New Type of Reconstruction Method after Subtotal Gastrectomy (Noh's Operation)
Noh, Seung-Moo,Jeong, Hyun-Yong,Cho, June-Sik,Shin, Kyung-Sook,Song, Kyu-Sang,So, Young,Lee, Tae-Yong 충남대학교 암연구소 2005 암연구소 업적집 Vol.4 No.-
The aim of this study was to compare a new type of reconstruction method (Noh's operation) with Roux-en-Y operation after subtotal gastrectomy. Noh's operation described herein includes a jejunal occlusion, an end-to-side gastrojejunostomy, a side-to-end jejunoduodenostomy, and a side-to-side jejunojejunostomy after subtotal gastrectomy. A series of 43 patients who had the new operation were compared with 47 patients with the Roux-en-Y procedure. The postgastrectomy syndromes, and the raucosal change of the remnant stomach and esophagus were evaluated after surgery. In the new operation, the Roux stasis syndrome occurred in 34.9% at 3 months, in 23.3% at 6 months, in 14.0% at 12 months, and in 11.6% at 24 months. In patients undergoing the Roux-en-Y operation, the syndrome occurred in 42.6% at 3 months, in 34.0% at 6 months, in 31.9% at 12 months, and in 29.8% at 24 months. This study shows that the new type of operation (Noh's operation) can be a good option for reconstruction after subtotal gastrectomy.

We examined the beneficial effects of an active principle in kimchi, 3-(4`-hydroxyl-3`, 5`-dimethoxyphenyl) propionic acid (HDMPPA), on antherogenesis in apolipoprotein E knockout (apoE KO) mice. ApoE KO mice were fed an atherogenic diet containing 1% cholesterol (control group) with an intraperitoneal injection of chemically synthesized HDMPPA(10mg/kg/day) (HDMPPA group) for 8 weeks. The aortic sinus atherosclerotic lesion size in the HDMPPA group (n = 10) was significantly smaller (control vs. HDMPPA, 280,790 vs. l65.409 μm2, P < .001). The level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the HDMPPA group was lower by 14%, compared with the control group (P < .05). Aortic NADPH oxidase activity was significantly lower in the HDMPPA group than in the control group. HDMPPA suppressed the mRNA expression of p47phox and rac-1 of NADPH oxidase by 27.2% and 46.0%, respectively, compared with values of the control group. In conclusion, HDMPPA in kimchi may attenuate atherosclerosis in apoE KO mice through retardation of ROS generation via down-regulating the mRNA expression of p47phox and rae-1, which are the components of NADPH oxidase.
Antioxidative Effects of Delphinidin under in vitro and Cellular System
Jeong Sook Noh,Yun Ju Cho,Boh Kyung Kim,Kun Young Park,Eun Ju Cho 한국식품과학회 2009 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.18 No.1
This study examined the antioxidative activity of delphinidin, a kind of anthocyanidin from eggplant. Cellular protective potential from oxidative damage by nitric oxide (NO), superoxide anion (O₂?), and peroxynitrite (ONOO?) using epithelial cell line LLC-PK1 cell as well as in vitro radical scavenging effects were investigated. Delphinidin showed strong in vitro radical scavenging effects against NO, O₂?, and hydroxyl radical (ㆍOH) in dose-dependent manners. In addition, delphinidin increased cell viability in LLC-PK1 cells in a concentration-dependent manner when viability was reduced by ONOO?-induced oxidative damage. To elucidate the protective mechanisms of delphinidin from ONOO?, sodium nitroprusside (SNP), and pyrogallol were also employed to generate NO and O₂?, respectively. The treatment of delphinidin recovered reductions in cell viability caused by SNP and pyrogallol, indicating that delphinidin can attenuate oxidative stress induced by NO and O₂?. The present study suggests that delphinidin is a promising antioxidative agent.
