Utilizing bee foraging behavior in mutational salp swarm for feature selection: a study on return-intentions of overseas Chinese after COVID-19

        Xing Jie,Zhao Qinqin,Chen Huiling,Zhang Yili,Zhou Feng,Zhao Hanli 한국CDE학회 2023 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.10 No.6

We present a bee foraging behavior-driven mutational salp swarm algorithm (BMSSA) based on an improved bee foraging strategy and an unscented mutation strategy. The improved bee foraging strategy is leveraged in the follower location update phase to break the fixed range search of salp swarm algorithm, while the unscented mutation strategy on the optimal solution is employed to enhance the quality of the optimal solution. Extensive experimental results on public CEC 2014 benchmark functions validate that the proposed BMSSA performs better than nine well-known metaheuristic methods and seven state-of-the-art algorithms. The binary BMSSA (bBMSSA) algorithm is further proposed for feature selection by using BMSSA as the selection strategy and support vector machine as the classifier. Experimental comparisons on 12 UCI datasets demonstrate the superiority of bBMSSA. Finally, we collected a dataset on the return-intentions of overseas Chinese after coronavirus disease (COVID-19) through an anonymous online questionnaire and performed a case study by setting up a bBMSSA-based feature selection optimization model. The outcomes manifest that the bBMSSA-based feature selection model exhibits a conspicuous prowess, attaining an accuracy exceeding 93%. The case study shows that the development prospects, the family and job in the place of residence, seeking opportunities in China, and the possible time to return to China are the critical factors influencing the willingness to return to China after COVID-19.

        Zhou, Hang,Li, Xiong,Zhang, Yuan,Jia, Yao,Hu, Ting,Yang, Ru,Huang, Ke-Cheng,Chen, Zhi-Lan,Wang, Shao-Shuai,Tang, Fang-Xu,Zhou, Jin,Chen, Yi-Le,Wu, Li,Han, Xiao-Bing,Lin, Zhong-Qiu,Lu, Xiao-Mei,Xing, H Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.9

Background: This study aimed to establish a nomogram by combining clinicopathologic factors with overall survival of stage IA-IIB cervical cancer patients after complete resection with pelvic lymphadenectomy. Materials and Methods: This nomogram was based on a retrospective study on 1,563 stage IA-IIB cervical cancer patients who underwent complete resection and lymphadenectomy from 2002 to 2008. The nomogram was constructed based on multivariate analysis using Cox proportional hazard regression. The accuracy and discriminative ability of the nomogram were measured by concordance index (C-index) and calibration curve. Results: Multivariate analysis identified lymph node metastasis (LNM), lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI), stromal invasion, parametrial invasion, tumor diameter and histology as independent prognostic factors associated with cervical cancer survival. These factors were selected for construction of the nomogram. The C-index of the nomogram was 0.71 (95% CI, 0.65 to 0.77), and calibration of the nomogram showed good agreement between the 5-year predicted survival and the actual observation. Conclusions: We developed a nomogram predicting 5-year overall survival of surgically treated stage IA-IIB cervical cancer patients. More comprehensive information that is provided by this nomogram could provide further insight into personalized therapy selection.

Effects of Intravesical Electrical Stimulation on Urinary Adenosine Triphosphate and Nitric Oxide in Rats With Detrusor Underactivity Induced By Bilateral Pelvic Nerve Crush Injury: The Possible Underlying Mechanism

        Han Deng,Limin Liao,Xing Li,Qinggang Liu,Xuesheng Wang,Zhonghan Zhou 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2022 International Neurourology Journal Vol.26 No.4

