<P>Detailed underlying changes have never been explored to explain how old stomach is more susceptible to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)-induced gastric damage than young stomach, although presumptively speculated as weakened mucosal defense system as well as attenuated regenerating capacity in old stomach. In order to investigate molecular mechanisms relevant to NSAID-induced gastric damage, we administered indomethacin to 6-week-old and 60-week-old rats. In spite of the same oral administration of indomethacin (0.1 mg indomethacin dissolved in 1 ml carboxyl methylcellulose) irrespective of body weights of rat, gastric mucosal damages were significantly increased in the older rats compared to the younger rats (p < 0.05). Before indomethacin administration, inflammatory mediators including cytokines, chemokines, proteases, and adhesion molecules were significantly increased in old stomach and these differences were further increased after indomethacin administration (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the levels of total oxidants and apoptotic executors were significantly increased in old stomach, whereas lipoxin A4 and anti-apoptotic proteins such as survivin and Bcl-2 were significantly decreased. Increased NF-kappa B-DNA binding activity as well as the activation of JNK and p38 was responsible for the increased expressions of inflammatory mediators as well as oxidants. A preventive strategy to reduce either redox activation or pro-inflammatory mediators should be considered in older patients taking long-standing NSAID administration.</P>

Effects of Chemical Stabilizers on an Expansive Clay

Expansive clays exhibit a high potential for the volume change behavior when the soil moisture changes. The estimated annualcost of the damage to the facilities built on expansive clay in the United States exceeds 9 billion dollars. Because of the physicochemicalnature of the expansive clay, the use of chemical agents to improve their engineering properties is common. This researchinvestigated the effects of chemical agents on an expansive soil from Texas through a laboratory injection method. The agents used inthis study included lime, potassium based agents, and a group of ionic agents. Swelling tests, chemical tests, and soil suction testswere used to evaluate the stabilizing effects of those chemical agents. The testing results indicated that potassium based stabilizer, isan effective stabilizing agent to control the swelling potential of the expansive clay. It can also be injected in the field to build amoisture barrier. The chemical tests on the injected Texas clay showed that the stabilizing mechanism of the ionic agents is possiblythrough the cations’ exchange and the increase of the cations’ concentrations in the soil pore water.
Vocational Education Teacher Training System Based on Ecological Civilization Perspective

Ecological civilization is the advanced form of the development of human civilization. In the perspective of ecological civilization system, the vocational education teacher training system has some problems, such as imbalance of individual, imbalance of population and imbalance of environment. To solve these problems, we should think beyond industrial civilization, follow the principle of ecological civilization, on the premise of constructing harmonious coexistence overpass, adhere to independent life, eliminate niche overlap, strengthen the awareness of cooperation and competition ability, to integrate internal and external resources based on "Internet +" technology, to create ecological environment in the aspects of individual, population and environment.

본 연구의 목적은 중국의 첫 고등 사범교육기관에서 중등 예비교사 교육실습을 처음 시작하여 현재에 이르기까지 중등 예비교사 교육실습정책의 변천과정을 시기별로 고찰하고 그 변천과정에 나타난 특징들을 도출하여, 중국의 중등 예비교사 교육실습에 대한 이해를 돕고 이를 개선하고 발전시킬 수 있는 방안 모색을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 있다. 본 연구에서는 중국의 중등 예비교사 양성을 위한 교육실습정책의 변천과정을 초창기, 발전기, 쇠퇴기, 회복기, 개혁기의 5단계로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 각 단계마다 교육실습 시간, 교육실습 관리, 교육실습 방법에 대하여 분석하고 교육실습정책의 특징들을 도출해냈다. 본 연구의 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 교육실습 시간 면에서 보면 개혁기에 실습시간과 기간을 점차 늘리고 있다는 점이다. 교육실습 관리 면에서 보면 개혁기에 교육실습 기지의 건설이 개혁의 초점으로 되고 있다는 것이다. 교육실습 방법 면에서 보면 전 단계에서 주로 전통적인 집중식 교육실습 방법을 사용하던 데로부터 개혁기에는 다양한 교육실습 방법들이 나타났다는 것이다.
