        Compressive and flexural behaviour of recycled aggregate concrete filled steel tubes (RACFST) under short-term loadings

        The behaviour of hollow structural steel (HSS) stub columns and beams filled with normal concrete and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) under instantaneous loading was investigated experimentally. A total of 40 specimens, including 30 stub columns and 10 beams, were tested. The main parameters varied in the tests were: (1) recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement ratio, from 0 to 50%, (2) sectional type, circular and square. The main objectives of these tests were threefold: first, to describe a series of tests on new composite columns; second, to analyze the influence of RCA replacement ratio on the compressive and flexural behaviour of recycled aggregate concrete filled steel tubes (RACFST), and finally, to compare the accuracy of the predicted ultimate strength, bending moment capacity and flexural stiffness of the composite specimens by using the recommendations of ACI318-99 (1999), AIJ (1997), AISC-LRFD (1999), BS5400 (1979), DBJ13-51-2003 (2003) and EC4 (1994).

        Nucleophosmin modulates the alleviation of atopic dermatitis caused by the marine-derived compound dihydroaustrasulfone alcohol

        Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, and its prevalence is increasing. AD usually elicits skin barrier dysfunction, dry skin and itching. As the mechanisms of AD remain unknown, there is an urgent need to find effective therapies. Because of the diversity and complexity of marine environments, the discovery of drugs from marine organisms as novel therapeutic agents for human diseases has seen renewed interest. Dihydroaustrasulfone alcohol (WA-25), the synthetic precursor of austrasulfone, which is a natural product isolated from a Formosan soft coral, has been shown to possess many therapeutic effects in our previous studies. However, the detailed mechanisms and therapeutic effects of WA-25 on AD are incompletely understood. We performed in vitro and in vivo studies to examine the effects of WA-25 on AD. We showed that WA-25 blocks inflammation and oxidative stress. Simultaneously, we also found that WA-25 reduces the AD scores and AD-induced transepidermal water loss (TEWL), scratching behavior, and alloknesis. WA-25 is more effective in cases of AD than are the drugs that are currently used clinically. Importantly, we also found that when nucleophosmin (NPM) was inhibited or when its expression was reduced, the anti-inflammatory and anti-AD effects of WA-25 were blocked. These data suggest that NPM plays dual roles in inflammation and AD. Overall, these results suggest that WA-25 is a potential anti-inflammatory and AD therapeutic agent that is modulated by NPM.

        학교폭력 예방 및 대응 대책에 관한 국제 비교 연구 : 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 핀란드를 중심으로

        [연구목적] 본 연구는 학교폭력 예방 및 대응에 관한 유럽 국가의 제도를 비교·분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. [연구방법] 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 핀란드를 대상 국가로 선정하였다. 자료 수집 및 자료 분석을 위해 분석 틀을 개발하여 사용하였다. [연구결과] 프랑스는 학교폭력에 대한 내용을 독립적으로 다룬 법을 제정 및 시행하고 있는 유일한 국가이며, 영국, 독일, 핀란드는 다양한 관련법을 적용하고 있었다. 학교폭력의 개념 정의와 관련하여 영국, 프랑스, 핀란드는 괴롭힘 행위에 국한하고 있는 반면, 독일은 청소년 범죄까지 포함하는 포괄적 개념으로 정의하고 있었다. 영국은 학교폭력 문제를 학생들의 인권 차원에서, 프랑스와 핀란드는 학생들의 복지 차원에서, 독일은 학교폭력을 학생들의 인성 차원에서 보는 경향이 있었다. 대상 국가 모두 새로운 학교폭력 유형인 사이버 폭력, 차별에 기인한 폭력, 교사 대상폭력에 주목하고 있었다. 국가에 따라 학교폭력 정책 수립 및 시행 주체에 차이가 있었으나, 모든 국가들은 총체적 학교 접근, 학생 중심의 교육적 해결을 강조하고 있었다. 또한, 대상 국가들은 모두 상담 중심의 가·피해학생을 위한 지원 및 서비스를 제공하고 있었고, 관련 기관 간 협력을 강조하였다. 모든 국가에서 학교폭력과 관련하여 교직원 교육이 실시되고 있었으나 교직원 교육의 필수 여부, 시행 주체, 교육 유형, 교육내용에 있어서는 차이가 있었다. [결론] 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 핀란드의 사례는 한국의 학교폭력 제도 개선을 위한 정책적 시사점을 제공한다. 본 연구는 연구 결과를 토대로 학교폭력의 법률적 개념에 대한 재고, 교육적 해결 중심 정책으로의 전환, 인성교육을 인권교육으로의 확장 등이 필요하다고 제안하였다. [Purpose] This international comparative study examined the school violence policies of four European countries, which are the U.K., France, Germany, and Finland. [Methods] For the data collection and analysis, a comparative analysis framework was developed and utilized. [Results] The four countries conceptualized school violence differently; the U. K., France, and Finland limited the notion to school bullying while Germany included juvenile crime. All target countries paid increasing attention to new types of school violence, including cyber bullying, violence against teachers, and bullying of LGBTQ students. France was the only country that had launched a separate anti-bullying law. While France had developed the government-initiated policies, the U.K. offered individual schools greater autonomy to prevent and address school violence. The target countries worked towards student-initiated, reconciliation-based, and whole-school approaches. Collaboration among various government agencies and organizations was encouraged. Although they had various support systems for bullied students, counseling was the most common service provided to them. [Conclusion] The results of this study offered important implications for the school violence policies in South Korea. This study discusses the importance of revising the legal definition of school violence, moving towards a reconciliatory non-punitive paradigm, and reforming the national approach to moral and character education.

