MIRIS Pa <i>α</i> Galactic Plane Survey. I. Comparison with IPHAS H <i>α</i> in <i>ℓ</i> = 96°-116°

<P>The Multipurpose InfraRed Imaging System (MIRIS) performed the MIRIS Pact Galactic Plane Survey (MIPAPS), which covers the entire Galactic plane within the latitude range of -3 degrees less than or similar to b less than or similar to +3 degrees at Pa alpha (1.87 mu m). We present the first result of the MIPAPS data extracted from the longitude range of l = 96 degrees.5-116.degrees 3 and demonstrate the quality and scientific potential of the data by comparing them with Ha maps obtained from the INT Photometric H alpha Survey (IPHAS) data. We newly identify 90 H II region candidates in the WISE H II region catalog as definite H II regions by detecting the Pa alpha and/or H alpha recombination lines, out of which 53 H II regions are detected at Pa alpha. We also report the detection of an additional 29 extended and 18 point-like sources at Pa alpha. We estimate the E(B-V) color excesses and total Lyman continuum luminosities for H II regions by combining the MIPAPS Pact and IPHAS H alpha fluxes. The E(B-V) values are found to be systematically lower than those estimated from point stars associated with H II regions. Utilizing the MIPAPS Pact and IPHAS H alpha images, we obtain an E(B-V) map for the entire region of the H II region Sh2-131 with an angular size of -2 degrees.5. The E(B-V) map shows not only numerous high-extinction filamentary features but also negative E(B-V) regions, indicating H alpha excess. The Ha excess and systematic underestimation of E(B-V) are attributed to light scattered by dust.</P>

Graphene and Fe3O4 were bound by electrostatic attraction and prepared by effective reduction through microwave treatments. As a result of fabricating graphene with Fe3O4 as a composite material, it has been confirmed that it contributes to the structural improvement in graphene stabilization and at the same time, it shows improved electrochemical performance through improved charge transfer. It was also confirmed that the crystalline Fe3O4 was uniformly dispersed in the rGO sheet, effectively blocking the reaggregation due to the van der Waals interaction between the neighboring rGO sheets. The structural analysis of prepared composites was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometer. Electrochemical properties of composites were studied by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge–discharge curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The Fe3O4 (0.4 M)/rGO composite showed a high specific capacitance of 972 F g−1 at the current density of 1 A g−1 in 6 M KOH electrolyte, which is higher than that of the pristine materials rGO (251 F g−1) and Fe3O4 (183 F g−1). Also, the prepared composites showed a very stable cyclic behavior at high current density, as well as an improvement in comparison with pristine materials in terms of resistance.

경제이론의 발전에 따라 정부부문이 모형 내에 내생화되면서 정부의 행동 및 정책결정에 대하여 보다 심도 있는 이해가 가능하게 된 반면“Determinacy Paradox”라는 문제에 직면하게 된다. 이는 정부의 행동양식이 스스로 동기를 갖는 합리적인 경제주체로서의 활동으로 모형 내에서 결정될 때, 전통적으로 경제학자 본연의 역할로 여겨져 왔던 정부에 대한 규범적인 정책조언활동이 과연 가능한지에 대한 문제제기이다. 본 논문은 determinacy paradox가 갖는 함의를 명확히 규명하고 정보의 비대칭성 및 정부의 목적함수에 주목하여 역설적인 결과의 해결가능성을 모색한다. 정책조언의 ‘존재가능성’에 초점을 맞추는 경우에는 불확실성하의 정보의 비대칭성이 determinacy paradox를 해결하는 데 핵심적인 요소가 된다. 규범적 정책조언의 ‘채택가능성’에 초점을 맞추는 경우에는 정부가 자체적으로 갖는 목적함수를 고려하는 것이 중요하게 된다. Basu(1997)가 보여 주는 회의적인 결과와는 달리, 일정한 제약조건에 직면한 정부가 마치 자신의 목적이 사회후생을 극대화하는 데 있는 것처럼 행동하는 경우 또는 정부와 경제학자가 비슷한 목적함수를 가지고 있는 경우에는 정부에 대한 정책조언이 의미 있는 활동이 될 수 있으며, 이에 따라 약한 형태의 determinacy paradox를 성공적으로 극복할 수 있다. As increasing numbers of economic models endogenize government, we get more fruitful understanding about its policy determination. With policies endogenously determined, how-ever, we confront the "determinacy paradox" that addresses the possible conflict between two traditional activities by economists: advising government "what should be done" vs. predicting "what government will do." In this note I clarify the implication of the determinacy paradox and explore how to resolve the paradoxical result, focusing on asymmetric information and the government"s objective function. When we focus on the "possibility of existence" of advice, asymmetric information under uncertainty plays a key role in resolving the determinacy paradox. When we concentrate on the "acceptability" of normative advice, considering government"s own objective becomes a crucial job. Unlike Basu(1997)"s skeptical result, when government behaves by some constraints as if its aim were maximizing social welfare, or when government and the economist share the similar objectives, giving advice to government can be a sensible activity, so that we can successfully overcome the weak form of the determinacy paradox.
Comparison Study of different Feature Classifiers for Hand Posture Classification

