<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We propose a spectral power shaping technique for use in intermediate frequency (IF) over fiber systems. The technique redistributes the power of nonlinear components by adjusting the spectral power of the signal. Experiments performed using 10 km distance transmission system show that the proposed technique effectively controls the power of the nonlinear components in a broadband system. The feasibility of the proposed technique was experimentally verified in terms of the error vector magnitude (EVM) and degree of channel linearity.</P>
Effects of Dry- and Wet-ageing on Flavor Compounds and Eating Quality of Low Fat Hanwoo Beef Muscles
Ha, Yoonkyung,Hwang, Inho,Van Ba, Hoa,Ryu, Sangdon,Kim, Younghoon,Kang, Sun Moon,Kim, Jinhyoung,Kim, Yunseok,Cho, Soohyun Korean Society for Food Science of Animal Resource 2019 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.39 No.4
The present study aimed at investigating the effects of dry- and wet-aging methods on flavor compounds and sensory properties of low fat Hanwoo beef muscles. All the beef samples were obtained from 2-grade carcasses of Hanwoo cows. The beef samples used in the dry- and wet-aging methods were prepared in the forms of quarter beef (bone-in) and cuts (boneless), respectively. The dry-aging was carried out at $2^{\circ}C-4^{\circ}C$ and humidity of 65%-85%, while the wet-aging was done at $1^{\circ}C$ for 0, 20, 40, and 60 d. At each aging time, three muscles: longissmus thoracis (LT), glutaeusmedus (GM) and semimembranosus (SM) were taken from the corresponding quarters and cuts, and used for the flavor compounds and sensory analyses. Results showed that both aging methods significantly increased the concentrations of flavor compounds and total amount of all classes of the flavor compounds as the aging time increased (p<0.05). In the dry-aging method, the GM and SM muscles presented significantly higher total amounts of pyrazines and sulfur-containing compounds compared to the LT muscle (p<0.05). Both the aging methods improved the eating quality attributes, indicating by increased scores of sensorial attributes with increased aging time for all the muscles studied (p<0.05). However, compared to the wet-aging, the dry-aging method resulted in significantly higher scores of tenderness and flavor for the GM and SM muscles after 40 to 60 d. Thus, postmortem aging, especially the dry-aging method could be used to improve eating quality attributes (tenderness and flavor) of low fat beef muscles such as GM and SM.

<P>Ectothermic animals rely on behavioral thermoregulation due to low capacity of heat production and storage. Previously, lizards were shown to achieve ‘fever’ during microbial infection by increasing their preferred body temperature (PBT) behaviorally, thereby attaining a relatively high survival rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether domesticated lizards pursued ‘behavioral hypothermia’ induced by a hypometabolic agent 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM). We found that treatment with 8.0 mg/kg T1AM caused a lizard species, the leopard gecko (<I>Eublepharis macularius</I>), to decrease its ventilation and oxygen consumption rates 0.64- and 0.76-fold, respectively, compared to those of the control (<I>P</I><0.05). The lizards, habituated at an ambient temperature of 30 ± 0.5°C, also showed a significant decrease in the PBT range over a freely accessible thermal gradient between 5°C and 45°C. The upper limit of the PBT in the treated lizards lowered from 31.9°C to 30.6°C, and the lower limit from 29.5°C to 26.3°C (<I>P</I><0.001). These findings demonstrate that the treated lizards pursued behavioral hypothermia in conjunction with hypoventilation and hypometabolism. Because prior studies reported a similar hypometabolic response in T1AM-injected laboratory mice, the domesticated lizards, as a part of the vertebrate phylogeny, may be a useful laboratory model for biological and pharmacological researches such as drug potency test.</P>

In this paper, we propose a design method which minimize the geometric volume of hypoid gears, considering the strength, durability, undercut, and other design constraints. We applied the developed design method to the design of the hypoid gear in the final drive of industrial vehicle, and obtained an optimal dimension which minimized the geometric volume of equivalent pitch cylinder of the hypoid gear. It can be expected from the result that the method would be used for highly reliable design of hypoid gears with minimum weight and compact volume.

We propose a hole extraction system based on the metal-like poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) blended with MoOx. Tuning the volume ratio of MoOx to PEDOT:PSS, the conductivity increases ten times, compared to that of pristine PEDOT:PSS flm. The efcient charge recombination and generation characteristics between MoOx with PEDOT:PSS are argued as the increase. No additional absorption peak due to the charge transfer in the hole transport layer implies that the system does not follow the P-type doping technique. The use of MoOx-mixed PEDOT:PSS thin flm as the hole extraction layer for the poly{4,8-bis[5-(2-ethylhexyl)-thiophen-2-yl]benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b’]dithiophene-2,6- diyl-alt-[4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3-fuorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene]-2-carboxylate-2-6-diyl} (PTB7-Th) and [6,6]-phenyl C70-butyric acid methyl ester (PC[70]BM)-based organic solar cells is found to increase the short circuit current density and fll factor of the device concomitant, and the power conversion efciency increases from 6.7 to 8.1% when the MoOx mixing ratio is 3%. The improved hole extraction performance of MoOx-mixed PEDOT:PSS thin flm would be benefcial for potential applications in organic electronic devices.
