The goal of implementing the energy efficiency standards of energy equipment is not only to reduce national energy consumption and greenhouse gases but to achieve a successful market transformation with high-efficiency energy equipment in cost-effective way. This study investigated methodologies about how to get them on the energy efficiency standards in abroad and proposed how to apply those methodologies in Korea. In Korea, energy efficiency of equipment are managed by the Energy Utilization Rationalization Act corresponding to U.S. federal original (EPCA) or European Eco-design. But there is no legal requirement to conduct analysis for technical-economic feasibility or environmental impact on energy efficiency standards. In order to maximize the energy savings and to reduce environmental impacts of energy-using equipment in cost-effective way, the law and related regulations on energy efficiency standards need to be revised to include technical, economic and environmental assessment in the energy efficiency standards procedure for energy using machinery and equipment or materials.

Sedation can resolve anxiety and fear in patients undergoing endoscopy. The use of sedatives has increased in Korea. Appropriatesedation is a state in which the patient feels subjectively comfortable while maintaining the airway reflex for stable spontaneousbreathing. The patient should maintain a state of consciousness to the extent that he or she can cooperate with the needs of themedical staff. Despite its benefits, endoscopic sedation has been associated with cardiopulmonary complications. Cardiopulmonarycomplications are usually temporary. Most patients recover without sequelae. However, they may progress to serious complications,such as cardiovascular collapse. Therefore, it is essential to screen high-risk patients before sedation and reduce complications bymeticulous monitoring. Additionally, physicians should be familiar with the management of emergencies. The first Korean clinicalpractice guideline for endoscopic sedation was developed based on previous worldwide guidelines for endoscopic sedation using anadaptation process. The guideline consists of nine recommendations based on a critical review of currently available data and expertconsensus when the guideline was drafted. These guidelines should provide clinicians, nurses, medical school students, and policymakers with information on how to perform endoscopic sedation with minimal risk.

Most of energy saving and efficiency policies are based on the Energy Use Rationalization Act. However it is not stipulated the details on the implementation of the policy in the Act. In order to successfully execute the policy, details on the implementation must be prescribed in its sub-regulations. The purpose of this study is to analyze the complementary and completeness between Article 15 of Energy Use Rationalization and its sub-regulations in terms of energy in machinery, equipment or materials. The conclusion of this study is that the amendment of law which is related to the establishment of energy efficiency standard process for designation of efficient energy management of machinery, equipment or materials is required as a priority.

<P>Highly porous gallium oxide was synthesized by reconstructing its surface and body with mesopores and macropores. For the first time, the efficient photocatalytic conversion of CO<SUB>2</SUB> into a high energy carrier, CH<SUB>4</SUB>, using the porous gallium oxide was realized without any co-particle or sacrificial reagent. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is mainly attributed to the 300% higher CO<SUB>2</SUB> adsorption capacity, as well as the 200% increased surface area, compared to the bulk nanoparticles. <P>Gonadotropins including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) play a crucial role in human-assisted reproduction techniques. Despite wide use of recombinant gonadotropins in clinical practice, the efficacy of urinary gonadotropins and the dosage of LH component have not yet been elucidated. This study was designed to investigate the difference of follicle culture outcomes according to various compositions of gonadotropins during in vitro culture of mouse preantral follicles. Ovaries were obtained from the 14-day-old C57BL/6 mice, and preantral follicles were isolated and cultured in culture media supplemented with human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) 200 mIU/mL (group 1), recombinant FSH and LH (rFSH + rLH) 200 mIU/mL each (group 2), rFSH 200 mIU/mL + rLH 100 mIU/mL (group 3), or rFSH 200 mIU/mL + rLH 20 mIU/mL (group 4). Follicle survival rate was significantly lower in group 4. Antral follicles in lower doses of LH (groups 3, 4) showed a statistically significant larger diameter and tended to have a higher antral formation rate. However, follicles in group 1 tended to have a higher oocyte maturation rate. Estradiol concentration from conditioned media from 2:1 FSH/LH (group 3) was significantly higher than those from 1:1 FSH/LH (group 2) or 10:1 FSH/LH (group 4). Half dose of rLH to rFSH facilitated upregulation of growth differentiation factor 9 (<I>Gdf9</I>) expression in granulosa cells when compared to 1:1 FSH/LH or 10:1 FSH/LH. Conclusively, recombinant gonadotropins provided a comparable condition to hMG, and half dose of rLH to rFSH seems to be more suitable for follicular development during in vitro culture.</P>
Chromosomal Information of 1,144 Korean BAC Clones

We sequenced 1,841 BAC clones by terminal sequencing, and 1,830 of these clones were characterized with regard to their human chromosomal location and gene content using Korean BAC library constructed at the Korean Science (KCGS). Sequence analyses of the 1,830 BAC clones was performed for chromosomal assignment: 1,144 clones were assigned to a single chromosome, 190 clones apparently assigned to more than one chromosome, and 496 clones to no chromosome. Evaluating gene content of the 1,144 BAC clones, we found that 706 clones represented 1,069 genes of which 415 genes existed in the BAC clones covering the full sequence of the gene, 180 genes covering a $50%{\sim}99%$, and 474 genes covering less than 50% of the gene coverage. The estimated covering size of the KBAC clones was 73,379 kilobases (kb), in total corresponding to 2.3% of haploid human genome sequence. The identified BAC clones will be a public genomic resource for mapped clones for diagnostic and functional studies by Korean scientists and investigators worldwide.

Bartter's syndrome is characterized by hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, hyperreninemia, hyperaldosteronism, normal blood pressure, hyperplasia of the juxtaglomerular apparatus of the kidney. We have experienced a case of Batters syndrome in 54-year-old woman and diagnosed by means of the above mentioned biochemical and pathalogical studies and we have witnessed a successful response to captopril and indomethacin and spironolactone treatment. Literature was reviewed briefly.
