatment. A 52-year-old woman presented with abdominal distension. She had been diagnosed with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis six years ago. She had started taking infliximab six months ago. All screening tests for TB were performed and the results of all were negative. At admission, the results of repeated TST and QFT-G tests were positive. Histopathological examination confirmed peritoneal TB. The patient started anti-TB therapy and the symptoms were relieved.
The effect of near-infrared fluorescence conjugation on the anti-cancer potential of cetuximab

This study investigated the anti-cancer potential of a near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) molecule conjugated with Cetuximab (Cetuximab-NIRF) in six-week-old female BALB/c athymic (nu+/nu+) nude mice. A431 cells were cultured and injected into the animals to induce solid tumors. Paclitaxel (30 mg/kg body weight (BW)), Cetuximab (1 mg/kg BW), and Cetuximab-NIRF (0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 mg/kg BW) were intraperitoneally injected twice a week into the A431 cell xenografts of the nude mice. Changes in BW, tumor volume and weight, fat and lean mass, and diameter of the peri-tumoral blood vessel were determined after two weeks. Tumor volumes and weights were significantly decreased in the Cetuximab-NIRF (1 mg/kg BW) group compared with the control group (P<0.001). Lean mass and total body water content were also conspicuously reduced in the Cetuximab-NIRF (1 mg/kg BW) group compared with the vehicle control group. Peri-tumoral blood vessel diameters were very thin in the Cetuximab-NIRF groups compared with those of the paclitaxel group. These results indicate that the conjugation of Cetuximab with NIRF does not affect the anti-cancer potential of Cetuximab and NIRF can be used for molecular imaging in cancer treatments.
Selective Peripheral Denervation for the Treatment of Spasmodic Torticollis

Objective: Various methods of treatment for idiopathic cervical dystonia have been tried in the past with unsatisfactory results. The authors report cases of five patients who underwent selective peripheral denervation for spasmodic torticollis. Methods: Between July 2002 and December 2003, 5 patients underwent surgery at St. Mary's Hospital for spasmodic torticollis. Age of the patient at the onset of symptoms ranged from 29 to 56years (mean 43.75years). Selective peripheral denervation(SPD) was performed at 7 to 11 months after the onset of symptoms (mean 8.75 months). A patient was considered to be the candidate for surgery if conservative methods were unsuccessful and symptoms persisted for longer than 7months. In addition, 2patients who refused treatment with botulinum toxin were also enrolled in this study. Results: Although one patient underwent reoperation, all of the five patients' symptoms were improved after the operation. Clinically, patients with retrocollis showed better improvement than laterocollis patients. Conclusion: Although injection of botulinum toxin is the first-choice in treatment modality, when surgery is required, selective peripheral denervation provides good results with minimum side effects.
