        Novel triethylsilylethynyl anthracene-based organic semiconductors for high performance field effect transistors

        <P>A series of triethylsilylethynyl anthracene (TESAN) derivatives, end-capped with bithiophene and thienothiophene, were synthesized by Suzuki coupling. The thermal, optical, electrochemical, and crystalline properties of the TESAN derivatives were reported and correlated with charge transport behavior measured <I>via</I> both a thin film transistor and a single crystal transistor. The TESAN derivative substituted with bithiophene exhibited more efficient π electron delocalization over the molecule compared to the derivative substituted with fused thienothiophene, and consequently gave the highest FET mobility, 1.28 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>, from single crystal transistors with negligible hysteresis and almost zero turn-on voltage.       • Synthesis and characterization of a new poly(octathiophene) based copolymer for organic thin-film transistor.

        <P>A new poly(octathiophene) based copolymer was designed and synthesized by the palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. The structure of the newly obtained copolymer was confirmed by 1H-NMR and IR. The number-average molecular weight (M(n)) of the polymer was 36,000 with a poly-dispersity index of 1.15. The polymer has good solubility in common solvents such as chloroform, toluene, chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene and tetrahydrofuran at room temperature. The optical, thermal and electrochemical properties of the polymer were characterized by UV-vis absorption, TGA and DSC and cyclovoltametry, respectively. A thin film transistor using the new polymer as an organic semiconductor was found to exhibit typical p-channel FET characteristics with a hole mobility of 5 x 10(-4) cm2/Vs.</P>

      • Polarity Engineering of Conjugated Polymers by Variation of Chemical Linkages Connecting Conjugated Backbones

        <P>The fine tuning of the dominant polarity in polymer semiconductors is a key issue for high-performance organic complementary circuits. In this paper, we demonstrate a new methodology for addressing this issue in terms of molecular design. In an alternating conjugated donor–acceptor copolymer system, we systematically engineered the chemical linkages that connect the aromatic units in donor moieties. Three donor moieties, thiophene–vinylene–thiophene (TVT), thiophene–acetylene–thiophene (TAT), and thiophene–cyanovinylene–thiophene (TCNT), were combined with an acceptor moiety, thienoisoindigo (TIID), and finally, three novel TIID-based copolymers were synthesized: PTIID–TVT, PTIID–TAT, and PTIID–TCNT. We found that the vinylene, acetylene, and cyanovinylene linkages decisively affect the energy structure, molecular orbital delocalization, microstructure, and, <I>most importantly</I>, the dominant polarity of the polymers. The vinylene-linked PTIID–TVT field-effect transistors (FETs) exhibited intrinsic hole and electron mobilities of 0.12 and 1.5 × 10<SUP>–3</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1?</SUP>s<SUP>–1</SUP>, respectively. By contrast, the acetylene-linked PTIID–TAT FETs exhibited significantly improved intrinsic hole and electron mobilities of 0.38 and 0.03 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1</SUP> s<SUP>–1</SUP>, respectively. Interestingly, cyanovinylene-linked PTIID–TCNT FETs exhibited reverse polarity, with hole and electron mobilities of 0.07 and 0.19 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1</SUP> s<SUP>–1</SUP>. As a result, the polarity balance, which is quantified as the electron/hole mobility ratio, was dramatically tuned from 0.01 to 2.7.       • Synthesis of a Low-Bandgap Fluorinated Donor–Acceptor Copolymer and Its Optoelectronic Application

        <P>We demonstrate the synthesis of a new copolymer which is composed of dialkyl thienylated benzodithiophene and perfluororalkyl-carbonyl thienothiophene (DTBDT-TTFO) and the characterization of its optoelectronic properties. The introduction of thienyl groups enabled the extended delocalization of π electrons in the DTBDT-TTFO backbone and efficient intermolecular charge transport as proved by the fairly high field effect mobility of 0.02 cm<SUP>2</SUP>/(V s). The introduction of perfluororalkyl-carbonyl side chains resulted in a significant red-shift of DTBDT-TTFO in the absorption spectra and a decrease in the HOMO and LUMO levels. The resulting energy levels of DTBDT-TTFO were not satisfactory for solar cell applications, especially in terms of charge separation at the polymer/PCBM interfaces. Rather, the DTBDT-TTFO showed better energy level matching with the colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) of CdSe. A photodetector based on the bulkheterojunction of DTBDT-TTFO and CdSe NCs with coplanar device geometry resulted in a high photoconductive gain (responsivity higher than 1A/W under a low operating voltage of 1 V), possibly arising from electron trapping at CdSe NCs such that the hole can travel along the detector and its surrounding circuit.       • Comparative Studies on the Relations between Composition Ratio and Charge Transport of Diketopyrrolopyrrole-Based Random Copolymers

