<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>As improvements in cortical surface modeling allowed accurate cortical topology in brain imaging studies, surface-based methods for the analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) were introduced to overcome the topological deficiency of commonly used volume-based methods. The difference between the two methods is mainly due to the smoothing techniques applied. For practical applications, the surface-based methods need to quantitatively validate the accuracy of localizing activation. In this study, we evaluated the spatial accuracy of activation detected by the volume- and surface-based methods using simulated blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) signals and MRI phantoms focusing on the influence of their smoothing techniques. T1- and T2-weighted phantoms were acquired from BrainWeb (http://www.bic.mni.mcgill.ca/brainweb/) and used to extract cortical surfaces and to generate echo planar imaging (EPI) data. Simulated BOLD signals as the gold standard of activation in our experiment were applied to the surfaces and projected to the volume space with random noise. Three-dimensional isotropic Gaussian kernel smoothing and two-dimensional heat kernel smoothing were applied to the volume- and surface-based methods. Sensitivity and 1-specificity, which are truly and falsely detected activations, and similarity measures, which are spatially and statistically similar for the gold standard and detected activations, were calculated. In the results, the surface-based method showed the sensitivity and similarity scores of about 12% higher than the volume-based method. In conclusion, the surface-based method guarantees better spatial accuracy for the localization of BOLD signal sources within the cortex than the volume-based method.</P>

In this paper, we used LPC and all pole model of vocal tract to obtain basic three formant of spoken Korean digits and show it can be used as a reference parameter. In this experiment the speech signal is sampled at 10㎑ of sampling rate and 8-bit resolution is used.

Noise problem arising from transmission gears of automobiles is well known to be related to the oxidation of gear materials during crburizing and distortion in the subsequent quenching and tempering process. In order to develop new grade steels with minimal internal oxidation layer which has detrimental effects on gear life and noise reduction, the effects of alloying element, Mn, Cr and Si on the internal oxidation behavier during carburization were studied in comparision to the characteristics of internal oxidation for two commmom transmission gear materials, SCM415H, SCR420H. The chemical composition of the new grade is 0,17C -Si$lt;0.13-0.75Mn -1.0Cr -0.40Mo. The hardenability characteristics of new grade steel is equivalent to that of SCM415H and SCr420H and internal oxidation layer depth after case hardening was smaller than those of SCM415H and SCr420H. The depth of internal oxidation layer was decreased with decreasing the amount of Si which has the highest affinity for oxygen.

목적: 본 저자들은 원시 교정 라식수술 이후 발생한 교정시력저하를 각막 굴절 수술을 통하여 성공적으로 교정한 증례를 경험하였기에 이를 보고하고자 한다. 증례요약: 12년 전, 원시 교정 라식수술을 받은 환자가 시력저하를 주호소로 내원하였다. 현성 굴절 검사 시 우안 +1.25 +2.00 × 90, 최대 교정시력 0.1, 좌안 -0.25 +2.00 × 80, 최대 교정시력이 0.63이었다. 양안의 직난시와 Zernike 계수를 이용한 각막과 총구면 수차값은 우안의 경우 -1.027 μm와 -0.773 μm, 좌안의 경우 -0.965 μm와 -0.881 μm로 음의 구면수차를 보였다. 세극등 현미경 검사에서 특이 소견은 없었다. 저자들은 각막표면연마굴절수술을 통해 환자 우안의 중심 각막을 편형화하였다. 수술 후 1년 뒤, 우안의 최대 교정시력은 0.63으로 측정되었다. 결론: 중심 각막 편평화를 통한 음의 구면수차를 줄이는 각막굴절 수술은 원시 라식수술 후 발생한 교정시력 저하에 대한 하나의 치료 방법이 될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. Purpose: We present a case of a patient who underwent corneal refractive surgery to improve their corrected visual acuity due to a complication of hyperopic laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK). Case summary: The patient complained of decreased vision after hyperopic LASIK surgery 12 years prior. The corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 20/200 in the right eye and 20/32 in the left, with manifested refractions of +1.25 +2.00 × 90 and -0.25 +2.00 × 80, respectively. The patient had a with-the-rule astigmatism. The values of corneal and total spherical aberration, which can be determined as coefficients of the Zernike polynomials, were respectively -1.027 μm and -0.773 μm in the right eye and -0.965 μm and -0.881 μm in the left eye. Slit lamp biomicroscopy revealed no remarkable findings. We performed surface ablation surgery to flatten the central cornea of the patient’s right eye. At 12 months after surgery, the CDVA of the patient’s right eye was 20/30 and the negative corneal spherical aberration was reduced. Conclusions: Corneal refractive surgery to reduce negative corneal spherical aberration by flattening the central cornea is one of possible treatment options for the reduced corrected distance visual acuity after hyperopic LASIK.