Hand posture classification has attracted much attention in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In hand posture classification, vision based approach is popularly used. However, it has difficulty of dealing with illumination change and pose variation. In this paper, we compare the performance of combination with features, which are HOG, LBP, and classifiers, which are SVM and Neural Network for hand posture classification. Experiments are performed with Cambridge hand gesture dataset.

<P>Hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes were introduced into sulfur cathodes to utilize the hydrophilic attraction between the OH group and polysulfides as well as to increase the utilization of sulfur. This approach shows a promising strategy for diminishing the polysulfides shuttling behavior and improving the electrochemical performance of lithium-sulfur batteries.</P>
Adaptive ROI-based Autonomous Pedestrian Detection System

This paper presents an efficient algorithm to set adaptive ROI for detecting pedestrians in a moving vehicle environment. The algorithm analyzes the centroid of detected pedestrian in current frame and define centroid region where centroids of detected pedestrian are concentrated. Based on centroid region, adaptive ROI is updated for each different size of detection window in next frame. Experiments are conducted with the Caltech pedestrian dataset and proposed method not only reduces computation time but also maintains performance of conventional methods.
Obovatol inhibits NLRP3, AIM2, and non-canonical inflammasome activation

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Obovatol, a biphenolic chemical originating from <I>Magnolia obovata</I>, has been utilized as a traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Inflammasome induces maturation of inflammatory cytokines in response to intracellular danger signals, and its dysregulation induces inflammatory diseases.</P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>The effect of obovatol on inflammasome activation has not been reported, although its anti-inflammatory properties have been studied.</P> <P><B>Study design/methods</B></P> <P>Obovatol was treated to macrophages with inflammasome triggers, and secretions of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-18, and caspase-1 were measured as readouts of inflammasome activation. In addition, Asc pyroptosome formation, caspase-1 activity, and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production were analyzed in mechanical studies. Anti-inflammasome properties of obovatol were confirmed in an animal model.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Obovatol inhibited NLRP3, AIM2, and non-canonical inflammasomes through inhibition of Asc pyroptosome formation and mitochondrial ROS generation. In addition, obovatol disrupted the priming step of inflammasome activation and inhibited transcription of inflammatory cytokines. In mice, obovatol attenuated serum IL-1β elevation in response to monosodium urate crystals.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>Obovatol is suggested as an inhibitor of NLRP3, AIM2, and non-canonical inflammasomes.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P> Diabetes-induced cognitive decline has been recognized in human patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus and mouse model of obesity, but the underlying mechanisms or therapeutic targets are not clearly identified. We investigated the effect of caloric restriction on diabetes-induced memory deficits and searched a molecular mechanism of caloric restriction-mediated neuroprotection. C57BL/6 mice were fed a high-fat diet for 40 weeks and RNA-seq analysis was performed in the hippocampus of high-fat diet-fed mice. To investigate caloric restriction effect on differential expression of genes, mice were fed high-fat diet for 20 weeks and continued on high-fat diet or subjected to caloric restriction (2 g/day) for 12 weeks. High-fat diet-fed mice exhibited insulin resistance, glial activation, blood-brain barrier leakage, and memory deficits, in that we identified neurogranin, a down-regulated gene in high-fat diet-fed mice using RNA-seq analysis; neurogranin regulates Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>/calmodulin-dependent synaptic function. Caloric restriction increased insulin sensitivity, reduced high-fat diet-induced blood-brain barrier leakage and glial activation, and improved memory deficit. Furthermore, caloric restriction reversed high-fat diet-induced expression of neurogranin and the activation of Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II and calpain as well as the downstream effectors. Our results suggest that neurogranin is an important factor of high-fat diet-induced memory deficits on which caloric restriction has a therapeutic effect by regulating neurogranin-associated calcium signaling. </P>
