        Background: The current shortage of nurses in Korea has been the focus of many recent studies and national inquiries. While there are many causes for the present nursing shortage, a major contributing factor is the revolution in fundamental values what we expect in life. Values are important to understand the organizational members' behavior because they lay the foundation for understanding of attitudes and motivation as well as influencing their perceptions. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the fulfillment factors in perceived work values which nurses cognitively assess their own task experiences using Q methodology. Methods: Q methodology provides a scientific method for identifying perception structures that exist within certain individuals or groups. 37 nurses rated 34 selected Q-statements on a scale of 1-9. The collected data were analyzed using pc-QUNAL software. Results: The results showed that work values, which nurses indicate as most fulfillment through working, were perceived as 3 factors; 'job security', 'adaptation' and 'professional satisfaction' work value. Conclusion: Nurse managers may be able to capitalize on differences in designing appropriate interventions to enhance recruitment and retention of nurses.

        장애인의 재활 동기 측정도구 개발

        Purpose: to develop an instrument to assess the rehabilitation motivation and to test its reliability and validity. Method: The data was collected with in-depth interviews of nine participants that include adults with disabilities acquired after they reached 18 years' of age. The development of the preliminary items was based on the theory of self-determination proposed by Deci & Ryan (1985) and the results from the analysis of the data. After these, appropriate specialists clarified the validity of the contents of the preliminary items twice. A test to reliability and validity was conducted with 186 disabled. A principal axis factor analysis with oblimin rotation was performed on 29 items. Result: Finally 27 items were selected. The 5-factor solution emerged as the most appropriate model for the data. The different types of motivation for rehabilitation were identified as: task-oriented motivation, change-oriented motivation, obligatory motivation, external motivation, and amotivation. The alpha coefficient of internal consistency was .85. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the instrument to measure motivation for the rehabilitation of the disabled may be a useful instrument with a high degree of reliability and validity.

      • 학생상호질문생성수업이 간호대학생의 메타인지에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effect of Reciprocal Peer Questioning (RPQ) on nursing students’ metacognition. Methods: The study design was an one group pretest-posttest design. Participants were 47 second-year nursing students. They underwent the course of 'Health assessment' by the lecture and RPQ. Data was collected through self-report questionnaire. SPSS 18.0 program was used for data analysis. Results: The mean score for metacognition was 104.81±12.01 (range 30~150). The score of metacognition (metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive regulation) was significantly improved after RPQ. Academic achievement wasn’t significantly correlated with metacognition. Conclusion: As revealed by the results, RPQ helps students improve their metacognition. RPQ can be applied alone or in combination with the other teaching and learning strategies to improve metacognition.

      • 팀기반학습이 간호대학생의 학습태도 학업성취도 및 의사소통 능력에 미치는 효과

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the Team-Based Learning (TBL) on learning attitude, educational achievements, and communication competence. Methods: The study was conducted between March and June 2011 as a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Participants were 76 second-year nursing students who took the course 'Pathology'. One class of the experimental group was given the TBL for 12weeks. The other class of the control group was given a traditional lecture. With questionnaires learning attitude and communication competence were measured before and after the intervention. And the educational achievements was based on numerical data, including scores from mid-term examination and final examination. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: The experimental group performed significantly better on educational achievements, and scored significantly higher on learning attitude and communication competence than the control group. Conclusion: From the results, the TBL should be considered for broader application in nursing education, because it enhances the learning experience and addresses several professional competencies.

        Nursing has seen many changes in recent years brought about by scientific and technological advances in a rapidly changing care environment. Nurses must use critical-thinking skills to solve increasingly complex problems. Educators need to help nurses and students develop their critical-thinking skills to maintain and enhance their competence. Such thinking indicates a person who is constantly questioning and analysing situations and is essential in the development of problem solving and decision making skills. Critical thinking as a cognitive process is more frequently associated with learning of propositional or theoretical knowledge. The aims of this paper are to review the literature on critical thinking, to examine the dimensions of critical thinking, to investigate the various critical thinking strategies for their appropriateness to enhance critical thinking in nurses. Additional research studies are needed to determine how the process of nursing practice can nurture and develop critical-thinking skills, and which strategies are most effective in developing and evaluating critical thinking.

