        교대제형태에 따른 지하철 남성 근로자들의 수면의 질과 관련요인

        배경 교번제 근무에 의해 지하철 근로자들의 수면의 질은 영향을 받고 있으나 기존 연구자체가 교번제를 행하는 지하철 기관사들만을 대상으로 하여 3교대 근로자 및 비교대 근무자의 수면의 질 점수와 수면장애군 분포의 차이를 비교할 수 없었고 수면에 영향을 끼치는 요인들을 파악할 수 없었다 이에 본 연구는 교번제와 3교대제 및 비 교대제 근로자들 간에 수면의 질의 차이가 있는지와 영향을 끼치는 요인들에 어떤 것들이 있는 지를 분석하기 위해 본 연구를 수행하였다 방법 2007년도 5월 초에 일개 지하철공사에 근무하는 모든 근로자를 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 배포하였으며 2007년 5월말까지 회수되었다 회수된 설문지 중 수면의 질 평가설문지를 완벽히 기재하지 않은 70(6.93%)명과 그 수가 많지 않은 여성 근로자 36(3.56%)명을 제외한 759(75.15%)명의 남성 지하철근로자를 대상으로 설문분석을 시행하였다 자기기입식 설문지를 통하여 얻어진 자료를 SPSS (ver 12.0)프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였다 결과 교번제 근로자들이 직무요구와 직무불안정을 제외한 모든 직무스트레스점수 영역에서 가장 높은 점수를 차지하고 있으며 한국형직무스트레스 중앙값과의 비교에서도 교번제 근로자 중에서 직무스트레스 하부항목의 평균값 이상의 비율이 높았다 비교대 근무근로자들은 직무요구 직무불안정 항목에서 가장 높은 점수를 나타내었다 교대제에 따른 수면의 질 점수에서도 교번제 근로자들의 평균값이 5.1로 수면의 질 증상 점수인 5점을 넘고 있었으며 교대제에 따라 수면의 질 점수와 증상분포에 차이를 보였다 수면의 질은 직무요구가 높고 외적통제 신념이 강할수록 지난 1년간 아차사고를 경험하였거나 업무 중 사고를 경험하였을 때 나빠지며 비교대제 이거나 내적통제신념이 강할수록 좋아지는 결과를 보였다 결론 교번제에서 수면의 질 평균점수가 가장 높고 증상군의 비율도 가장 높았으며 직무스트레스의 대다수 항목에서 가장 높았다 지하철근로자들의 수면의 질 향상을 위해서는 교번제를 가급적 줄이는 교대제 체계의 개선 및 직무요구의 적절한 분배 내적통제신념 등의 향상과 사고 및 아차사고에 노출되는 교번제와 3교대 근로자들을 위한 사고 예방교육이 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다 Background The sleep quality of subway drivers who work in the dark underground with an rotating shift system is generally poor, which can degrade the quality of a worker's life This study examined the relationship between the sleep quality of subway worker and shift work by comparing three shift systems (rotating shift system, a three day shift system and no shift system). Method Questionnaires including The short form of the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire (PSQI), the worker's age gender job type, accident, near miss and shift system were given to a total of 1010 workers The results of 759 qualified questionnaires (75.15 %) were analyzed using the SPSS (ver 12.0) program. Result The highest level of job stress was found among those working a rotating shift system followed by three shift system and no-shift system. The mean sleep quality score in the rotating shift workers was 5.1 (SD±3.2), which was greater than the sleep symptom score (5) 34.8% of rotating shift workers suffered from sleep symptoms. The sleep quality score by shift-work was significantly different High job demand, strong external locus control, the experience of a near miss or an accident in the workplace during previous year has an adverse affect on the sleep quality The sleep quality improved in case of a change into a no-shift system or a strong internal locus control. Conclusion A rotating shift system is more harmful to the quality of sleep in subway workers than a 3 shift system or no-shift system. In addition, job stress, personality, near miss and the experience of an accident affect the sleep quality of subway workers.

        To commercialize perovskite photovoltaics, scalable fabrication procedure for them is inevitable. Numerous research has been concentrated on the development of solution-based scalable processes because of the relatively low cost and the customizability. Although vacuum thermal evaporation methods have various advantages such as safety, scalability, and versatility, the methods have not been intensively studied. In this regard, here we briefly introduce the benefits and drawbacks, of the vacuum thermal evaporation, which are explored to achieve the mass production of efficient perovskite solar cells.

