As the need for adolescents’ mental health is increasing, schools are emphasized as an important place for the prevention and improvement of mental health and access to services. ‘Students’ Mental Health School-Community Cooperative Model’ started in 2013. This had a great significance in that it was the first nationwide school-based mental health project. This study aims to analyze the factors that participants recognized through the process of the 3-year-long project. To this end, an interview was conducted with 20 hands-on workers and a qualitative analysis was conducted. The result of the research deduced 11 factors ― case-based teacher training and development of practical contents, students’ mental health education using curriculum, active education and counseling with parents, establishing school operation systems for students’ mental health, organizing school committees, student support and crisis management systems, crisis response training, designating school doctor for mental health, establishing control tower of Education Office, organizing local committee, and establishing a hot-line system. Based on the research result, political and practical suggestions were made to expand the school-based mental health project.
A Pilot Symbol Pattern Enabling Data Recovery Without Side Information in PTS-Based OFDM Systems
Hyunju Kim,Eonpyo Hong,Changjun Ahn,Dongsoo Har IEEE 2011 IEEE transactions on broadcasting Vol.57 No.2
<P>Partial transmit sequence (PTS) scheme is one of the most popular peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction schemes for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In the PTS scheme, one OFDM symbol is partitioned into disjointed sub-blocks, and each sub-block is multiplied by a phase factor to generate signals with low PAPR. For data recovery, receivers must have side information (SI), e.g., phase factors, from transmitters. In this letter, a novel data recovery scheme in PTS-based OFDM systems without SI is proposed. In the proposed scheme, an additional pilot symbol is intentionally inserted at the end of each sub-block, so that efficient data decoding based on channel estimation can be executed with known pilot symbols. Simulation results show that the BER performance of the proposed scheme without SI is approximately the same as those of the PTS scheme with perfect SI and a maximum likelihood decoding scheme. Considering the cost for SI encoding and decoding, the proposed scheme is practically more advantageous over the PTS scheme.</P>
Cerebrospinal fluid flow in normal beagle dogs analyzed using magnetic resonance imaging
Hyunju Cho,Yejin Kim,Saebyel Hong,Hojung Choi 대한수의학회 2021 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.22 No.1
Background: Diseases related to cerebrospinal fluid flow, such as hydrocephalus, syringomyelia, and Chiari malformation, are often found in small dogs. Although studies in human medicine have revealed a correlation with cerebrospinal fluid flow in these diseases by magnetic resonance imaging, there is little information and no standard data for normal dogs. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to obtain cerebrospinal fluid flow velocity data from the cerebral aqueduct and subarachnoid space at the foramen magnum in healthy beagle dogs. Methods: Six healthy beagle dogs were used in this experimental study. The dogs underwent phase-contrast and time-spatial labeling inversion pulse magnetic resonance imaging. Flow rate variations in the cerebrospinal fluid were observed using sagittal time-spatial labeling inversion pulse images. The pattern and velocity of cerebrospinal fluid flow were assessed using phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging within the subarachnoid space at the foramen magnum level and the cerebral aqueduct. Results: In the ventral aspect of the subarachnoid space and cerebral aqueduct, the cerebrospinal fluid was characterized by a bidirectional flow throughout the cardiac cycle. The mean ± SD peak velocities through the ventral and dorsal aspects of the subarachnoid space and the cerebral aqueduct were 1.39 ± 0.13, 0.32 ± 0.12, and 0.76 ± 0.43 cm/s, respectively. Conclusions: Noninvasive visualization of cerebrospinal fluid flow movement with magnetic resonance imaging was feasible, and a reference dataset of cerebrospinal fluid flow peak velocities was obtained through the cervical subarachnoid space and cerebral aqueduct in healthy dogs.

<P>Inflammation and inflammatory mediators are inextricably linked with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through complex pathways in the tumor microenvironment. However, the mechanism by which inflammatory mediators, such as the lipid inflammatory mediators, eicosanoids, contribute to EMT is largely unknown. In the present study we observed that BLT2, leukotriene B4 receptor-2, is markedly up-regulated by oncogenic Ras and promotes EMT in response to transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in mammary epithelial cells. Blockade of BLT2 by the BLT2 inhibitor LY255283 or by siRNA reduced EMT induced by Ras in the presence of TGF-β. In addition, stimulation of BLT2 by the addition of a BLT2 ligand, such as leukotriene B4, restored EMT in the presence of TGF-β in human immortalized mammary epithelial MCF-10A cells. We further searched BLT2 downstream components and identified reactive oxygen species and nuclear factor κB as critical components that contribute to EMT. Taken together, these results demonstrate for the first time that a BLT2-linked inflammatory pathway contributes to EMT. This provides valuable insight into the mechanism of EMT in mammary epithelial cells. In addition, considering the implications of EMT with the stemness of cancer cells, our finding may contribute to a better understanding of tumor progression.</P>
Sequence-dependent DNA condensation as a driving force of DNA phase separation
Kang, Hyunju,Yoo, Jejoong,Sohn, Byeong-Kwon,Lee, Seung-Won,Lee, Hong Soo,Ma, Wenjie,Kee, Jung-Min,Aksimentiev, Aleksei,Kim, Hajin Oxford University Press 2018 Nucleic acids research Vol.46 No.18
<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The physical properties of DNA have been suggested to play a central role in spatio-temporal organization of eukaryotic chromosomes. Experimental correlations have been established between the local nucleotide content of DNA and the frequency of inter- and intra-chromosomal contacts but the underlying physical mechanism remains unknown. Here, we combine fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) measurements, precipitation assays, and molecular dynamics simulations to characterize the effect of DNA nucleotide content, sequence, and methylation on inter-DNA association and its correlation with DNA looping. First, we show that the strength of DNA condensation mediated by poly-lysine peptides as a reduced model of histone tails depends on the DNA’s global nucleotide content but also on the local nucleotide sequence, which turns out to be qualitatively same as the condensation by spermine. Next, we show that the presence and spatial arrangement of C5 methyl groups determines the strength of inter-DNA attraction, partially explaining why RNA resists condensation. Interestingly, multi-color single molecule FRET measurements reveal strong anti-correlation between DNA looping and DNA–DNA association, suggesting that a common biophysical mechanism underlies them. We propose that the differential affinity between DNA regions of varying sequence pattern may drive the phase separation of chromatin into chromosomal subdomains.</P>
Pilot-Aided Side Information Detection in SLM-Based OFDM Systems
Eonpyo Hong,Hyunju Kim,Kyeongcheol Yang,Dongsoo Har IEEE 2013 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS Vol.12 No.7
<P>Selected mapping (SLM) based schemes effectively reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. However, they require side information (SI) transmission, which incurs a loss in the data throughput in addition to the increased system complexity. This paper presents a blind SLM scheme based on a decision metric obtained from pilot sub-channel responses. A novel SI detection method enabling low complexity data decoding is proposed. The SI is detected by exploiting the high autocorrelation between adjacent pilot sub-channel responses. The SI detection error rate is analytically derived and compared with that obtained by simulations. Simulation results of the data decoding scheme based on the proposed SI detection method show the bit error rate performance comparable to that of the simplified maximum likelihood (ML) data decoding scheme, while the computational complexity is close to that of the embedded SI based decoding scheme.</P>