        고객의 참여행동과 시민행동이 서비스 품질지각과 재구매의도에 미치는 영향

        1. Introduction There is a growing concern about the performance of organization and the ways to increase its productivity (Mills and Morris, 1986). As a way of improving competitiveness of service organization, researchers have been increasingly interested in the customer behavior. Furthermore, recent researches on viewing service customers as partial employees have enabled marketing area to adopt human resource management and organizational behavior principle into service customer study through interdisciplinary approach (Rodie and Kleine, 2000). Relevant service marketing researches have been conducted with two directions. One is customer participation research which applied employee in-role behavior into customer viewpoint (Cermak et al., 1994; Kellogg and Youngdahl. and Bowen, 1997; Ennew and Binks. 1999). the other is customer citizenship behavior research which adopt employee extra-role or organization citizenship behavior (OCB) in view of service customer (Bettencourt, 1997: Groth, 2001: Yoon and Suh, 2003). However, despite conceptual awareness of the role of customer behavior in contributing to service quality perception and repurchasing intention, there has been little empirical research on the antecedents of key customer behaviors. A few investigations examined distinctiveness of customer participation behavior(CPB) and citizenship behavior by suggesting different antecedents of customer behavior empirically. ◀그림삽입▶ 2. Research Hypotheses Nine research hypotheses were dereloped as follows. Hypothesis 1: Self-efficacy is positively related to CPB. Hypothesis 2: Customer socialization is positively related to CPB. Hypothesis 3: Justice perception is positively related to CCB. Hypothesis 4: Customer commitment is positively related to CCB. Hypothesis 5: CPB is positively related to perceived service quality. Hypothesis 6: CCB is positively related to perceived service quality. Hypothesis 7: CPB is positively related to repurchasing intentions. Hypothesis 8: CCB is positively related to repurchasing intentions. Hypothesis 9: Perceived service quality is positively related to repurchasing intention. 3. Results and Discussion Our study provided the evidence of the distinctiveness of customer participation and citizenship behavior, as the prior research (Motowidlo and Van Scotter. 1994; Groth. 2001) did. Especially, CCB appears to have a stronger effect on perceived service quality (parameter estimate: .540 t-value: 2.901) and repurchasing intention (parameter estimate: .485. t-value: 3.071), indicating that CCB plays a key role in affecting service organization performance. This pattern of results implies that service organization should distinguish between CPB and citizenship behavior, and focus more on CCB. In terms of the antecedents of CPB, self-efficacy and customer socialization were significantly related to CPB. Two potential antecedents of CCB were explored in this study: justice perception, and customer commitment. Consistent with the prior research (e.g., Moorman, 1991: Organ, 1990: O`Reilly and Chatman, 1986). affect was related to CCB. Finally, as we hypothesized, the relationship between perceived service quality and repurchasing intention was statistically significant. This study contributes to the marketing literature in several ways. First, the pattern of antecedents and consequences provides robust support for the distinctiveness of customer participation and citizenship behavior. This pattern also suggests service organizations should manage customer behavior differently. Second, our results provide strong theoretical and empirical support for the conceptualization of service customer by adopting human resource study, for example, organization citizenship behavior, organization commitment, organization socialization.         Development of an oligonucleotide microarray for simultaneous detection of two canine MDR1 genotypes and association between genotypes and chemotherapy side effects

