<P>The La<SUB>0.4</SUB>Sr<SUB>0.6</SUB>TiO<SUB>3</SUB> (LST) is considered as a candidate material for anodes to solve the drawbacks of Ni-based cermets in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In this work, LST materials are fabricated with highly conductive Nd<SUB>0.1</SUB>Ce<SUB>0.9</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> (NDC) electrolytes and characterized to investigate the feasibility of SOFCs at the intermediate temperature (IT). In addition, LST is composited with the NDC to improve the ionic conductivity and decrease the thermal expansion mismatch of anode materials to the electrolyte. The electrochemical impedance spectra analysis shows that the area specific resistance of the LST-NDC composite anode decreases with increasing NDC concentrations and a ratio of 7:3 (LST:NDC) in weight fraction exhibits the lowest polarization resistance value at 650. The maximum power density of the LST-NDC composite anode-cell is 143 mW cm<SUP>-2</SUP> at 650. We thus confirm that LST could be used as an anode material for the application of IT-SOFCs.</P>
Comparison of Preferred Real-Ear Insertion Gain between Open- and Closed-Canal Fitting Hearing Aids

Purpose: To calculate the real-ear insertion gain (REIG) according to the types of hearing aids, we evaluated the preferred REIGs of Korean hearing-impaired listeners and psychoacoustic differences between open-canal fitting (OF) and closed-canal fitting (CF). Methods: The subjects with sensorineural hearing loss were divided into OF group (4 monaural fittings, 15 binaural fittings with 34 ears), and CF group (8 monaural fittings, 13 binaural fittings with 34 ears). There were no statistical differences in hearing threshold level (HTL) at each octave frequencies, word recognition score (WRS) and Korean Adaptation of the International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids (K-IOI-HA) between the two groups. When there was no need for further electroacoustic adjustment of the hearing aid, sharpness and occlusion of amplified sound, clarity of sentence, and loudness of noise were evaluated based on the everyday experience. And REIGs with international speech test signal and WRS in sound-treated room were measured. Results: Preferred REIG for HTL was low for OF compared to CF in 0.5 kHz and 0.75 kHz at input SPL of 55 dB, 0.5 kHz at 60 dB SPL, 0.25 kHz and 0.5 kHz at 80 dB SPL. However, there were no differences in aided WRS and psychoacoustics between the two groups. Conclusion: In this study, the preferred REIG of OF and CF groups showed a difference under 0.75 kHz although there were no psychoacoustic differences between the two groups. Therefore, the results of this study should be considered when formulating Korean-type hearing aid fitting formula.
Characterization of TNNC1 as a Novel Tumor Suppressor of Lung Adenocarcinoma

In this study, we describe a novel function of TNNC1 (Troponin C1, Slow Skeletal and Cardiac Type), a component of actin-bound troponin, as a tumor suppressor of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). First, the expression of TNNC1 was strongly down-regulated in cancer tissues compared to matched normal lung tissues, and down-regulation of TNNC1 was shown to be strongly correlated with increased mortality among LUAD patients. Interestingly, TNNC1 expression was enhanced by suppression of KRAS, and ectopic expression of TNNC1 in turn inhibited KRAS<SUP>G12D</SUP>-mediated anchorage independent growth of NIH3T3 cells. Consistently, activation of KRAS pathway in LUAD patients was shown to be strongly correlated with down-regulation of TNNC1. In addition, ectopic expression of TNNC1 inhibited colony formation of multiple LUAD cell lines and induced DNA damage, cell cycle arrest and ultimately apoptosis. We further examined potential correlations between expression levels of TNNC1 and various clinical parameters and found that low-level expression is significantly associated with invasiveness of the tumor. Indeed, RNA interference-mediated down-regulation of TNNC1 led to significant enhancement of invasiveness in vitro. Collectively, our data indicate that TNNC1 has a novel function as a tumor suppressor and is targeted for down-regulation by KRAS pathway during the carcinogenesis of LUAD.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Pd-Pt bimetallic catalysts have been studied for improvement of H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> selectivity in direct synthesis of H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>; however, the role of Pt on the Pd surface has not been clearly identified. Herein, we investigated the role of Pt atoms on Pd(1 1 1) facets by realizing the surface in two different ways: nano-synthesis and density functional theory (DFT) calculation model. Pd(1 1 1) were modified into 3 kinds of Pd-Pt-alloyed surfaces, a minor Pt-substituted Pd, a major Pt-substituted Pd and a Pt-shell, covering bulk Pd. We successfully embedded Pt atoms in the octahedral Pd surface. Reaction tests showed that the minor Pt-substituted octahedral Pd catalyst had the highest H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> selectivity, production rate and the lowest H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> decomposition rate. The experimental results were consistent with our DFT calculations which predicted the lowest activation barrier for the O<SUB>2</SUB> hydrogenation step and the highest one for the H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> dissociation step on the minor Pt-substituted Pd surface.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Pd(1 1 1) were modified into Pd-Pt-alloyed surfaces with various ratios of Pt and Pd. </LI> <LI> A minor Pt-substituted Pd octahedral catalyst showed enhanced H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> selectivity. </LI> <LI> O<SUB>2</SUB> hydrogenation was favored on the PdPt1 surface in terms of activation barriers. </LI> <LI> H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> dissociation and H<SUB>2</SUB>O formation were not favored on the PdPt1 surface. </LI> <LI> The experimental results were consistent with our calculations. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
뉴스에 나타난 여성스포츠선수 관련 이슈의 변화: 키워드네트워크 활용

