WiSeMote: a novel high fidelity wireless sensor network for structural health monitoring

        Hoover, Davis P.,Bilbao, Argenis,Rice, Jennifer A. Techno-Press 2012 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.10 No.3

Researchers have made significant progress in recent years towards realizing effective structural health monitoring (SHM) utilizing wireless smart sensor networks (WSSNs). These efforts have focused on improving the performance and robustness of such networks to achieve high quality data acquisition and distributed, in-network processing. One of the primary challenges still facing the use of smart sensors for long-term monitoring deployments is their limited power resources. Periodically accessing the sensor nodes to change batteries is not feasible or economical in many deployment cases. While energy harvesting techniques show promise for prolonging unattended network life, low power design and operation are still critically important. This research presents the WiSeMote: a new, fully integrated ultra-low power wireless smart sensor node and a flexible base station, both designed for long-term SHM deployments. The power consumption of the sensor nodes and base station has been minimized through careful hardware selection and the implementation of power-aware network software, without sacrificing flexibility and functionality.

CONDITIONAL INDEPENDENCE AND TENSOR PRODUCTS OF CERTAIN HILBERT L(sup)$\infty$-MODULES

Hoover, Thomas,Lambert, Alan Korean Mathematical Society 2001 대한수학회지 Vol.38 No.1

Independent $\sigma$-algebras Α and Β on X, L$^2$(X, Α V Β), L$^2$(X x X, Α x Β), and the Hilbert space tensor product L$^2$(X,Α), (※Equations, See Full-text) L$^2$(X,Β), are isomorphic. In this note, we show that various Hilbert C(sup)*-algebra tensor products provide the analogous roles when independence is weakened to conditional independence.

Mutations in PCYT1A, Encoding a Key Regulator of Phosphatidylcholine Metabolism, Cause Spondylometaphyseal Dysplasia with Cone-Rod Dystrophy

        Hoover-Fong, J.,Sobreira, N.,Jurgens, J.,Modaff, P.,Blout, C.,Moser, A.,Kim, O.H.,Cho, T.J.,Cho, S.,Kim, S.,Jin, D.K.,Kitoh, H.,Park, W.Y.,Ling, H.,Hetrick, Kurt N.,Doheny, Kimberly F.,Valle, D.,Pauli University of Chicago Press [etc.] 2014 American journal of human genetics Vol.94 No.1

Spondylometaphyseal dysplasias (SMD) constitute a rare group of bone disorders. Two members of the SMD group have distinctive ophthalmologic manifestations: SMD with cone-rod dystrophy (SMD-CRD; MIM 608940) and axial SMD with retinal degeneration (MIM 602271). Additional features of SMD-CRD include rhizomelia, lower extremity bowing, evolving anterior vertebral protrusions, metaphyseal cupping, and progressive visual impairment with pigmentary maculopathy and electroretinographic evidence of cone-rod dysfunction. Affected siblings have been described, thus suggesting autosomal recessive inheritance. Here eight individuals from 6 unrelated families with SMD-CRD were submitted to the Baylor-Hopkins Center for Mendelian Genomics (BHCMG). Patients 1, 2, 4-6 (Walters et al, 2004) and 7 (Kitoh et al, 2011) were described previously. Patient 8 has not reached final adult height, but is short for his age (Z=-7.6) with lower extremity bowing and diagnosis of retinal dystrophy affecting both cones and rods made at age 45 months. Using WES and targeted Sanger sequencing, we found 8 rare PCYT1A variants (1 nonsense, 1 frame shifting indel, and 6 missense variants) present either in the homozygous or compound heterozygous state in all 8 individuals. PCYT1A encodes the alpha isoform of an enzyme known as CTP (phosphocholine cytidylytransferase), essential for phosphotidylcholine synthesis. Mutations in genes involved in fatty acid metabolism have been implicated in other dysplasias (e.g. RCDP and Conradi-Hunermann), as well as retinal disease where there are deficient or abnormal fatty acids (e.g. eicosapentanoic and docosahexanoic acid). Further examination of phospholipid metabolism may lead to the genetic etiology of other SMDs, particularly those with ocular manifestations.

      • 지식집단의 지식공유 유형과 성과

        정후(Chung, Hoover) 한국IT서비스학회 2016 한국IT서비스학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.2016 No.춘계

ANALYSIS OF EQUILIBRIUM METHODS FOR THE COMPUTATIONAL MODEL OF THE MARK-IV ELECTR OREFINER

        Cumberland, Riley,Hoover, Robert,Phongikaroon, Supathorn,Yim, Man-Sung Korean Nuclear Society 2011 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.43 No.6

Two computational methods for determining equilibrium states for the Mark-IV electrorefiner (ER) have been assessed to improve the current computational electrorefiner model developed at University of Idaho. Both methods were validated against measured data to better understand their effects on the calculation of the equilibrium compositions in the ER. In addition, a sensitivity study was performed on the effect of specific unknown activity coefficients-including sodium in molten cadmium, zirconium in molten cadmium, and sodium chloride in molten LiCl-KCl. Both computational methods produced identical results, which stayed within the 95% confidence interval of the experimental data. Furthermore, sensitivity to unavailable activity coefficients was found to be low (a change in concentration of less than 3 ppm).

      • Poster Session : PS 0342 ; Epidemiology and Public Health : Survival Curves and Characterization of Patients Who Died with Diagnoses Related with Sepsis in the University Clinic Rafael Uribe from Cali Valle Colombia

( Angel Ricardoarenas Villamizar ),( Hoover Leon Giraldo ),( Esteban Rodriguez Cardenas ),( Jenny Munoz Lombo ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Objective: To estimate the survival curves (Kaplan Meier) categorized by risk groups of patients who died of SIRS, sepsis, septic shock or severe sepsis during the year 2011, and carry out their respective characterization Methods: Sample Size: Totality of patients who died of septicemia diagnoses according to the ICD-10 Criteria for Inclusion: elder 15-year-old patients. Direct cause of death: Septicemia. To comply with The American College of Chest Physicians and The Society of Critical Care Medicine criteria for diagnosis of Systemic infi ammatory response syndrome SIRS, sepsis, severe sepsis or septic shock. Exclusion criteria: deceased patients with different diagnoses and Patients Younger than 15 years old. Statistical Analysis Plan: It was carried out univariate and bivariate analysis. It was calculated the categorized survival values: gender, origin of remission, antibiotic treatment and comorbidities. It was used STATA version 10. 0 Results: Certifi ed cases of death by SEPSIS (n = 243) 23%, were incorrectly classifi ed. 55. 67% of deaths by SEPSIS were of community origin and 44. 33% were associated to infections in health care (IAHC). 34, 04% of the established treatments were not relevant. The fall of the survival curve was faster in patients with community germs died of sepsis. The main germ found in the community was the E. Coli: 11. 48%, it was followed by Klebsiella pneumonia: 7. 38% For patients with IAHC, the Pseudomona aeruginosa ranked fi rst: 12. 12%. Conclusions: As to the origin of the infection, the pulmonary focus was the further presentation. It was found sepsis diagnoses not justifi ed which alters the epidemiology of the institution. It`s required a greater adherence to the manuals and protocols for the rational use of antibiotics by improving the timeliness and effectiveness of the same. Studies are suggested to the germs from the community where survival rates fall more dramatically than the germs involved in infections associated with health care.
