      • Adaptive defogging with color correction in the HSV color space for consumer surveillance system

        <P>Consumer video surveillance systems often suffer from bad weather conditions, observed objects lose visibility and contrast due to the presence of atmospheric haze, fog, and smoke. In this paper, we present an image defogging algorithm with color correction in the HSV color space for video processing. We first generate a modified transmission map of the image segmentation using multiphase level set formulation from the intensity (V) values. We also estimate atmospheric light in the intensity (V) values. The proposed method can significantly enhance the visibility of foggy video frames using the estimated atmospheric light and the modified transmission map. Another contribution of the proposed work is the compensation of color distortion between consecutive frames using the temporal difference ratio of HSV color channels. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be applied to consumer video surveillance systems for removing atmospheric artifacts without color distortion.</P>

        영상의 색상분석을 사용한 대기 열화 영상의 가시성 향상

        In this paper, we present an image enhancement method for atmospherically degraded images using atmospheric light and transmission based on color analysis. We first generate a normalized image using maximum value of each RGB color channel. Then, each atmospheric light is estimated from RGB color channel respectively by calculating reflectance of an image. We also, generate a transmission using gamma coefficients from the Y channel of the image. We can significantly enhance the visibility of an image by using the estimated atmospheric light and the transmission. The proposed algorithm can remove atmospheric degradation components better than existing techniques because the color prevents color distortion which is common problem of existing techniques. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve visibility be removing fog, smoke, and dust. 본 논문에서는 대기 열황 영상의 색상 분석을 통해 대기값과 전달률을 추정하여 대기 열화 요인을 제거함으로써 영상의 가시성을 향상시키는 알고리듬을 제안한다. 제안하는 알고리듬은 RGB채널의 최대값을 이용하여 영상을 정규화 시키고, 반사율을 이용하여 RGB 채널 각각의 적응적 대기값을 추정한다. 또한 영상의 Y채널의 감마보정을 통해 전달률을 생성한다. 결과적으로 대기값과 전달률을 이용하여 대기 열화 요인을 제거함으로써 가시성이 향상된 영상을 얻는다. 제안된 방법은 영상의 색상을 분석하기 때문에 기존의 기술의 문제점인 색상왜곡을 억제하고, 효과적으로 영상을 복원함으로써 가시성 향상에 있어서 뛰어난 성능을 보인다. 그 결과 제안된 알고리듬은 안개, 연기, 먼지 등과 같은 다양한 대기중의 불순물에 의한 화질 열화를 효과적으로 제거하여 가시성 향상에 기여할 수 있다.

        Body Composition and Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal Women with Advanced Knee Osteoarthritis Undergoing Surgical Treatment

        Objectives: This study aimed to demonstrate the bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition in postmenopausal women with knee osteoarthritis (OA) who underwent surgical treatment, such as total knee arthroplasty, osteotomy, or meniscectomy.Methods: A total of 254 women with OA aged 50 years who underwent surgical treatment were enrolled in this study. We evaluated obesity-related factors, muscle components, and BMD using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.Results: No significant differences were noted in the BMD of the hip joint between the symptomatic side of the leg with knee OA and the contralateral side. However, when comparing the BMD of each component, the results indicated a significantly higher BMD in the obesity group based on body mass index (BMI). When defining sarcopenic obesity (SO) using various indicators of obesity (BMI, the estimated visceral adipose tissue area, android/gynoid ratio, and total body fat percentage), the prevalence of SO in the OA group who underwent surgical treatment ranged from 22.0% to 49.6%.Conclusions: This study investigated obesity-related factors in patients with advanced knee OA who underwent surgery, revealing a high prevalence of overweight/obese individuals, the presence of SO, and a complex relationship between obesity, body composition, and bone density, highlighting the potential protective effects of weight-bearing on bone health while exploring the impact of sarcopenia on bone density differences in the context of OA. Depending on various definitions of obesity, diverse proportions of SO in patients with OA have been observed, and further detailed research is required to understand its impact on the condition.

        본 연구의 목적은 신입생의 기숙형 대학(Residential College, 이하 RC) 생활을 지원하는 통합 어플리케이션 서비스를 제안하는 것이다. 특히 서비스 이용자인 신입생이 RC 생활을 통해 건강증진 생활습관까지 함양하도록 하는 데 중점을 두고자 한다. 자아정체감 확립 및 심리·사회적 성장이 촉진되는 초기 성인기에 정착된 건강행동은 개인의 향후 건강행위 및 사회보건 문제와도 연관된다. 그러나 전인적 발달을 목표로 하는 RC 제도에서 지속적인 건강행동에 대한 중재는 아직 부족한 것으로 보인다. 이에 본 연구는 단일 사례연구를 통하여 RC 구성원의 요구를 파악하고 기존 서비스를 분석하여 통합 플랫폼 모형을 제시한 다음 MVP 테스트를 수행하였다. 본 연구를 토대로 한 서비스개발은 RC 를 구성하는 주체(신입생, Residential Assistant, RC 교육원)의 편의성을 고려하는 한편, 초기 성인기에 진입한 신입생의 균형 잡힌 건강발달에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