Purpose: Docetaxel (Taxotere<SUP>ⓡ</SUP>) and capecitabine are used in combination to treat advanced gastric cancer. Thymidine phosphorylase (TP) is an essential enzyme for the activation of capecitabine in tumors. This study sought to identify the best combination therapy with capecitabine and using two different schedules for docetaxel, a TP up-regulator, to enhance capecitabine’s efficacy. Methods: The human gastric cancer cell line SNU-484 was cultured and docetaxel (2㎍/㎖) was added to the 24-well plates that contained 5×105 cells/well. The total RNA was isolated and RT-PCR was done to identify the TP expression. Four- or five-week-old BALB/c-nu/nu mice were subcutaneously inoculated with the SNU-484 cells. The nude mice were divided into two groups and they were given capecitabine 539 ㎎/㎡ p.o. from days 1 to 14: Group 1 was given docetaxel 15 ㎎/㎡ i.v. on day 1; Group 2 was given docetaxel 7.5㎎/㎡ on days 1 and 8. Tumor tissues were excised on days 1, 8 and 15 to measure the TP and bcl-2 levels. Results: TP was expressed 2 hours after docetaxel administration. Group 2 had a higher TP concentration in the tumor tissues and a better antitumor effect than did Group 1. There was no difference in the bcl-2 concentration in the two groups. Conclusion: These results suggest that docetaxel stimulates the TP expression in tumor tissues and it enhances the antitumor activity of capecitabine. A weekly docetaxel injection with capecitabine administration can be used to treat gastric cancer more effectively than when docetaxel is injected once per cycle. Capecitabine had no bcl-2 suppressive effect in this study.

<P>Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS FMRI) has been widely used to analyze functional alterations in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. Although many clinical studies of aMCI and AD patients using RS FMRI have been undertaken, conducting a meta-analysis has not been easy because of seed selection bias by the investigators. The purpose of our study was to investigate the functional differences in aMCI and AD patients compared with healthy subjects in a meta-analysis. Thus, a multimethod approach using regional homogeneity, amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), fractional ALFF (fALFF), and global brain connectivity was used to investigate differences between three groups based on previously published data. According to the choice of RS FMRI approach used, the patterns of functional alteration were slightly different. Nevertheless, patients with aMCI and AD displayed consistently decreased functional characteristics with all approaches. All approaches showed that the functional characteristics in the left parahippocampal gyrus were decreased in AD patients compared with healthy subjects. Although some regions were slightly different according to the different RS FMRI approaches, patients with aMCI and AD showed a consistent pattern of decreased functional characteristics with all approaches.</P>
Al-Zn-Mg-Cu계 알루미늄 합금의 열간 균열 특성에 미치는 합금조성의 영향

Hot tearing was the most significant casting defect when the castability evaluation of the Al- Zn-Mg-Cu alloy system was conducted. It was related to the solidification range of the alloy. Therefore, the hot tear susceptibility of the AA7075 alloy, whose solidification range is the widest, was evaluated. The hot tear susceptibility was evaluated by using a mold for a hot tearing test designed to create the condition for the occurrence of hot tear in 8 steps. According to the tearing location and shape, a hot tear susceptibility index (HTS) score was measured. The solidification range of each alloy and hot tear susceptibility was compared and thereafter the microstructure of a near tear defect was observed. As a result, the HTS of the AA7075 alloy was found to be 67. Also, the HTS in relation to a change in Zn, Mg, Cu composition showed a difference of about 6-11% compared to the AA7075 alloy.