        <P>Random copolymerization strategy is introduced to increase the solubility of donor–acceptor copolymers so that they can be processed with environmentally benign, halogen-free solvents. Traditionally, it has been believed that the random copolymer with a lower crystalline order should have a significantly lower charge carrier mobility. This report shows that random copolymerization between two highly planar, charge-delocalized repeating units can significantly enhance the solubility while almost preserving the high charge carrier mobility. A comparative study was conducted for a series of random copolymers consisting of diketopyrrolopyrrole–thienothiophene (DPP-TT) and DPP–selenophene–vinylene–selenophene (DPP-SVS) with composition ratios of 10:0, 9:1, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7, 1:9, and 0:10 by using the crystalline order determined from grazing-incident X-ray diffraction measurements and charge carrier mobility determined from field effect transistor measurements. The results showed that the copolymer tends to have a lower degree of intermolecular ordering as the DPP-TT:DPP-SVS composition ratio approaches 5:5 because of the increased segmental randomness in the polymer chain. Nevertheless, the FET mobility did not follow the tendency of crystalline order; instead, it simply followed the order of increasing content of DPP-SVS in the copolymer.         Effect of microstructure and chemical composition on cold crack susceptibility of high-strength weld metal

        The effects of the microstructural constituents, chemical composition, and retained austenite on high-strength weld metal were studied using preheat-free steels and GMAW solid wires with a low hydrogen content. The cold cracking susceptibility of these GMAW wires was evaluated using the y-groove Tekken test. The results showed that acicular ferrite produced the greatest resistance to cold cracking and that the microstructure of the deposit was more important than the hardness and diffusible hydrogen content in low-hydrogen weld metal. Crack blunting and branching occurred when a crack propagated through fine acicular ferrite because of the fine interlocking nature of the microstructure, Alloying elements for nucleating acieular ferrite, such as Ti, Al, and V, are required for proper austenite grain size, and sequence of inclusion formation was identified in the present paper. Furthermore, the retained austenite was not found to play the role of a hydrogen trapping site and so had no effect on the cold cracking susceptibility at a low preheating temperature (${\leq}100^{\circ}C$) and low heat input (${\leq}1.5$ KJ/mm) to the weld metal.

        목재산업은 녹색성장과 더불어 한국의 차세대 성장동력으로써 주목받고 있다. 또한, 지속적인 목재의 이용과 목재산업의 활성화를 위하여 「목재의 지속가능한 이용에 관한 법률」이 2012년 제정되었다. 자연으로부터 얻어진 목재자원의 가치를 향상시키고 선순환 구조를 지닌 목재제품이용의 확대를 통해 지속적인 성장을 동반하기 위해서는 목재제품 품질관리가 필요하다. 이 논문에서는 국내외 목재제품의 규격·품질표시제도를 살펴보고 국내 목재산업에의 적용을 위한 방안을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 제재목을 중심으로 미국, 캐나다, 뉴질랜드와 일본의 규격·품질표시제도의 운영현황에 대하여 조사하였으며 목재제품에 대한 규격·품질표시제도는 시스템 진화를 통해 생산자의 자발적 참여로 운영되는 제3자 인증제도로 발전됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 국내 목재제품의 규격·품질표시제도의 활성화를 위해서는 도입기에는 산림청 중심으로 일원화 시스템을 구축하여 조기정착을 유도하고 성장기 및 성숙기를 통해 인식구조 개선과 생산자의 자발적 참여를 위한 인센티브 개발 등의 기반을 마련하여 제3자 인증제도로 발전시켜야 할 것이다.       • [P463] A case of drug-induced lupus after minocycline administration

        Minocycline has increasingly been associated with different adverse reactions including drug-induced lupus (DIL). DIL is a less well-defined syndrome. Patients with DIL usually show the clinical features of polyarthralgia, polyarthritis often accompanied by liver abnormalities and positive antinuclear antibody test results. Representative dermatological manifestations are subcutaneous nodules, rash, livedo reticularis, oral ulceration, alopecia. A 20-year-old female presented with multiple erythematous, slightly elevated tender subcutaneous nodules on back, thigh and forearm. The patient had a past history of taking minocycline (Minocin<sup>®</sup>, 50 mg/day) steadily for 10 months with acne. Two weeks after taking minocycline (100 mg/day) again due to recurrence of acne, new skin lesions as well as arthralgia were newly developed. Laboratory test for anti-histone antibodies and anti-SSA were positive. Histological findings of the skin lesion revealed mild septal panniculitis with mild lymphoid lobular infiltration. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with DIL. After stopping minocycline and taking hydroxychloroquine sulfate (Oxiklorin<sup>®</sup> 200 mg/day) and methylprednisolone (Somelon<sup>®</sup> 12 mg/day), arthralgia completely disappeared within 2 weeks. Herein, we report this patient as a rare and educational case of DIL triggered by long-term exposure to minocycline.
