Reinterpretation of the red emission pathway in β-NaYF4:Yb3+, Er3+
Oh, Ju Hyun,Moon, Byung Kee,Choi, Byung Chun,Jeong, Jung Hyun,Choi, Haeyoung,Kim, Jung Hwan Elsevier 2017 CERAMICS INTERNATIONAL Vol.43 No.2
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The β-NaYF4:Yb3+, Er3+ phosphor is well known as one of the high-efficiency upconversion (UC) phosphors. Of the three main emission bands (blue, green and red), the red emission belongs to the “optical window” that can penetrate the biological tissues. For this reason, this phosphor has been received much attention as a luminescent probe for biomedical imaging. This study interpreted the red emission mechanism by energy back transfer (EBT) process by analyzing both the photoluminescence and upconversion photoluminescence properties. Herein, the another pathway of red emission in β-NaYF4:Yb3+, Er3+ phosphor was demonstrated, which belongs to two EBT processes such as 4S3/2→4I13/2 (Er3+):2F7/2→2F5/2 (Yb3+) and 4G11/2→4F9/2 (Er3+):2F7/2→2F5/2 (Yb3+). Since two EBT routes play a key role for generating the red emission, the currently accepted UC mechanism for this phosphor should be modified accordingly.</P>
Nonlinear Absortption processes in Triphenyamine-dithienothiophene-Triphyenylamine
Haeyoung Choi,Myoungsik Cha,han-Young Woo,Jong-Hyup Lee,kwanghee Lee,Kwang-sup Lee,Oh-Kil Kim 한국물리학회 2004 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.45 No.1
We investigated the nonlinear absorption mechanism in the triphenylamine-dithienothiophenetriphenylamine molecule by using laser pulses with two different pulse widths, 7 ns and 35 ps. The single-beam transmission measurement with a 7-ns pulse resulted in a larger nonlinear absorption than that with a 35-ps pulse and saturated at high input intensities due to the excited state absorption (ESA) initiated by two-photon absorption (TPA). For a quantitative characterization of the TPA and ESA contributions to the nonlinear absorption, we estimated the ESA spectrum and lifetime by using a pump-probe transmission measurement with a 35-ps pulse. A 5-level model was used to explain both the nonlinear absorption and the one-photon and the two-photon pumped fluorescence.

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P><I>Bifidobacterium animalis</I> subsp. <I>lactis</I> is a probiotic bacterium that naturally inhabits the guts of most mammals, including humans. Here we report the complete genome sequence of <I>B. animalis</I> subsp. <I>lactis</I> AD011 that was isolated from an infant fecal sample. Biological functions encoded in a single circular chromosome of 1,933,695 bp, smallest among the completely sequenced bifidobacterial genomes, are suggestive of their probiotic functions, such as utilization of bifidogenic factors and a variety of glycosidic enzymes and biosynthesis of polysaccharides.</P>

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P><I>Paenibacillus polymyxa</I> E681, a spore-forming, low-G+C, Gram-positive bacterium isolated from the rhizosphere of winter barley grown in South Korea, has great potential for agricultural applications due to its ability to promote plant growth and suppress plant diseases. Here we present the complete genome sequence of <I>P. polymyxa</I> E681. Its 5.4-Mb genome encodes functions specialized to the plant-associated lifestyle and characteristics that are beneficial to plants, such as the production of a plant growth hormone, antibiotics, and hydrolytic enzymes.</P>

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P><I>Streptomyces clavuligerus</I> is an important industrial strain that produces a number of antibiotics, including clavulanic acid and cephamycin C. A high-quality draft genome sequence of the <I>S. clavuligerus</I> NRRL 3585 strain was produced by employing a hybrid approach that involved Sanger sequencing, Roche/454 pyrosequencing, optical mapping, and partial finishing. Its genome, comprising four linear replicons, one chromosome, and four plasmids, carries numerous sets of genes involved in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, including a variety of antibiotics.</P>