        Canine MDR1 gene mutations produce translated P-glycoprotein, an active drug efflux transporter, resulting in dysfunction or over-expression. The 4-base deletion at exon 4 of MDR1 at nucleotide position 230 (nt230[del4]) in exon 4 makes P-glycoprotein lose function, leading to drug accumulation and toxicity. The G allele of the c.-6-180T>G variation in intron 1 of MDR1 (single nucleotide polymorphism [SNP] 180) causes P-glycoprotein over-expression, making epileptic dogs resistant to phenobarbital treatment. Both of these mutations are reported to be common in collies. This study develops a more efficient method to detect these two mutations simultaneously, and clarifies the genotype association with the side effects of chemotherapy. Genotype distribution in Taiwan was also investigated. An oligonucleotide microarray was successfully developed for the detection of both genotypes and was applied to clinical samples. No 4-base deletion mutant allele was detected in dogs in Taiwan. However, the G allele variation of SNP 180 was spread across all dog breeds, not only in collies. The chemotherapy adverse effect percentages of the SNP 180 T/T, T/G, and G/G genotypes were 16.7%, 6.3%, and 0%, respectively. This study describes an efficient way for MDR1 gene mutation detection, clarifying genotype distribution, and the association with chemotherapy.

        Combination of multiplex reverse transcription recombinase polymerase amplification assay and capillary electrophoresis provides high sensitive and high-throughput simultaneous detection of avian influenza virus subtypes

        The pandemic of avian influenza viruses (AIVs) in Asia has caused enormous economic loss in poultry industry and human health threat, especially clade 2.3.4.4 H5 and H7 subtypes in recent years. The endemic chicken H6 virus in Taiwan has also brought about human and dog infections. Since wild waterfowls is the major AIV reservoir, it is important to monitor the diversified subtypes in wildfowl flocks in early stage to prevent viral reassortment and transmission. To develop a more efficient and sensitive approach is a key issue in epidemic control. In this study, we integrate multiplex reverse transcription recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) for high-throughput detection and differentiation of AIVs in wild waterfowls in Taiwan. Four viral genes were detected simultaneously, including nucleoprotein (NP) gene of all AIVs, hemagglutinin (HA) gene of clade 2.3.4.4 H5, H6 and H7 subtypes. The detection limit of the developed detection system could achieve as low as one copy number for each of the four viral gene targets. Sixty wild waterfowl field samples were tested and all of the four gene signals were unambiguously identified within 6 h, including the initial sample processing and the final CE data analysis. The results indicated that multiplex RT-RPA combined with CE was an excellent alternative for instant simultaneous AIV detection and subtype differentiation. The high efficiency and sensitivity of the proposed method could greatly assist in wild bird monitoring and epidemic control of poultry.

        Ribosomal protein S3 is phosphorylated by Cdk1/cdc2 during G2/M phase

        Ribosomal protein S3 (rpS3) is a multifunctional protein involved in translation, DNA repair, and apoptosis. The relationship between rpS3 and cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks) involved in cell cycle regulation is not yet known. Here, we show that rpS3 is phosphorylated by Cdk1 in G2/M phase. Co-immunoprecipitation and GST pull-down assays revealed that Cdk1 interacted with rpS3. An in vitro kinase assay showed that Cdk1 phosphorylated rpS3 protein. Phosphorylation of rpS3 increased in nocodazole-arrested mitotic cells; however, treatment with Cdk1 inhibitor or Cdk1 siRNA significantly attenuated this phosphorylation event. The phosphorylation of a mutant form of rpS3, T221A, was significantly reduced compared with wild-type rpS3. Decreased phosphorylation and nuclear accumulation of T221A was much more pronounced in G2/M phase. These results suggest that the phosphorylation of rpS3 by Cdk1 occurs at Thr221 during G2/M phase and, moreover, that this event is important for nuclear accumulation of rpS3.
