        The immediate effect of incorporating short-term slow abdominal respiration into an exercise program on balance and the autonomic nervous system

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the possible effects of incorporating short-term slow-abdominal respiration (SAR) into an exercise program, on balance and the cardiac-related autonomic nervous system (ANS). Design: Cross-over repeated measures design. Methods: Fifteen young and healthy adults were randomly assigned into two groups (7 in the C-R group, 8 in the R-C group), each of which carried out both control sequence (C) and respiration-experiment sequence (R) in the inverse order. In the C sequence, the subjects performed passive exercises and a general exercise program (P-GEP). In the R sequence, the subjects received a short-term SAR training session and then performed the respiration incorporated general exercises program (R-RGEP). Before and after both C and R sequences, the length and the area of the displacement of the center of pressure (COP) and heart rate variability parameters were measured. Results: The total length of the COP displacement in the left single-leg-standing condition showed a significantly greater reduction after R-RGEP in the respiration-experiment sequence than after the P-GEP in the control sequence (p<0.05). The mean heart rate was significantly reduced only after R-RGEP in the respiration-experiment sequence (p<0.05) Conclusions: The slow-abdominal-respiration, trained in a simple manner and integrated into the exercise program in a single session, showed partially positive immediate effects on balance stabilization. The decrease in heart rate indicated possible involvement of the parasympathetic ANS activation in the stability, although it is not enough to decide whether it is purely due to the controlled respiration.

        Prevalence of Indigenous Antibiotic-Resistant Salmonella Isolates and Their Application to Explore a Lytic Phage vB_SalS_KFSSM with an Intra-Broad Specificity

        The consumption of fresh produce has led to increase in antibiotic-resistant (AR) Salmonella outbreaks. In this study, indigenous Salmonella was isolated from a total of two hundred-two samples including fresh produce and agricultural environmental samples in Korea. After biochemical confirmation using the Indole, Methyl Red, Voges-Proskauer, Citrate tests, presumable Salmonella isolates were identified by 16S rRNA sequencing. Identified Salmonella isolates were evaluated for antibiotic susceptibility against twenty-two antibiotics. The specificity and the efficiency of plating (EOP) of vB_SalS_KFSSM were evaluated against fifty-three bacterial strains. Twenty-five suspected Salmonella were isolated and confirmed by the positive result for methyl red and citrate, of which ten were identified as Salmonella spp. through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Eight Salmonella isolates (4.0%, n = 8/202) were resistant to at least one antibiotic, among which five were multi-drug resistant. As a lytic phage against Salmonella spp. CMGS-1, vB_SalS_KFSSM was isolated from cow manure. The phage was observed as a tailed phage belonging to the class Caudoviricetes. It exhibited an intra-broad specificity against four indigenous AR Salmonella isolates, two indigenous Salmonella isolates, and five other Salmonella serotypes with great efficiencies (EOP ≥ 0.75). Thus, this study suggested the potential of vB_SalS_KFSSM to combat indigenous AR Salmonella.

        도시지역 연소노인들의 사회참여와 동기 요인간의 관련성

        이 연구는 도시지역에 거주하는 50ㆍ60대 남녀를 대상으로 하여, 사회참여와 관련된 다양한 동기 측면들을 살펴보고, 동기 요인과 사회참여 정도간의 관련성을 실증적으로 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여, 서울과 광주, 청주, 전주의 4개 도시지역에 거주하는 50ㆍ60대 남녀 1,713명을 대상으로 하여 자료를 수집하였다. 사회참여 정도는 11가지의 조직화된 활동에 대한 참여 여부를 통해 파악하였고, 사회참여와 관련된 동기는 자기지향 동기와 관계지향 동기, 그리고 사회지향 동기의 세 가지 동기 요인을 살펴보았다. 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 응답자들의 동기수준을 살펴본 결과, 세 가지 동기 요인 중 자기지향 동기와 관계지향 동기가 상당히 높은 것으로 나타나, 도시지역에 거주하는 50ㆍ60대의 연소노인들이 자신의 삶을 향상시키고 타인과 친밀한 관계를 맺고자 하는 바램이 큼을 시사한다. 둘째, 동기 요인과 사회참여 정도와의 관련성을 회귀분석을 통해 살펴본 결과, 관계지향 동기와 사회지향 동기가 높을수록 사회참여의 정도가 높았지만, 자기지향 동기는 사회참여 정도와 유의한 관련성을 보이지 않았다. 셋째, 사회참여의 정도나 유형, 그리고 동기 수준에서는 남성과 여성이 상이한 양상을 보였지만, 동기 요인과 사회참여 정도간의 관련성에서는 젠더에 따른 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 현재 50ㆍ60대의 연소노인들이 타인과 활발하게 상호작용하고 사회에 기여하고자 하는 동기에서 사회참여활동을 하고 있음을 의미한다. 또한 노년기 사회참여를 보다 활성화하기 위해서는 사회참여 활동들을 통해 즐거움을 얻고 스스로의 삶의 향상시키는 기회가 될 수 있도록 방안을 마련하는 것이 요구된다. The purpose of this study was to explore the factors related to social participation of Korean young-old adults residing in urban area with a focus on the effects of various motivations. In addition, this study examined gender differences in the relationships between social participation and motivations of social participation. Self-oriented motivation, network-oriented motivation, and society-oriented motivation were considered as motivations of social participation. The study subjects were 836 men and 877 women aged 50-69. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires in 2009. Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between motivations and the level of social participation using the SAS program. Main results were as follows: 1) The network-oriented motivation and society-oriented motivations were significantly related to the level of social participation; 2) Although men and women significantly differed in the patterns of social participation, gender differences were not found in the relationships between the social participation and motivations. These findings imply that network-oriented motivation and society-oriented motivation are important for facilitating the social participation of Korean young elderly. Further implications were discussed.

        정보화 사회의 발전과 인터넷의 급속한 확산으로 인하여 디지털 콘텐츠에 대한 수요 및 생산되는 콘텐츠의 수가 기하급수적으로 증가하고 있다. 그러나 디지털 콘텐츠는 생산 및 수집 시기, 그리고 저장 방법 등에 따라 그 형태가 매우 다양하므로 디지털 콘텐츠를 표준화할 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 디지털 콘텐츠의 메타데이터 타입을 표준화하기 위한 새로운 메타데이터 타입을 정의한다. 제안하는 메타데이터 타입은 XML 형태로 기술하며 디지털 콘텐츠의 국제 표준 메타데이터인 더블린코어에 기초하여 정의한다. 제안 방법은 더블린코어에서 정의한 주요소에 역할 속성을 추가하여 콘텐츠 생산에 직간접적으로 영향을 준 생산자 정보를 표현할 수 있다. 또한 제안하는 방법은 콘텐츠 생산에 관련된 연관 콘텐츠 정보를 유지함으로써 디지털 콘텐츠 간의 연관 관계를 표현할 수 있다.