Purpose: To explore the effect of intravesical electrical stimulation (IVES) on urinary adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and nitric oxide (NO) in rats with detrusor underactivity (DU) induced by bilateral pelvic nerve crush (bPNC), and to determine the underlying peripheral mechanism. Methods: Twenty-four female Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into 3 groups: sham; bPNC; and IVES. Rats in the IVES group began to receive IVES treatment 10 days after bPNC (20 minutes per day for 14 consecutive days). After the 14th IVES, rat urine was collected and cystometry was performed. The serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and urinary ATP and NO levels were measured, and a routine urinalysis was performed. Results: The maximum cystometric capacity (MCC), maximum changes in bladder pressure during filling (∆FP), and postvoid residual urine (PVR) in the IVES group were significantly lower than the bPNC group, and the maximum changes in bladder pressure during voiding (∆VP) was significantly higher than the bPNC group. Compared with the sham group, the MCC, ∆FP and PVR were significantly increased, and the maximum voiding pressure (MVP) and ∆VP were significantly decreased in the bPNC group. After bPNC, urinary ATP was significantly decreased, and urinary NO was significantly increased. In IVES-treated rats, urinary ATP was significantly higher than the bPNC group, and NO was significantly lower than the bPNC group. In addition, the ATP-to-NO ratio of the rats in the bPNC group was significantly lower than the sham and IVES groups. Correlation analysis showed that the ATP and NO were not correlated with the MCC, ∆FP, MVP, ∆VP, and PVR. Conclusions: Promoting the release of urothelial ATP and inhibiting the release of urothelial NO may be one of the peripheral mechanisms underlying IVES in the treatment of DU. Specifically, IVES may shift the balance between excitation and inhibition toward excitation

Methylation Status of Transcriptional Modulatory Genes Associated with Colorectal Cancer in Northeast China

2018 Gut and Liver Vol.12 No.2

Background/Aims: Methylation status plays a causal role in carcinogenesis in targeted tissues. However, the relationship between the DNA methylation status of multiple genes in blood leukocytes and colorectal cancer (CRC) susceptibility as well as interactions between dietary factors and CRC risks are unclear. Methods: We performed a case-control study with 466 CRC patients and 507 cancer-free controls to investigate the association among the methylation status of individual genes, multiple CpG site methylation (MCSM), multiple CpG site heterogeneous methylation and CRC susceptibility. Peripheral blood DNA methylation levels were detected by performing methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting. Results: Total heterogeneous methylation of CA10 and WT1 conferred a significantly higher risk of CRC (adjusted odds ratio [ORadjusted], 5.445; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.075 to 9.643; ORadjusted, 1.831; 95% CI, 1.100 to 3.047; respectively). Subjects with high-level MCSM (MCSM-H) status demonstrated a higher risk of CRC (ORadjusted, 4.318; 95% CI, 1.529 to 12.197). Additionally, interactions between the high-level intake of fruit and CRH, WT1, and MCSM on CRC were statistically significant. Conclusions: The gene methylation status of blood leukocytes may be associated with CRC risk. MCSM-H of blood leukocytes was associated with CRC, especially in younger people. Some dietary factors may affect hypermethylation status and influence susceptibility to CRC.

Genome-wide association analysis for yield-related traits at the R6 stage in a Chinese soybean mini core collection

        Li Xiangnan,Zhou Yang,Bu Yuanpeng,Wang Xinfang,Zhang Yumei,Guo Na,Zhao Jinming,Xing Han 한국유전학회 2021 Genes & Genomics Vol.43 No.8

Background Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is an economically important crop for vegetable oil and protein production, and yield is a critical trait for grain/vegetable uses of soybean. However, our knowledge of the genes controlling the vegetable soybean yield remains limited. Objective To better understand the genetic basis of the vegetable soybean yield. Methods The 100-pod fresh weight (PFW), 100-seed fresh weight (SFW), kernel percent (KP) and moisture content of fresh seeds (MCFS) at the R6 stage are four yield-related traits for vegetable soybean. We investigated a soybean mini core collection composed of 224 germplasm accessions for four yield-related traits in two consecutive years. Based on 1514 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), genome-wide association studies (GWAS) were conducted using a mixed linear model (MLM). Results Extensive phenotypic variation existed in the soybean mini core collection and signifcant positive correlations were shown among most of traits. A total of 16 SNP markers for PFW, SFW, KP and MCFS were detected in all environments via GWAS. Nine SNP markers were repeatedly identifed in two environments. Among these markers, eight were located in or near regions where yield-related QTLs have been reported in previous studies, and one was a novel genetic locus identifed in this study. In addition, we conducted candidate gene analysis to the large-efect SNP markers, a total of twelve genes were proposed as potential candidate genes of soybean yield at the R6 stage. Conclusion These results will be benefcial for understanding the genetic basis of soybean yield at the R6 stage and facilitating the pyramiding of favourable alleles for future high-yield breeding by marker-assisted selection in vegetable soybean.

