A continuous and non-decreasing function ψ and another continuous function φ with φ(z) = 0 <=⇒ z = 0 defined on C + = {x + yi : x, y ≥ 0} are introduced, the ψ-φ-contractive or expansive type conditions are considered, and the existence theorems of common fixed points for two mappings defined on a complex valued metric space are obtained. Also, Banach contraction principle and a fixed point theorem for a I-expansive type mapping are given on complex valued metric spaces.
On a ring property related to nilradicals

In this article we investigate the structure of rings in which lower nilradicals coincide with upper nilradicals. Such rings shall be said to be quasi-2-primal. It is shown first that the K$\ddot{\text{o}}$the's conjecture holds for quasi-2-primal rings. So the results in this article may provide interesting and useful information to the study of nilradicals in various situations. In the procedure we study the structure of quasi-2-primal rings, and observe various kinds of quasi-2-primal rings which do roles in ring theory.

High Performance Current Sensing Circuit for Current-Mode DC-DC Buck Converter

A simulation study of a current-mode direct current (DC)-DC buck converter is presented in this paper. The converter, with a fully integrated power module, is implemented by using sense method metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) and bipolar complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (BiCMOS) technology. When the MOSFET is used in a current sensor, the sensed inductor current with an internal ramp signal can be used for feedback control. In addition, the BiCMOS technology is applied in the converter for an accurate current sensing and a low power consumption. The DC-DC converter is designed using the standard 0.35 μm CMOS process. An off-chip LC filter is designed with an inductance of 1 mH and a capacitance of 12.5 nF. The simulation results show that the error between the sensing signal and the inductor current can be controlled to be within 3%. The characteristics of the error amplification and output ripple are much improved, as compared to converters using conventional CMOS circuits.

Synergistic Effects of Leflunomide and Benazepril in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Nephropathy

<P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Background:</I></B> Leflunomide (LEF) and benazepril have renoprotective effects on diabetic nephropathy (DN) through their anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic activities. This study investigated whether combined treatment using LEF and benazepril affords superior protection compared with the respective monotherapies. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> Diabetes was induced with streptozotocin (STZ, 65 mg/kg) by intraperitoneal injection in male Wistar rats. Two weeks after STZ injection, diabetic rats were treated daily for 12 weeks with LEF (10 mg/kg), benazepril (10 mg/kg), or a combination of both. Basic parameters (body weight, fasting blood glucose level, and 24 h urinary protein excretion), histopathology, inflammatory [inflammatory cell infiltration (ED-1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and Toll-like receptor-2 (TLR-2)] and glomerulosclerotic factors [transforming growth factor-β<SUB>1</SUB> (TGF-β<SUB>1</SUB>) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF)], and oxidative stress (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine, 8-OHdG) were studied. <B><I>Results:</I></B> Benazepril or LEF treatment significantly prevented body weight loss and 24 h urinary protein excretion induced by diabetes; combined treatment with LEF and benazepril further improved these parameters compared with giving each drug alone (all p < 0.01). Increased expression of inflammatory (MCP-1 and TLR-2) and glomerulosclerotic (TGF-β<SUB>1</SUB> and CTGF) factors in diabetic rat kidney was reduced by treatment with either LEF or benazepril and was further reduced by the combined administration of the two drugs (p < 0.01). These effects were accompanied by suppression of urinary 8-OHdG excretion. There was no significant between-group difference in blood glucose level. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> LEF treatment lessens DN, and combined treatment with LEF and benazepril provides synergistic effects in preventing DN.</P><P>© 2014 S. Reversible and pseudo-reversible rings

This article concerns the structure of idempotents in reversi\-ble and pseudo-reversible rings in relation with various sorts of ring extensions. It is known that a ring $R$ is reversible if and only if $ab\in I(R)$ for $a, b\in R$ implies $ab=ba$; and a ring $R$ shall be said to be {\it pseudo-reversible} if $0\neq ab\in I(R)$ for $a, b\in R$ implies $ab=ba$, where $I(R)$ is the set of all idempotents in $R$. Pseudo-reversible is seated between reversible and quasi-reversible. It is proved that the reversibility, pseudo-reversibility, and quasi-reversibility are equivalent in Dorroh extensions and direct products. Dorroh extensions are also used to construct several sorts of rings which are necessary in the process.
Synthesis of Sc and V-doped TiO2 nanoparticles and photodegradation of rhodamine-B

Anatase TiO2 nanoparticles doped with Sc and V were synthesized and their photocatalytic activities were evaluated through the photodegradation of rhodamine-B under UV irradiation. TiO2 shows the highest photocatalytic activity and Sc doped TiO2 and V doped TiO2 show lower photocatalytic activity than TiO2. In contrast, Sc and V codoped TiO2 shows no any photocatalytic activity. The reasons for the decrease in photocatalytic activity is due to the presence of surficial Sc2O3 islands covering the reactive sites for Sc doped TiO2 and the increased e-/h+ pair recombination resulted from the high level substitutional V(IV) ions for V doped TiO2, respectively.