        고령친화환경의 조절효과를 통한 노인의 인지기능과 기술사용 용이성 인식의 관계 : 운동보조 웨어러블 로봇기기 사용을 중심으로

        본 연구는 노인의 인지기능과 기술사용 용이성 인식의 관계를 고령친화환경이 어떻게 조절하는지 알아보고자 수행되었다. 대한민국에 거주하는 만 65세 이상 74세 미만 전기노인 277명을 대상으로 중다회귀분석을 실시하여 조절효과의 유의성을 검증하였으며, 물리적 고령친화환경, 서비스 고령친화환경, 사회문화적 고령친화환경이 개별적인 조절변수로 각 분석모형에 포함되었다. 조절효과분석은 SPSS PROCESS Macro Model 1을 사용하였으며, 조절효과의 심층적 탐색을 위해 단순 기울기(Simple Slope)와 존슨-네이만(Johnson-Neyman Technique) 분석을 병행하였다. 조절효과 분석결과, 인지기능이 기술사용 용이성 인식에 미치는 영향에서 유의한 조절효과를 가진 고령친화환경의 하위 항목은 서비스 환경(B=-.180, p<.05)과 사회문화적 환경(B=-.199, p<.05)이었고, 물리적 환경의 조절효과는 나타나지 않았다(B=-.070, n.s.). 즉 인지기능이 낮을수록, 웨어러블 로봇기기를 사용하기 쉽다고 생각하는 기술사용 용이성 인식정도가 낮아지지만, 자신이 살고 있는 지역의 고령친화 정도가 서비스 환경과 사회문화적 환경 측면에서 높다고 인식할수록 인지기능이사용 용이성 인식에 미치는 영향이 완화되는 것이다. 기술사용 용이성 인식은 실제 기술사용으로 이어지게 하는 주요 요인이라는점에서, 상대적으로 자신의 인지기능이 저하되었다고 인식하는 노인들의 기술사용 용이성 인식을 높이는 것은 이들의 기술사용을촉진하는 역할을 할 것으로 예상할 수 있다. 기존의 고령친화환경을 이루는 도식과 요소에 기술의 자리를 마련하는 방안에 대한 연구자들의 노력과 정책적인 시도가 뒷받침되어야 할 것이며, 본 연구는 이를 위한 기초자료를 제공하였다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. This study examined how the age-friendly environment moderates the relationship between cognitive ability and the perceived ease of use of technology, especially on the wearable robots for mobility improvement, of older adults. Accordingly, a multiple regression analysis was conducted on 277 older adults aged 65-74 years living in Korea. SPSS PROCESS Macro Model 1 was used to analyze the moderating effect, and simple slope and Johnson-Neiman methods were conducted to understand the moderating effect in depth. As a result of the moderating effect analysis, the service-side environment and the socio-cultural environment moderated the relationships between cognitive ability and perceived ease of use of technology significantly. That is, the higher the degree of the age-friendly environment in the service-side and socio-cultural environment, the less impact of cognitive ability on the ease of use of technology. Since the perceived ease of use is one of the major factors leading to actual technology use, the result of this study suggests researchers efforts and policy attempts to provide a place for technology in the elements of the age-friendly environment are needed.

        Image Processing-based Validation of Unrecognizable Numbers in Severely Distorted License Plate Images

        This paper presents an image processing-based validation method for unrecognizable numbers in severely distorted license plate images which have been degraded by various factors including low-resolution, low light-level, geometric distortion, and periodic noise. Existing vehicle license plate recognition (LPR) methods assume that most of the image degradation factors have been removed before performing the recognition of printed numbers and letters. If this is not the case, conventional LPR becomes impossible. The proposed method adopts a novel approach where a set of reference number images are intentionally degraded using the same factors estimated from the input image. After a series of image processing steps, including geometric transformation, super-resolution, and filtering, a comparison using cross-correlation between the intentionally degraded reference and the input images can provide a successful identification of the visually unrecognizable numbers. The proposed method makes it possible to validate numbers in a license plate image taken under low light-level conditions. In the experiment, using an extended set of test images that are unrecognizable to human vision, the proposed method provides a successful recognition rate of over 95%, whereas most existing LPR methods fail due to the severe distortion.

        Multi-frame example-based super-resolution using locally directional self-similarity

        <P>This paper presents a multi-frame superresolution approach to reconstruct a high-resolution image from several low-resolution video frames. The proposed algorithm consists of three steps: i) definition of a local search region for the optimal patch using motion vectors, ii) adaptive selection of the optimum patch based on low-resolution image degradation model, and iii) combination of the optimum patch and reconstructed image. As a result, the proposed algorithm can remove interpolation artifacts using directionally adaptive patch selection based on the low-resolution image degradation model. Moreover, superresolved images without distortion between consecutive frames can be generated. The proposed method provides a significantly improved super-resolution performance over existing methods in the sense of both subjective and objective measures including peak-to-peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity measure (SSIM), and naturalness image quality evaluator (NIQE). The proposed multi-frame super-resolution algorithm is designed for realtime video processing hardware by reducing the search region for optimal patches, and suitable for consumer imaging devices including ultra-high-definition (UHD) digital televisions, surveillance systems, and medical imaging systems for image restoration and enhancement.</P>

        Fully digital auto-focusing system with automatic focusing region selection and point spread function estimation

        <P>We present a fully digital auto-focusing (FDAF) system with automatic focusing region selection and a priori estimated dataset of circularly symmetric point-spread functions (PSFs). The proposed approach provides realistic, unsupervised PSF estimation by analyzing the entropy and edge information in the automatically selected focusing region. The main advantage of the proposed system is the fast and robust estimation of a defocusing PSF due to simply selecting the optimal PSF in small, homogeneous region-ofinterest. The proposed FDAF system consists of functional units; i) focusing region selection, ii) PSF selection by generating the major step response in the region from the blurred input image, and iii) image restoration using the selected PSF. Experimental results show the proposed focusing region selection method is more effective than the traditional methods, and the resulting image of the FDAF system provides high visual quality with appropriately amplified details in the image. For this reason, the proposed algorithm can realize low-cost, intelligent focusing function for various image acquisition devices, such as digital cameras, mobile phone cameras, and consumer's camcorders.</P>
