We report a case of Rumpel-Leede (RL) phenomenon, -acute dermis capillary rupture, secondary to noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) monitoring in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension. The first most likely cause is vascular fragility in microangiopathy as a result of DM and chronic steroid use. The second is the increased venous pressure during cycling of the blood pressure cuff in a hypertensive state. Anesthesiologists need to be aware that acute dermal capillary rupture, although rare, can occur in patients with long-standing DM, hypertension and chronic steroid use. <P>Single-cell RNA-seq reveals the cellular heterogeneity inherent in the population of cells, which is very important in many clinical and research applications. Recent advances in droplet microfluidics have achieved the automatic isolation, lysis, and labeling of single cells in droplet compartments without complex instrumentation. However, barcoding errors occurring in the cell encapsulation process because of the multiple-beads-in-droplet and insufficient throughput because of the low concentration of beads for avoiding multiple-beads-in-a-droplet remain important challenges for precise and efficient expression profiling of single cells. In this study, we developed a new droplet-based microfluidic platform that significantly improved the throughput while reducing barcoding errors through deterministic encapsulation of inertially ordered beads. Highly concentrated beads containing oligonucleotide barcodes were spontaneously ordered in a spiral channel by an inertial effect, which were in turn encapsulated in droplets one-by-one, while cells were simultaneously encapsulated in the droplets. The deterministic encapsulation of beads resulted in a high fraction of single-bead-in-a-droplet and rare multiple-beads-in-a-droplet although the bead concentration increased to 1000 μl<SUP>−1</SUP>, which diminished barcoding errors and enabled accurate high-throughput barcoding. We successfully validated our device with single-cell RNA-seq. In addition, we found that multiple-beads-in-a-droplet, generated using a normal Drop-Seq device with a high concentration of beads, underestimated transcript numbers and overestimated cell numbers. This accurate high-throughput platform can expand the capability and practicality of Drop-Seq in single-cell analysis.</P>

This study aims to assess the safety of chlorates and perchlorates in food. With the increasing consumption of chlorine-based disinfectants, investigations on the contamination of chlorates and perchlorates have become inevitable. Monitoring of chlorate and perchlorate levels, which can be generated during the production and manufacturing processes of food, was conducted to evaluate potential hazards. Continuous monitoring of chlorates and perchlorates is being carried out in other countries, but it is still limited in domestic settings. Therefore, standardization of detection methods for chlorates and perchlorates is necessary, along with the establishment of an integrated monitoring system throughout the production, distribution process, and consumption stages. In order to develop analytical methods for chlorates and perchlorates, two representative samples (garlic, eggs) were selected. LC-MS/MS was used with the Quppe (Quick Polar Pesticides) method to analyze Chlorate and Perchlorate which are polar substances. Among them, the instrumental conditions and extraction methods were established for garlic and eggs, and recovery tests were conducted at levels of 0.01 mg/kg and 0.1 mg/kg. Garlic is a food that is both a representative vegetable for roots and tuber vegetables and a detected food in EFSA (European Food Safe Authority) Chlorate monitoring. Eggs, on the other hand, are representative foods for the protein group as well as for semi-solid foods. To remove the proteins in galic and eggs, additional centrifugation step was employed. Finally, analytical method for the determination of chlorate and perchlorate was established and validated in representative samples of garlic and eggs.

For the design of wind-power facilities, the highest and lowest astronomical tides (HAT and LAT, respectively) are needed for the tidal-water levels regarding international designs; however, the approximate highest high water and approximate lowest low water AHHW and ALLW, respectively, have been used in Korea. The HAT and LAT in the wind-farm test-bed sea should be estimated to satisfy the international standard. In this study, the HAT and LAT are therefore estimated using the hourly tidal-elevation data of the Eocheongdo, Anmado, Younggwang, Gunsan, Janghang, and Seocheon tidal-gauging stations that are located in the adjacent coastal sea. The nodal variation patterns of the major lunar components, such as M2, O1, and K1 are analyzed to check the expected long-term lunar cycle, i.e., 18.61 year's nodal-variation patterns. The temporal amplitude variations of the M2, O1, and K1 clearly show the 18.61-years periodic patterns in the case of the no-nodal correction condition. In addition, the suggested HAT and LAT elevations, estimated as the upper and lower confidence limits of the yearly HAT and LAT elevations, are 50 cm greater than the AHHW and 40 cm lower than the ALLW, respectively.
성인 지적장애인에 대한 비디오 모델링 훈련이 식사준비에 미치는 영향: 단일사례연구

본 연구는 성인 지적장애인에게 비디오 모델링 훈련을 적용하여 수단적 일상생활활동 중식사 준비, 특히 라면 끓이기 과제 수행에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 방법은 단일사례연구(single subject design)를 사용하였다. 연구 대상은 지적장애 2급 진단을 받은 성인 지적장애인 1명이었으며, 8주간 주 1회씩 총 8회기 동안 비디오 모델링 훈련을 실시하였다. 식사준비활동에 대한 수행도는 활동분석을 통한 총 20단계 중 정확하게 수행한 단계를 백분율로 환산하여 평가하였다. 연구 결과, 대상자의 기초선 수행도 평균은 51.67%, 중재기간의 수행도 평균은 88.75%로 약 37.08% 증가되었다. 그리고 중재 1회기부터 5회기까지 70~90%의 수행도를 보였고, 중재 6회기부터는 100% 수행도를 보였다. 본 연구를 통해 비디오 모델링 훈련이 성인 지적장애인의 수단적 일상생활활동 중 식사준비 능력 향상에 효과적이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 비디오 모델링 훈련이 성인 지적장애인의 재활에 사용되어 질 수 있는 가능성을 나타내었다. This study is a single subject design. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of video modeling on the meal preparation, especially cooking ramen among Instrumental Activities of Daily Living(IADL) of adult with mental retardation. The intervention was administered once a week for 8 weeks, and video modeling was used. The dependent measure was the percentage of steps performed correctly during sessions. As a result, mean percentage was 51.67 for baseline phase, 88.75 for intervention phase. About 37.08% was increased. From one session to five session, 70~90% of performance was appeared and 100% showed from six sessions. In conclusion, adult with mental retardation who received video modeling training showed improved function of meal preparation among IADL. Thus, video modeling has potential to be rehabilitation of adult with mental retardation.