        The impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is the global issue over the world. Korean government has presented various policies to induce GHG reduction for the industries with high energy consumption such as power generation and chemistry. Construction sector has produced a large amount of GHG emissions resulted in the energy consumption of heavy equipments and the use of materials. This study aims to suggest the QA (Quality Assurance) and QC (Quality Control) method to identify and quantify the GHG emissions released from heavy equipments in the railroad construction sector. Generally, the accuracy and reliability of GHG inventory is dependent on the data collection. Therefore, it is necessary to mange the detailed statements for the fuel consumption of heavy equipments and the quantity of work in the field. Also, the breakdown of GHG emission sources should be recorded from the design step of railroad infrastructures. Based on these data, the GHG reduction technologies and polices can be applied in railroad construction sector.

      • Nonselective Blocking of the Sympathetic Nervous System Decreases Detrusor Overactivity in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats

        <P>The involuntary dual control systems of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in the bladder of awake spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) were investigated through simultaneous registrations of intravesical and intraabdominal pressures to observe detrusor overactivity (DO) objectively as a core symptom of an overactive bladder. SHRs (<I>n</I> = 6) showed the features of overactive bladder syndrome during urodynamic study, especially DO during the filling phase. After injection of the nonselective sympathetic blocking agent labetalol, DO disappeared in 3 of 6 SHRs (50%). DO frequency decreased from 0.98 ± 0.22 min<SUP>−1</SUP> to 0.28 ± 0.19 min<SUP>−1</SUP> (<I>p</I> < 0.01), and DO pressure decreased from 3.82 ± 0.57 cm H<SUB>2</SUB>O to 1.90 ± 0.86 cm H<SUB>2</SUB>O (<I>p</I> < 0.05). This suggests that the DO originating from the overactive parasympathetic nervous system is attenuated by the nonselective blocking of the sympathetic nervous system. The detailed mechanism behind this result is still not known, but parasympathetic overactivity seems to require overactive sympathetic nervous system activity in a kind of balance between these two systems. These findings are consistent with recent clinical findings suggesting that patients with idiopathic overactive bladder may have ANS dysfunction, particularly a sympathetic dysfunction. The search for newer and better drugs than the current anticholinergic drugs as the mainstay for overactive bladder will be fueled by our research on these sympathetic mechanisms. Further studies of this principle are required.</P>

      • <i>Ulmus macrocarpa</i> Hance Extracts Attenuated H <sub>2</sub> O <sub>2</sub> and UVB-Induced Skin Photo-Aging by Activating Antioxidant Enzymes and Inhibiting MAPK Pathways

        <P>To protect from reactive oxygen species (ROS) damages, skin cells have evolved to have antioxidant enzymes, such as copper and zinc-dependent superoxide dismutase (SOD1), mitochondrial manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase (SOD2), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and glutathione reductase (GR), and suppressed the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) through the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, such as c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38. Bioactive compounds analyses were performed using a high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detector (HPLC-PDA) system. The antioxidant activity of <I>Ulmus macrocarpa</I> Hance (UMH) extracts was estimated in vitro. The anti-aging activity of UMH extracts was estimated in vivo using the SKH-1 hairless mice. The UMH extracts reduced the H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced intracellular ROS production and the cell damages in human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). Moreover, the H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced phosphorylation of JNK and p38 was detected in HDF and UMH extracts blocked the phosphorylation. These results suggest that UMH extracts can reduce the expression of MMPs and the reduced MMPs lead to the inhibition of collagen degradation. In addition, oral administration of the UMH extracts decreased the depth, thickness, and length of wrinkles on UVB exposed hairless mice. Therefore, UMH extracts play an advantage of the functional materials in antioxidant and anti-aging of skin.</P>

        Association between the Self-Perception Period of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and the International Prostate Symptom Score

        <P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Objectives:</I></B> The timing of visiting a hospital after self-perception of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) is different between individuals. The association between the self-perception period (S-PP) of LUTS and the progression of LUTS has seldom been documented. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the S-PP of LUTS and the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). <B><I>Subjects and Methods:</I></B> This was a cross-sectional study comprising 267 men aged 40 years and older who participated in a prostate examination survey between February and May 2009. Survey questionnaires included items on the IPSS, the S-PPs of seven individual LUTSs assessed in the IPSS. <B><I>Results:</I></B> The S-PP of LUTS became significantly longer as the severity of LUTS increased. Of the seven symptoms, a weak urinary stream and nocturia showed longer S-PPs than others. Partial correlation between the S-PP and IPSS showed a statistically significant positive correlation. Linear regression analysis showed a statistically significant relationship that unstandardized coefficients included 0.051 and 0.005 for IPSS and quality of life. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> These findings suggest that the S-PP is an independent risk factor for LUTS progression. S-PPs have to be considered for treatment or prevention of LUTS.</P><P>Copyright © 2012 S. Karger AG, Basel</P>
