Detection of Helicobacter heilmannii Infection in a Cat
Hong-Guen Oh,Youngho Kim,Hyun-A Lee,Okjin Kim 한국실험동물학회 2009 Laboratory Animal Research Vol.25 No.4
A 5-year-old female Persian cat was presented for investigation of anorexia and occasional vomiting. Abdominal radiography and sonography did not demonstrate any abnormal lesions. The cat had been fed a commercial pellet diet. The possibility of feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus and heartworm was ruled out from the results of rapid test kits. Helicobacter species was detected by the rapid urease test with vomiting materials and Helicobacter rpoB DNA polymerase chain reaction analysis with stool. Thereafter, Helicobacter heilmannii was identified by species-specific polymerase chain reaction analysis. This case was confirmed as gastroenteric disease induced by Helicobacter heilmannii, and antibiotic therapy was performed. The cat made a complete recovery following an antibiotic therapy. On our knowledge, this is a very rare report about Helicobacter heilmannii-induced gastroenteric disease in cat and may provide a valuable data on the study of feline Helicobacter infection.

This study describes a canine lymphosarcoma with a rapid proliferation and recurrence. A 4-year-old, male, Shih Tzu dog was examined for acute swelling mass. The mass had been identified since 3 months ago and enlarged 10×7 cm and located in the right axillary region. The surgical removal was recommended when patient visited veterinarian and the operation was conducted. The removed tumor was 11×8×7 cm and firm, lobulated and white cut surface. Routine screening laboratory test was assessed with blood and radiological analysis. The metastasis sign was not detected on thoracic and abdominal radiography. Blood test revealed decreased lymphocytes. After surgical removal of the mass, microscopic histopathological examination was performed to determine the final diagnosis. Histopathologically, the tumors are characterized by the same histological features, including the presence of neoplastic cellular populations, and lymphocytes infiltration in varying proportions. Also, DNA was extracted and PCR analysis was employed to analyze the origin of tumor cells. T-cell specific nucleic acid fragments were specifically amplified by PCR. On the basis of the laboratory results, the tumor was diagnosed with canine T-cell lymphosarcoma. On the basis of our knowledge, this is the first report of canine T-cell lymphosarcoma in a Shih Tzu dog.

Developing cartilage serves as a template for long-bone development during endochondral ossification. Although the coupling of cartilage and bone development with angiogenesis is an important regulatory step for endochondral ossification, the molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. One possible mechanism involves the action of Dickkopf (DKK), which is a family of soluble canonical Wnt antagonists with four members (DKK1-4). We initially observed opposite expression patterns of Dkk1 and Dkk2 during angiogenesis and chondrocyte differentiation: downregulation of Dkk1 and upregulation of Dkk2. We examined the in vivo role of Dkk1 and Dkk2 in linking cartilage/bone development and angiogenesis by generating transgenic (TG) mice that specifically express Dkk1 or Dkk2 in chondrocytes, hypertrophic chondrocytes, or endothelial cells. Despite specific expression pattern during cartilage development, chondrocyte- and hypertrophic chondrocyte-specific Dkk1 and Dkk2 TG mice showed normal developmental phenotypes. However, Dkk1 misexpression in endothelial cells resulted in defects of endochondral ossification and reduced skeletal size. The defects are caused by the inhibition of angiogenesis in developing bone and subsequent inhibition of apoptosis of hypertrophic chondrocytes and cartilage resorption.

Mn-deprived Phase Transformation in High-Mn Steel during the Dew-point Control Process
Hong, Woong-Pyo,Baik, Sung-Il,Kim, Gyo-Sung,Jeon, Sun-Ho,Chin, Kwang-Guen,Oh, Chang-Seok,Kim, Young-Woon Korean Society of Microscopy 2013 Applied microscopy Vol.43 No.1
Phase transformation by the Mn-deprivation was observed in the high-Mn twinning-induced plasticity-aided steel. Mn-depletion was induced by the formation of Mn-O oxide during the dew-point control process at temperature above $-20^{\circ}C$, which changed austenitic parent phase to multi-grained ferrite. Mixture of Al-O, Al-Mn-Si-O oxides were observed at the grain boundaries of transformed ferrite.