이 연구는 키워드 네트워크 분석기법을 활용하여 여성스포츠선수와 관련된 뉴스기사 키워드를 확인하고 이를 통해 20년간 일어난 이슈의 변화를 확인하는 것이 목적이다. 이 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 2001년부터 2021년까지 보도된 2,550개의 뉴스를 수집하여 2001년부터 2005년까지를 1구간, 2006년부터 2010년까지를 2구간, 2011년부터 2015년까지를 3구간, 2016년부터 2021년까지를 4구간으로 구분한 후 키워드 네트워크 분석을 수행하였다. 자료처리는 Ms-Excel과 Netminer 4.2 프로그램을 활용하여 키워드들의 빈도분석, 연결중앙성 분석을 수행하였다. 이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 여성스포츠선수 관련 주요 키워드로는‘여성’, ‘여성스포츠선수’, ‘김연아’, ‘마리아샤라포바’, ‘노는언니’ 등으로 나타났다. 시계열적 관점에서 분석한 여성스포츠선수에 대한 뉴스 이슈의 변화에서는 뉴스의 수가 증가하였다는 것 외 내용에서 는 변화가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 키워드 네트워크 분석 내에서 중복적으로 나타난 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성스포츠선수‘미쉘위’, ‘소렌스탐’, ‘세레나윌리엄스’, ‘김연아’ 선수의 연봉, 영향력 있는 선수 선정, 수상 등에 대한 뉴스가 다수 보도되는 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째, ‘김연아’ 선수를 중심으로 한 ‘패션’, ‘드레스’, ‘화제’, ‘광고’ 또는 여성스포츠선수가 출연하는 예능 프로그램에 대한 ‘노는언니’, ‘예능’, ‘박세리’, ‘한유미’, ‘노는브로’등 스타성에 대한 내용의 기사가 보도되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 여성스포츠선수와 관련된 기사들의 키워드가 경기결과 보다는 스타성, 인기종목에 한정되고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. Kane and Maxwell의 연구결과가 언론에 영향을 미쳤듯이 이 연구의 결과 또한 언론에서 보도되고 있는 여성스포츠선수들에 대한 뉴스 키워드를 변화시키길 기대해본다. This study aims to utilize keyword network analysis to identify the news article keywords related to female sports players and confirm changes in issues through them. To this study, 2,550 news reports were collected from 2001 to 2021. Keyword network analysis was carried out after dividing four sections: section 1 (2001-2005), section 2 (2006-2010), section 3 (2011-2015), and section 4 (2016-2021). Data processing utilized Ms-Excel and Netminer 4.2 programs to analyze the frequency of keyword and degree centrality. The study results are as follows. Essential keywords related to female sports players include ‘female', ‘female sports players', ‘Yuna Kim', ‘Maria Sharapova', and ‘playful sister'. The change in news issues for female sports players analyzed from a time-series perspective showed no change in content other than the increase in the news. Identical results within keyword network analysis are as follows. First, many news reports on female sports players ‘Michelle Wie West’, ‘Annika Sorenstam’, ‘Serena Williams’ and ‘Yuna Kim’ their annual salary, selection of influential players, and awards are reported. Second, articles on star quality such as ‘Fashion', ‘Dress', ‘Talent', ‘Advertising' or entertainment programs featuring female sports players, such as ‘playful sister', ‘Entertainment', ‘Pak Se-ri', ‘Han Yumi' and ‘playful bro' are reported. This study confirmed that the keywords of articles related to female sports players are limited to sports stars and popularity rather than match results.

This study tried to find a group of academic courses based on the usage levels and patterns of Learning Management System (LMS) utilized in higher education using clustering techniques. LMS is an essential technology to support virtual learning environment where students access to the learning materials that their instructors provide, submit the deliverables, and participate in various learning activities involving group projects, discussion forums, quizzes, and Wikis. However, the returns on large investment have not systematically performed in terms of what extent of students and instructors have utilized the system for their teaching and learning. In this study, 2,639 courses opened during 2013 fall semester in a large private university located in South Korea were analyzed with 13 observation variables that represent the characteristics of academic courses. Three clustering methods including Gaussian Mixture Model, K-Means clustering, and Hierarchical clustering contributed to (1) identifying large number of courses that show inactive and no usage of LMS, (2) disclosing the dramatically imbalanced clusters, and (3) identifying several clusters that present different usage patterns of LMS. The results of such academic analytics provide meaningful implications for academic leaders and university staff to make strategic decisions on the development of LMS.
