Background : Aim of this study is focused on the analysis of the needed abilities of medical representatives resulting in building up the market and increasing sales. It is to propose methods to increase this ability ensuring continuous growth in market share and profit. Methods : A survey was conducted between January 6 and May 31, 2003. Using SPSS(Version 10.0), the collected data was analyzed by Hotelling T2, factor analysis. Some hypotheses were selected to include the conclusion. Some questionnaires for physicians working in hospitals or clinics and the medical representatives working in a pharmaceutical company were created and asked to them to either prove or reject those hypotheses. The results were analyzed to find the primary factors that effect the interactions between physician and the medical representatives. These factors were also studied along with the theoretical research based on published references. Results : The results were as follows. The main reasons for the physician to meet with a medical representatives were collection of product informations needed for patient treatment and collection of informations on current medical issue and as well as personal interests. The main parameters by which physicians evaluate the medical representatives are human relationship including sincerity and manners and supply of accurate and unbiased information on products. Overall, the medical representatives’ perception on the importance of medical knowledge and ability to deliver it are lower than that expected by physicians. Conclusion : Medical and pharmaceutical companies’ environment are changed rapidly. And those changes forced medical representatives to set new roles and competency. In order to drive away from the past ‘rule of thumb’ and ‘adaptation to circumstance’, optimal method and systemic development to train and support the medical representatives should be quipped. They will help ,medical representatives to be specialists in medical knowledge and to understand the exact need of health care professions. Product competitiveness will be increased and eventually successful business can be achieved through it.

This study was designed to compare the understanding of ordinary elementary school students and scientifically gifted students about scientists. 473 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in ordinary elementary schools and 40 students attending scientific educational institutions for the gifted were studied with the help of questionnaires and interviews. The survey showed that there were no significant differences between the two subject groups in relation to the external images of scientists. The subjects turned out to have four fixed external images. The scientifically gifted students had a better understanding of the internal images of scientists than ordinary elementary school students. Both the subject groups turned out to be influenced by the press media and off-campus education, thinking that scientists served as inventors producing something useful in daily life rather than as researchers studying natural phenomena or laws. It was found out that both groups admired Edison. The ordinary students respected Einstein and Jang Yeong-Sil whereas the scientifically gifted students respected Curie, Jang Yeong-Sil, and Nobel. The subjects admired them because of their achievements instead of their backgrounds or individual characteristics.

This paper aims for the development of the high power sonar system for measuring the distance and the velocity of a moving object. The high power sonar system transmits two gated 190 KHz sinusoidal signals with 1.6〔ms〕 time interval to the moving object. Then the sonar system detects and calculates the changed time delay of the reflected ultrasonic signals in order to derive the velocity of the moving object. The transmission part uses a high power amplifier so that 250W gated sinusoidal signals can be transmitted to the transmitter. 1M RAM is utilized for transmitting and storing of the ultrasonic signals. The time delay is calculated by the cross-correlation technique between the transmitted signals and the received signals. The measured value from the high power sonar system is compared with directly measured values by photo diodes. The result confirms the adjacency to 0.3% error.

Nowadays, as the industrial technology and instrumentation are developed, the interest of the characteristic improvement of sound absorbing materials is rising. Recently new sound absorbing materials are being developed and manufactured for commercialization. But most of sound absorbing materials are polymer-typed or are fabricated by polymers (mixtures of polymer and glass fiber, asbestos...) for better physical characteristic. However, there was not much research about sound absorption change by the change of the ionic nature. In this paper, I composed polymers that include alkaline or acid, or other polymer that have the ionic nature to improve sound absorption characteristic and searched the characteristic pattern of the sound absorption of polymer. I used probe microphone instead of 1/4 condenser microphone such as two- microphone method in order to measure in-duct absorption coefficient of specimen of ionomers that are thin and small so that measuring absorption coefficient is not well defined.