Overexpression of Chalcone Isomerase (CHI) Increases Resistance Against Phytophthora sojae in Soybean

        Jin-ming Zhao;Han Xing,Yang Zhou; Jian-li Huang; Xiao-li Zhang; Long-ming Zhu; Xin-fang Wang 한국식물학회 2018 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.61 No.5

Chalcone isomerase (CHI) is a key enzyme ofthe flavonoid pathway that plays crucial roles in plant responsesto various pathogens. Our previous study using comparativetranscriptome analysis of soybean inoculated with or withoutPhytophthora sojae revealed Glyma.20G241500, a homologof CHI1A in Arabidopsis thaliana, to be induced by P.sojaein soybean. In the present study, we isolated the gene fromsoybean cultivar Nannong 10-1, designating it GmCHI1A. GmCHI1A transcripts were detected in soybean roots, stemsand leaves, with the highest levels in roots. Interestingly,GmCHI1A localizes to the cortical endoplasmic reticulum(ER). GmCHI1A was overexpressed in hairy roots to furtheruncover the roles of CHIs in soybean. Compared to emptyvector-expressing hairy roots (EV) infected with P. sojae, hairy roots overexpressing GmCHI1A (OE) exhibited decreasedP. sojae biomass accumulation, shortened the lesion lengthsand reduced zoospores germination. These results demonstratethat GmCHI1A plays positive roles in the response ofsoybean to P. sojae.

Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis with a Continuous Infusion of Low-Dose Urokinase for Non-Acute Deep Venous Thrombosis of the Lower Extremity

        Binbin Gao,Jingyong Zhang,Xuejun Wu,Zonglin Han,Hua Zhou,Dianning Dong,Xing Jin 대한영상의학회 2011 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.12 No.1

Objective: We wanted to evaluate the feasibility of catheter-directed thrombolysis with a continuous infusion of low-dose urokinase for treating non-acute (less than 14 days) deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremity. Materials and Methods: The clinical data of 110 patients who were treated by catheter-directed thrombolysis with a continuous infusion of low-dose urokinase for lower extremity deep venous thrombosis was analysed. Adjunctive angioplasty or/and stenting was performed for the residual stenosis. Venous recanalization was graded by pre- and posttreatment venography. Follow-up was performed by clinical evaluation and Doppler ultrasound. Results: A total of 112 limbs with deep venous thrombosis with a mean symptom duration of 22.7 days (range: 15-38 days) were treated with a urokinase infusion (mean: 3.5 million IU) for a mean of 196 hours. After thrombolysis, stent placement was performed in 25 iliac vein lesions and percutaneous angioplasty (PTA) alone was done in fi ve iliac veins. Clinically signifi cant recanalization was achieved in 81% (90 of 112) of the treated limbs; complete recanalization was achieved in 28% (31 of 112) and partial recanalization was achieved in 53% (59 of 112). Minor bleeding occurred in 14 (13%) patients, but none of the patients suffered from major bleeding or symptomatic pulmonary embolism. During followup (mean: 15.2 months, range: 3-24 months), the veins were patent in 74 (67%) limbs. Thirty seven limbs (32%) showed progression of the stenosis with luminal narrowing more than 50%, including three with rethrombosis, while one revealed an asymptomatic iliac vein occlusion; 25 limbs (22%) developed mild post-thrombotic syndrome, and none had severe post-thrombotic syndrome. Valvular refl ux occurred in 24 (21%) limbs. Conclusion: Catheter-directed thrombolysis with a continuous infusion of low-dose urokinase combined with adjunctive iliac vein stenting is safe and effective for removal of the clot burden and for restoration of the venous fl ow in patients with non-acute lower extremity deep venous thrombosis.