      • 표고버섯(Lentinus edodes)섭취가 streptozotocin 유발 당뇨 흰쥐의 혈당수준과 에너지원 조성에 미치는 영향

        The hypoglycemic effects of Lentinus edodes on streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic rats were investigated. Diabetes mellitus was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats by injections of STZ into the tail vein at a dose of 45mg/kg. The animals weighing 200-250g were fed either a control diet(AIN-76) or mushroom diets for four weeks. The body weight gain was monitored and the blood levels of glucose and cholesterol were analyzed. The levels of protein, triglyceride and free fatty acid in plasma were determined. The extent of blood glucose decrements in rats fed on Lentinus edodes was greater than that found in the STZ-control group. The plasma protein levels were not influenced, although the plasma cholesterol levels were significantly lowered in rats fed on Lentinus edodes. The levels of plasma triglyceride and free fatty acid were also significantly decreased in Lentinus edodes. The results suggest that Lentinus edodes causes a hypoglycemic effect in diabetic rats and that mushroom intake may be beneficial for the managemant of diabetes mellitus.

      • 팀 기반학습에서의 동료평가: 학생들의 태도 및 학업성적에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine what qualities students rate in their peer evaluations and to analyze factors affecting performance. Methods: The data were collected from 60 second-year nursing students who took the course 'Pathology'. Each team was composed of 5~6 students, each of whom evaluated other members by using peer evaluation instrument. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: Students in the highest IRAT tertile showed a significantly higher score in peer evaluation than other tertiles. Students' reason for giving the highest and lowest score were both the quality of contributions during team discussion. The most affecting factor of the course grade was peer evaluation score(=.52, p〈.001). Conclusion: Peer evaluation could be considered as a complement for a comprehensive evaluation strategy. This results may be useful for educators to determine a percentage-multiplier in calculating the course grade.

      • 임상적 추론능력의 학습 및 평가도구로서 개념도의 적용 가능성

        The purpose of this study was to introduce the concept map as an alternative format for the course outcome on the clinical reasoning skill competence(PO5). Concept mapping is a tool which can represent knowledge structure by illustrating the relationships between relevant concepts within a given subject domain. Participants were second year nursing students enrolled in a 'Pathology' course. The 52 students were divided into 9 small groups, 5 medical problems were given to the students for discussion in the groups, including the preparation of concept maps. Each group completed 5 maps in this semester. A concept map related to the process on ‘immobility’ was provided. Also a assessment tool of PO5 and the rubric was suggested. In this study, concept mapping is an active teaching strategy that can be used in nursing education to enhance the reasoning skill, to promote a deeper understanding of the basic concepts of pathology

      • 고본 Ethanol 추출물의 투여가 streptozotocin 유발 당뇨 흰쥐의 혈당 및 글리코겐 함량에 미치는 영향

        This study was designed to examine the effects of ethanol (EtOH) extract of Angelicae tenuissimae on glucose and glycogen levels in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were induced diabetes mellitus by STZ injection (45 mg/kg) into the tail vein and were divided into 4 groups: normal, STZ-control, two experimental diabetic groups. EtOH extract of Angelicae tenuissimae were administered orally into the diabetic rats for 14 days. The diet intake and body weight were monitored and plasma levels of glucose, aminotransferase activity and glycogen level in liver and muscle were analyzed. Oral administration of 2.0g/kg b.w. on the EtOH extracts for 14 days resulted in a significant reduction in plasma levels of glucose, activities of ALT and AST. The glycogen levels in liver and muscle of EtOH-2 group were significantly higher than that of STZ-control group. The results show that EtOH extract of Angelicae tenuissimae could be effective to control the STZ-induced diabetic rats.