Objective The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the Soma experiencing motion (Soma e-motion) program on interoceptive awareness and self-compassion among novices. Methods A total of 19 adults (clinical group=9, non-clinical group=10) participated in the intervention. Psychological and physical changes after program were qualitatively analyzed using in-depth interviews. The Korean Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (K-MAIA) and the Korean version of the Self-Compassion Scale (K-SCS) were used as quantitative measures. Results The non-clinical group showed statistically significant differences in the K-MAIA scores (z=-2.805, p<0.01) and K-SCS scores (z=-2.191, p<0.05); however, the clinical group showed no significant differences (K-MAIA: z=-0.652, p>0.05; K-SCS: z=-0.178, p>0.05). According to the in-depth interviews, the results of the qualitative analysis were categorized into five dimensions (psychological and emotional, physical, cognitive, behavioral, and aspects participants found challenging and needs improvement). Conclusion The Soma e-motion program was feasible for improving interoceptive awareness and self-compassion in the non-clinical group. However, further research is needed to investigate the clinical efficacy of the Soma e-motion program for clinical group.

Background: The present study was designed to prepare and find the optimum active preparation orfraction from Korea Red Ginseng inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) expression, becauseMMP-13 is a pivotal enzyme to degrade the collagen matrix of the joint cartilage. Methods: From total red ginseng ethanol extract, n-BuOH fraction (total ginsenoside-enriched fraction),ginsenoside diol-type-enriched fraction (GDF), and ginsenoside triol-type-enriched fraction (GTF) wereprepared, and ginsenoside diol type-/F4-enriched fraction (GDF/F4) was obtained from Panax ginseng leafextract. Results: The n-BuOH fraction, GDF, and GDF/F4 clearly inhibited MMP-13 expression compared tointerleukin-1b-treated SW1353 cells (human chondrosarcoma), whereas the total extract and ginsenosidediol-type-enriched fraction did not. In particular, GDF/F4, the most effective inhibitor, blocked theactivation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK), c-Jun-activated protein kinase (JNK), andsignal transducer and activator of transcription-1/2 (STAT-1/2) among the signal transcription pathwaysinvolved. Further, GDF/F4 also inhibited the glycosaminoglycan release from interleukin-1a-treatedrabbit cartilage culture (30.6% inhibition at 30 mg/mL). Conclusion: Some preparations from Korean Red Ginseng and ginseng leaves, particularly GDF/F4, maypossess the protective activity against cartilage degradation in joint disorders, and may have potential asnew therapeutic agents.

A cDNA encoding RARF1 (rice ADP-ribosylation factor 1) was isolated from fungal elicitor-treated rice suspension culture cells by mRNA differential display. RARF1 transcripts accumulated in response to hydrogen peroxide (H_(2)O_(2)) and salicylic acid (SA) and rapidly in cells inoculated with an avirulent pathogen. Constitutively over-expressed RARF1 under the control of the cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter (CaMV 35S) triggered spontaneous induction of lesion mimics, induced an array of pathogenosis-related (PR) genes, reduced susceptibility to a fungal pathogen, and caused accumulation of SA. From these data, we deduced that RARF1 might be a component of various plant defence signaling pathways involved in inducing the expression of a subset of PR genes.

A benign pulmonary metastasizing leiomyoma is a recognized clinical entity that has been infrequently reported in the medical literature. We report two cases of a benign pulmonary metastasizing leiomyoma. A 35-year-old woman who underwent myomectomy and a cesarean section approximately 6 years earlier visited our hospital for further evaluation of incidentally revealed multiple lung nodules. A diagnostic percutaneuous biopsy was performed. Finally she was diagnosed with a benign metastasizing leiomyoma. The patient then received LH-RH and has been followed up since. The other 44-year-old woman presented after an initial radiology evaluation revealed the presence of multiple, small-sized lung nodules. She underwent a right middle lung wedge resection to confirm the diagnosis. Finally she diagnosed with a benign metastasizing leiomyoma. The multiple lung nodules have been followed up closely.
